I can share this now
"hello from texas! well, i have a few days home alone at the ranch and it feels good! ty is at a bull riding in north carolina, and i am enjoying the stillness of being home alone. it is so pretty here. so different from alaska, but beautiful in a more restrained kind of way. alaska has the kind of extreme beauty that makes you want to bust at the seams. the mountains and glaciers and rivers and great depth of field seems to defy gravity. it is a strange almost volatile beauty that defies you in some way, daring you to look and look more. it is a kind of beauty that takes strength to endure. the extreme hours of daylight. the extreme daylight. the harsh winters and cold summers- all to reap the reward of that stunning scenery..... here in texas the fields are luscious and green and the pecan groves give shade to deer and armadillo. the river bottoms are guarded on all sides by sentinel oak trees and the hills give the eyes a sense of soothing relief as they break up the static horizon with gentle slopes that climb and bend, but not too much. ty built a cedar bunk house for the cowboys to stay in during branding season, with a great porch that overlooks all 2,000 acres. this is where i sit to write when i am alone. it is where i sit now with my lap top as i write to you all. so, fall is upon us and come november i will start to tour a little more. i have been touring with my band, which has been fun. i start the show acoustic and bring the band out after about 40 minutes, i love having a band. it makes the road less lonely, as we get to travel and laugh the miles away. and on stage i enjoy having a band because it helps me illustrate the versatility of my writing to be able to go from a solo song like "1000 miles away", to a band song like "love me just leave me alone". it makes me proud to hear all the songs and the genres they cover, from country to rock to folk. but come november i will be strictly solo, and this is fun for different reasons. i like to have no set list or rules to follow. i like to feel the audience and let you guys request songs and visit with you. it keeps me from getting bored. oh, i’m gonna shoot a low-fi, low budget super 8 video of the song “stephenville, tx”. i’m directing it along with kurt markus and 3 guys who have a company called the nova project. it will be pretty simple, but i like that song, and figured i’d release the video on the internet, and who knows, maybe cmt will pick it up and maybe even some renegade country stations... well, i guess that’s all for now....hope everyone is well, and i will see you on the road! jewel " |

Very cool! Hmmm... A Stephenville low-fi release, huh? Not to sound pessimist, but I doubt country stations would play this song because of the lyrics IMO. Jewel's first try at country radio is a song telling her story? If Jewel were a staple at the format, I'd probably say radio would eat it up, but as a 1st single I think radio will not relate much to it. But anyway, it seems it's just a step into this direction more than a true 1st country single.
Anyway, this all makes me think we'll see no more big releases after Good Day. Only One Too will probably just be a club release really. Well, let's see what comes along... It would be truly great if Stephenville caught on! |

What lyrics specifically do you think won't work on country radio??? I think the song might do well at country, being a country fan myself for many years. A nice video filmed on the ranch would make a nice introduction for her into the country realm too. This is one of my favorite songs on GAIW!!

It's just because I think it's weird to release a 1st single ever to a radio format that says "I'm 31 years old, that ain't the end but sure ain't where I began". But well, who knows, it could become a big hit!

you know CMT used to play 'Down So Long' so technically this wouldnt be the first country pick-up song from Jewel.
I think it's awesome how she makes her own super 8 music videos, I wish she would hire me to film and direct some, I of coarse would do it for free, well.... no, for a song. ![]() I do think fabiojj has a point about some of the lyrics in Stephenville being kind of ackward for her to step into the country spot-light... I actually think country fans would like Good Day maybe if the video was a little more country-styled and they actually played it on country radio and CMT... country fans I think like high-high's and low-low's for some reason... ...but then again so do I. -not saying I'm not a country fan b/c I am, I'm just not hardcore country.

I think it is a brilliant Idea. I don't think Good Day would of fit in with country radio. Then again it could of so you never really know.
Let's hope Country radio plays it.

Jewel sounds happy LOL
That's cool. And i got shocked when i read that "STEPHENVILLE " thing... i've never though that would be released as a single or a low -fi video. !!!! I think the song is very very personal... but that's cool anyway, i like the song. I think that is a step for a "country level"

Stephenville is one of my favorite songs but it will not go country. Besides Jewel, I am a country fan and the country fans will not embrass Jewel. She tried doing a duet with Merle Haggard back in 1999 or 2000 and even sang with Merle on the most important country award show for the year and it went no where. I feel Merle pulled Jewel into the duet to try and jump start his career again but it just didn't work. If she could have gotten one of the big country male stars like Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw or countless others she may have had a slim chance but Stephenville will not get her there. I know a lot of you won't agree and I HOPE I AM WRONG, and I will be more than willing to eat crow if it takes off on the radio but I don't see it happening. Why is she trying to go country, because she has fallen out of grace with the pop fans, so what. She has always claimed she doesn't care about record sales she just wants to con't to record what she wants and if it doesn't sale no big deal. Evidently it does matter to her more than she admits other wise she wouldn't be going country. Now lets hope a month from now everyone can say I am wrong about this country stuff, I would love to be wrong.
