Default Only a sore hand

My brother just scratched my limited edition Out Of Print record of Pieces of You, right on 'You Were Meant For Me. He's older than I am, but doesn't know how to work a record player. For those of you who remember records, their is a tiny bar near the motor you can use to lift the needle as not to scratch the record. This is what I use to lift the needle for just that reason, not to scratch the record.

Pieces of You only had a few records made to it, I'm not sure of an exact number, but FEW! I got mine off ebay from a chap who got it for a gift and tried to sell it in a yard sale, but couldn't and put it on Ebay after finding out how valuable it was! It was still in its original cellopahne when I got it, and was the first to open the record and take it out of it's paper case.

Well, my dumbass brother elected to push the needle down hard on the record, as it was in the 'up' position, where the needle was not touching but the record was spinning. He pressed down the needle with his thumb and I heard it scratch out loud, 'screach'!

I got out of my chair and chastized him "Whoa! Get off the record player! Get the off the f'in record player! What are you doin?!"

He said, dumbly, "Nothing, I figured I'd play your record and don't know how."

Well, I screamed back, "Maybe you should have asked me and I'd have shown you!?"

He left the room and I played the record back and it skips in place "I'm half alive but I feel....I'm half alilve but I feel....I'm half alive but I feel...." You get the picture.

I was SO angry I lifted the needle calmly and punched as hard as I could in my wall, thinking I'd punch a whole right through and feel better sheetrocking the putty thing tomorrow morning. Well, I kind of missed. Missed meaning I think I hit a stud, and my hand hurts like, well, you know.

Right now, as I write this, it is throbbing so bad and I can't keep it still. It's not broken, but not feeling good.

I'm being diligent with writing this, but I need to know, this is a limited edition of her album, Pieces of You, because it is out of print and I got lucky, I lucked out, and got one still in its cellophane.

I need to know if I can get eithehr a replacement second vinyl disc for this or another spare. Anyone here selling? I'll pay top dollar, I mean TOP DOLLAR! If not, is thheir a place I can send this puppy to have thhe scratch buffed out?

Any guys or gals on here know about this stuff.

Please advise.

P.S.: And I don't want to even hhear from any one of you all saying "It's your brother, it is a mistake, forgive him. Had it been a regular in print record, i could, but not this record, THIS RECORD!

oooooo, if someone scratched one of my records I would want to, to, to...scratch their eyes out!! and if it were a limited edition...well, they'd be lucky if I stopped at their eyes-grrr!

ok, well, more likely I would just think about it, I'm really a big sissy and have never been in a real fight in my life.

Whoa sorry to hear that. I know how that feels since I've had some rare CDs of mine get beaten up. I'd say keep your eyes peeled on ebay. Sorry but that's the only info I can offer.

so far in our dealings with EBay we have had only positive results, and if you should happen to have problems you can get your money back...but like anything else, just be cautious

Jones, try those sites I gave you earlier on eil.com and/or gemm.com. There should be some there, hopefully anyway.

ebay

I don't quite get opening it shrink-wrapped if you want it to remain a collector's item.

Because that's like buying a signed Jewel guitar that is brand new and just some guy had her sign it at some meet/greet or concert. Why not play it? That's its purpose, records are meant to be played, besides, I love the sound of a record.

It's a good point you bring up, but that's like getting a lottery winnings check after you win and do all the paperwork. It may be 10 Million dollars, you would never see that check again if you cahsed it, but wouldn't you cash it?

Just a thought,

Jonesy
