Default Acai Berries

The latest health craze is Acai berries. You can get them in your ice cream (I think Dryers), juice (Knudsen), smoothies (Jamba Juice), and even a pyramid scheme selling the stuff (Mona Vie).

Have you guys tried it? it's supposed to have the highest concentration of anti-oxidants, surpassing agave, blueberries and even chocolate (what???). I had it recently... it seems that because Acai itself doesn't taste good, the drinks are generally mixed with better tasting juices.

It's quickly becoming Brazil's great export. It won't be long before noni (from Tahiti) makes its big splash....

I worked at Jamba Juice for 2 years...and let me say, I'm glad I didn't have to pay for my acai smoothie. You either hate it or love it...and I hate it. Blech!

Has anyone here heard of Goji berries?? A couple years ago they were supposedly the hottest trend in natural foods too, because they are apparrently high in antioxidants. I've tasted them before, and they tasted like dirt. I didn't find them very appetizing.

Think of them as some kind of 'laxative' effect!

..and why is it that all this so called 'trend' food always tastes like chud!!!??? like that skanky tasting pomegranate!

Hmmmm,... you're onto something..... Acai wine. A little bottle designing (think: Voss bottles), a catchy logo, and it just might work.

Never had acai berries and don't think you can get them here. At least, not widely available.

As for pomegranates - YUM!!!

Just have to promote the 'cloudberries' .. after a little research I found this statement ...

"Carotenoids in the berries are provitamin A compounds which serve as antioxidants. The cloudberry contains the highest quantities of vitamin A compared to other berries."

Cloudberries are so yummie!! Not easily available for everyone I can imagine, but luckily for me they grow in my backyard .. and besides making them into jam or using them as icecream topping .. they can be turned in to a very very very tasteful liqueur.

Dear Goddess

here you find some data on the goji Goji berries worth reading.
Lately I started to snack some in our health food store in Konstanz (Germany, at the lake of Bodensee). My wife Katrin introduced them to me.
the stuff from Himalaya is very interesting like the apricots from the Hunza people. they have an amazing record of health when they were examined in the fifties. There was no cancer or tooth decay or loss of eyesight in old age and many more. but they opened the borders to the western lifestyle and now the idylle is gone ... history.

with love from Switzerland
Casymyr

http://altmedicine.about.com/od/comp...dex/a/goji.htm

short incomplete excerpt:

Why do people use goji berries?
Goji berries have been used for 6,000 years by herbalists in China, Tibet and India to:

* protect the liver
* help eyesight
* improve sexual function and fertility
* strengthen the legs
* boost immune function
* improve circulation
* promote longevity

Goji berries are rich in antioxidants, particularly carotenoids such as beta-carotene and zeaxanthin. One of zeaxanthin's key roles is to protect the retina of the eye by absorbing blue light and acting as an antioxidant. In fact, increased intake of foods containing zeathanthin may decrease the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of vision loss and blindness in people over the age of 65.

I've read from other sources about the various berries and what they do. So the basic message is that berries in general are good for you.

It also seems that each region in this world has its own special berries, and that it is only now with global capitalisim that these berries are making themselves known.

The next logical step would then be to combine all these berries (and pomegranate, for good measure) and create the super anti-oxidant drink. There are many cancer survivors (my wife being one) and health conscious people, so I'm sure something like this would sell berry well.
