The following was posted on the jewel unedited on 3/16/2005:

It has just been announced that Jewel will perform for the Candies Foundation "Event to Prevent" in New York City on Tuesday, May 3rd. The event will include dinner, an auction and special live performances. For tickets email lcole@candiesinc.com .

The mission of the Candies Foundation is "to educate America's youth about the devastating consequences of teen pregnancy." The foundation sponsors Public Service Announcements that feature celebrities speaking out about teen pregnancy in the US. You can view these PSA's and learn more about the Candies Foundation at www.candiesfoundation.org.

Um.... if they're stupid enough to have sex without protection and wonder what's instore for them they probably deserve "devastating consequences." :mooner:

Anyhoo, that's just how I feel, but it's good Jewel's doing more with the public now. I'm actually kinda bummed that I have to wait till the end of the year for the new CD, it's not fair, i've been sort of patient.

Apparently Destiny's Child will be at this event also. You can watch short promotions here: Click "more" under the "PSA Campaigns" box (http://www.candiesfoundation.org/index.html)

Hey, I'm glad she's planning to make public appearances at all. It's a sign that there will likely be some touring this year. Her booking agent is probably busy trying to book other shows as we speak. Seeing these announcements is a sign things are starting to move in Jewel's career after some time off.

I don't mean to change the subject, but you can get pregnant with protection. My brother and his now wife did over a year ago, and now they have the cutest little 7 month old baby. :) He really is a doll and I could NEVER think of him as a "mistake". Sure, the two of them do have their problems, but everyone helps out as much as they can. We may be an exception to the rule, though.

As for the topic, I think it's great that she's doing a couple of public performances. I can't wait for the new album! :D

it's simple, if you are financially prepared to have a child then by all means have 8 before you're 20. But regardless of gender if you are strapped for cash a kid is generally not the best way to go, I understand in the cases of rape but how can you prepare teenagers for that? And also this whole raising awareness thing, I think TEENAGERS are very well aware of what pregnancy means.

And just so you don't think I don't know what I'm talking about, my sisters bestfriend got pregnant when she was 15, the baby was born 4 months early and she had no health insurance. She got completely wiped out and lost custody of the baby because she didn't have any money.
