View Full Version : How my cat made me love Jewel

Its very weird... very very weird.

I really never heard any of Jewels music. I did hear Hands at the time. I
always said my cat, Puddin's favorite singer was Jewel, and she loved the song hands. As a joke, I checked a CD out from the Library so Pud could hear Hands, not knowing I was checking out This Way.

I played it for her and I was like "Hey! This is great!". This was before I even liked music, so my cat made me love music xD

How did you get into liking Jewel?

The song "You Were Meant For Me".........dreams last so long, even after you're gone... I liked that line.

I loved her entire first album, it was so refreshing during the age of Grunge to hear such acoustic, heartfelt music. I could sit in a coffeehouse all day and just listen away. I loved that she wrote her own songs and amazed at how she could come up with so MANY great songs!! I was also intrigued by her personal story of her rise to fame. I'm a sucker for rags to riches stories....maybe I hope it will happen to me someday?!?!

What really sealed the deal for me and made me a DIE-HARD JEWEL FAN is one line: "If I could tell the world one thing it would be, that we're all OK". Hands made me forever hooked!!

Well I've always liked the singles Jewel put out but I was young when she started... I mean 1995? I was 12 ha ha. I remember liking Hands a lot and then when Standing Still came out I loved it but honestly I was like this big pirate so it was one of those songs I just DLed and put it on a mixed cd with I'm sure some other music I would be ambarrassed to list here haha I can't even remember what came out at that time... that song "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback I remember but I still love that song even though I don't really like Nickelback too much...
Anyways back to Jewel, I didn't really listen to her in between there and GAIW, I heard Intuition and thought she was a sell-out... when I heard Again & Again I downloaded it on iTunes and loved it so I started getting all her cd's (starting w/ Spirit) from my "bargain box" (except GAIW I got the Target cd/dvd) :) and I was like WTF was I thinking she is awesome!!!?? So I guess I am fairly a new fan though I have followed her singles throughout the years kind of.
Honestly though before now I don't think my mind was developed enough to really "get" her music.

Sitdogboy.........no, sorry, it wasn't my cat that made me love Jewel. HOWEVER, I LOVE CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have 2 kitties, they are my babies. I like to call them my "fur-children". But I don't dress them up or give them human names like some people do. I grew up on a farm and we had TONS of cats, and I miss that. Now I live in the city. But I still get to go visit my parents quite a bit, so I get to see all the cats. Yes, I'm a cat person at heart! (I think it's ironic that your name is SitDogBoy!!):p

I just have the one Kitty! His name is Baz and he'll be 11 in a couple of months.

He doesn't mix well with other cats, otherwise we'd have another one. We'll let him have his 'retirement' and then get 2 cats when he's gone. I've had him since he was just 8 weeks old. I love kittens!!

I came across jewel one day on the internet back when it was all dailup and you paid by the hour. I found who will save your soul and was hooked but didnt know who sang it so i searched and searched and searched... i finally found out it was jewel who sang it and i was hooked and been a fan ever since... i'm 22 know and started listening when i was 12... But i will admit that i did lose track a little bit and did not know THIS WAY came out i found out when my girlfriend (now my fiance) bought me the cd cause i always talked about how great Jewel's music was and how i was the only kid in high school with a system that was listening to Jewel... lol... so know i still love Jewel, listen to her music and play it on a much better custom system in my car that my neighbors dont mind since its Jewel they can hear coming down the road and not rap lol

My parents have about 25-30 cats right now  (outside cats of course, only 1 VERY LUCKY kitty is a housecat), and 12 of those are little kittens!!!!!!!! They are known as the "Cat Ranch" of the town I'm from. The little town doesn't have a humane society, and only 1 vet's office so all the strays are brought to our place for a nice home in the barn. They get fed all kinds of good food and have a warm place to sleep. What's amazing is that they all have names, are lapcats, and purr at the sight of you. I'm ready for a trip "home" right now!!!:D

Yep, he is still getting bigger and making as much noise as possible at the crack of dawn. He still won't let anyone go near him but he's happy plodding around the garden and munchin his corn flakes.

NO I think 1 chicken is enough. I am really surprised. I just haven't warmed to him at all. I don't dislike him or anything but I certainly won't be upset or miss him if he decides to go for a wander and never come back.

Sounds cruel perhaps but I just am not the type to look after chickens. I would only ever care for its welfare though so until a new home and good home can be found for him, he stays.

My cat's names are Miko & Siko. Miko is all black with just a couple of white hairs on her chest with bright yellow eyes. She had a litter of kittens before we adopted her. Her babies were all adopted, but no one wanted the mama cat. She was very playful and affectionate and warmed right up to the cat we already had at home, Siko. Siko is a tiger boy with white paws & throat. His front paws are unique in that just the verrrrryyyyy tips of the toes are white, almost like he dipped them in whip cream. He's very affectionate and we're very bonded. My husband is bonded with Miko. So we each get a cat...we don't have to fight over them!! :-)

Kiera, did I read correctly that you had a cat named Baz? I actually did some 'work' with a guy whose call sign was 'Baz', about a year ago.

Never did figure out his name, BTW?

Where did you get 'Baz' from?

Little Bird
03-27-2007, 08:03 AM
It's not that I 'had' a cat, I 'have' a cat named Baz. I gave him about 12 names in a week coz I couldn't decide. In the end, I saw someone on TV with the name Baz and thought it was simple so that's what I called him. Been that for nearly 12 years now.

Needless to say, he isn't a big fan of Jewel, at least, not that he lets on. He does like Enigma though which isn't surprising given the amount of relaxing and snoozing he loves to do.

I love all these stories! what a great topic :) I was introduced to Jewel in 2002 I was driving around with my Aunt and her Girlfriend. They are more like best friends to me. Anywho It was around 3am and they were giving me all these cds they used to listen to. I poped in POY and went to track 13 for some reason it was Angel Standing By. I was seriously in awe. I had never been into music before and i was inlove lol. Then i kept playing the rest od the cd. Came to morning song and had remembered that somehow that song was on my computer around 1999 so Morning song is the first song i ever heard from jewel. I didnt know that they had given me Spirit too. So everynight I would play POY and Spirit while I was going to sleep. I was so fascinated by her voice! I had never heard anything like it. I was obssessed with high notes and low notes for some reason. Still am today actually lol. But, anywho that is when i dicovered jewel and have been hooked ever since.

PS My aunt and her gf had gotten out of jewel by the time i had dicovered her but now i have them hooked again. I think a lot of people can relate like i did with POY it helped me with my life and helped me dicover who i am. Jewel is such an inspiring Woman. Really is a Angel-Goddess! K im done lol

really liked your post, great story Nathan. (I always said, ironically enough, that if I ever had a boy I'd name him Nathan, good strong name).

I'm also glad you could get your family back into Jewel. That's really, really great.

Oh, and BTW, I listen to POY when I have trouble sleeping, mostly "Angel Standing By", and usually every momrning before I head out, I'll listen to 'Morning Song" at least once. Kinda makes things happy, gives the day a good feel.

Yep, kinda liked the sound of Nathan, very old English fel to it, but not ebselete like some name are today.

You know how you know that guy Jim? (come on, everyone knows a 'Jim'.) Well, his name is James, but epople ruin it with JIm, or Jimmy, or the hated Jimbo. Well, I think that Nathan has a dominant sound and has an articulated vibe to it. (not that I am dissing this name, but it sounds better than Joe! My best bud's name is Joe, but I'm just saying that you can't really corrupt the name Nathan, that's why I like it.)

Welcome to the forum, dear lad.

This guy named Nathan sat next to me at the last Jewel concert I went to. Oh yeah and he was next to me in my car. Oh and at dinner. :-P

I started liking Jewel a few years ago. I had just gotten into Jack Johnson and listening to music with more creative lyrics. I really liked some of Jack's lyrics and it made me think "Whoa lyrics are powerful!" I started searching for similar artists on some music website and Jewel popped up. Then I searched for fansites and I listened to a bunch of her unreleased stuff. I thought she was sooo cool after that. I bought POY, Spirit, and This Way all together for like 10 bucks from ebay and then I never replaced them in my CD player for months. Now Jewel takes up more space on my MP3 player than any other artist.

He has a website he just started really setting up. www.atzkilcher.com
You can hear some of his songs and he sells his cds if you contact him. There are some lovely pictures of the Kilchers on the site & you can see how Jewel takes after her grandmother.

I've always enjoyed listening to Jewel's music on the radio throughout the years as well as watching the videos that accompanied her singles. As a DJ, I would often make mixshows with remixes to Serve The Ego, and Stand. But, I never became as BIG of a fan until I heard Goodbye Alice In Wonderland. I ran out to buy the record, and I have been hooked ever since. Apparently GAIW is her most autobiographical record to date, and maybe it grew on me so fast and so parmanently because I could relate to some of the songs -- or at least interpret them to apply to my own experiences. Since then (summer 2006), I've picked copies of her earlier works and GAIW is still my favourite. Although, I must say that 0304 contained some very intense lyrics.

i'd heard of her for a while, i'd hear Standing Still and Intuition on the radio, but i had no idea they were by the same person =/.

my dad knew a lady at his work who was in a band, and she gave him a tape recording of them playing - one song was a cover of down so long. my dad asked her who sang it originally, and she told him Jewel, so he went to the library and rented out Spirit.

my mother knew he liked Jewel, so for christmas she tried to get him Spirit, but the store she went to didn't have any, so instead she got Pieces of You.

then the next christmas, after i had listened to POY numerous times in my dad's car, i asked for This Way for christmas, since i liked Standing Still best out of all her songs.

aaaaaaaaaannd then i went out and bought like all her cds.
