nada.... but i don't remember where i heard that possibly jewel's record was turned down by atlantic. i hope that is some kind of rumor and not that actual truth. they think it's jewel's music that is not selling? i think it's more their failure to promote it that is the problem! :devil1:

The rumor was posted on the official jeweljk forum. Hope it's not true.
Off the topic, How come you see the smilies in other people's posts only when you are logged in? I was going to ask why I was just seeing the words clapforjoy etc... until I logged in to post this message and then as soon as I did, the words dissappeared and turned into smilies. I thought something was wrong with my computer. If you understand what I am saying, what is up with that?

If you look at your board options, you will see one called:
Do you wish to view images in posts, such as smilies and posted images?
You have to log in to be able to set that. So if you're not logged in, the board doesn't have any way of knowing whether you want to view the images or not. So I guess they have it off by default.

Denied by Atlantic? Hmm...I wonder why. *cough0304cough* ^_^
michaelsjewel

no, i don't think they were denying it because of 0304, i think it was because she wanted to do a half live album. something like that doesn't allow much room for single choosings.... - and that's what a record label wants is to see good choices for singles so they can sell the product.
Personally, I think Jewel sounds a lot better live than on a studio album. Some of the songs on "Pieces of You" have the audience cheering at the end of the song, don't they? I don't know if they are considering those live or not. I don't see how a half live album could prevent singles from being released. As we know, a lot of times, the single version of Jewel's songs are different from the album version.

see...most of POY was live, except the 3 songs for sure that were the singles. and mass producing to release radio singles that appeal to the public as the actual product isn't nice to have them fooled into buying the album that doesn't contain the song that way, haven't you ever read reviews about POY on cd buying places, people were really pissed off @ POY big time because of it. heck, even i would be b/c foolish games is nowhere near the quality on the album as it is on the radio version. jupiter on spirit made a couple mad as well as they were fooled...though spirit in its own right is utmostly excellent almost all the way throughout. i've never personally experienced jewel live, but from what i've seen, i'm still not really a fan of live music - especially how she tries to ....wine through a song to give it a different sound - that was just annoying....the only exception though that i think worked well was the LIVE AT HUMPHREY's BY THE BAY dvd that actually had decent concert material. i understand that it's better to do it live than pretend to sing along with a recorded version, but sounding totally off doesn't really have much appeal.
I disagree. I've seen Jewel twice in concert and she doesn't change the songs all that much. They are still the same song. A few minor lyric changes here and there just make things more interesting. Having it sound exactly like the album version would be boring.
Having a slightly different single version of a song is a common practice among many artists, not just Jewel. I buy an album on the release date and then later hear a new version of a song that I'm familiar with. I think that is pretty neat. If it is different enough, I will even get the single if available.
I guess Jewel got away from the practice in the last 2 albums (I can't think of any singles that sounded different), but I don't know if it was because the record company wanted it this way or not.
'This Way' remains my favorite album although I still like POY and 'Spirit' almost as much. 0304 is a good album as well but many so-called fans just didn't accept it. I think the upbeat tone made the album well worth buying. When I am down for whatever reason, I tend to listen to it and it just makes me feel better about a poor situation. The lyrics in some of the songs are quite meaningful as well.
I think the record company should just let Jewel do whatever she wants. She still has a lot of fans and many of them are going to buy the album no matter what. To reject an album because Jewel wants something different than her record company wants is just a waste of time and money for the record company.

Well, I guess I should be more specific. I've actually been a member since it first went up, but I wasn't quite as big of a Jewel fan as I am now. At the time I just thought "eh, what the hell" and signed up. I went to the message board a few times, read some threads and posts, but never posted anything myself except maybe once or twice. I stayed on my own forum more often (which, I know that you're quite aware of) and didn't do too much on the net outside of that. It wasn't until the end of 2002 and the beginning of 2003 when I really began taking interest in Jewel more, started reading the EDA posts more often, and went to the JeweLink board. Over the past 1 1/2 to 2 years I made a few new friends and I liked the atmosphere of the forum in general. Sure, there's not a lot of features, but answer me this... If the forum on jewelkilcher.com/jewelfansite.com was still up and everyone was still posting on it, would you automatically go from that forum to this one? That forum wasn't updated from the time it went up in 1999 to the time it finally went down in 2002, had no smileys and no icons; so is it really better to have a forum with extra little features than a forum where you've made friends? I'd say that's how some people on the JeweLink board feel. They've been posting there for a while, they're used to it, they know the people more, so they're still posting there. When the jeweljk forum was up very few of them ever posted on that forum, and when it first went up most of them thought that it sucked. I don't know if they still felt the same way when it went down though, but I wouldn't doubt it.
Basically though, it's just a matter of opinion about what people think. ;)

I have to say, from a personal perspective, that a fancy forum does not make it fun. It's the people.
I dont know how we got onto this subject (it is far removed from the title subject) but sure we'll talk about it anyway. I have always liked the Jewellink forum though rarely posted. The only reason for that is because it plays havoc with my firewall and is just a pain in the ass to get around each time I want to post. Though I do enjoy reading it.
And although neither that board or the official board have no airs and graces about them, so long as they have a good collective of fun people with a mutual love of Jewel, I think that is what makes a board.
Yes it is fun having those little extra touches but I prefer people than features. That may sound odd coming from an administrator of this site but so long as we have a good bunch of fun people here (which I think we do, very much so) then that is what counts more than anything.
Take care
Kiera

I don't have much information but here's what I do have:
(Maybe this can help your site Dave)
The album will be probably released either later this year or early next year, but there is no official date set yet.. so far it seems that the album will be more like a mature version of POY with live acoustic songs
And she's been working with Rob Thomas, Brook n' Dunn, members from Bob Dylan's and Neil Young's bands and members of Pink Floyd. That's all I have though
And also I think one of the songs on the album is called Alice (In Wonderland)
And the lyrics to the song
Dreaming is a good thing 'cause it brings new things to life
Pretending is an ending that perpetuates a lie
Forgetting what you are,
Seeing for what you've been told
And growing up is not the absence of dreaming,
It's being able to understand the difference between the ones you can hold
And the ones that you've been sold
This has been posted on a JewelQuotes community. Glad I can repost this here ^_^

i hope alice in wonderland will be on the album as in an acoustic live version like the one i'm listening to right now.. it sounds great that way and i don't think it needs any other instruments to it then the guitar and jewels voice

Oh, I don't care at all. :) The reason why I didn't say anything here was because I figured most everyone knew about it. I assumed that most people knew that it'd be more like POY, and that at the time it was either going to be released either later last year or early this year. if shadow's play was successful .... no matter what you say david , jewel created 0304 b/c she's always wanted to do a pop album...she said it herself...get over it - it happened don't go blaming it on previous gestures ....if anything, serve the ego dance remixes was the one to blame - though i'm glad 0304 was made - far better than that this way country crap

I do prefer the This Way "country crap". I'm sorry, but I really can't stand 0304. I can't listen to it.

not all of this way is country crap....if that was misunderstood before...let that be understood now i meant just a few of the country-themed songs on it really was bothering...... 0304 hits bad spots when um...10-12 on the track list - they just seem too similar -

OMG YES U CAN Is the best song on that cd it sounds nothing like
Sweet tempation or U and me

YES U CAN is a good song yes, but when played in the order between those two songs, they all seem very fast paced - something i consider really similar to eachother even if they aren't really sound wise - but speed wise - it does flow i agree ...though you and me = love is almost like another half part to yes u can sometimes...lol...oh well...i just think that the album is bad once it hits haunted - america and becoming though are a very good ending though - especially BECOMING - my favorite jewel song up to this time - probably will be for awhile

What I find really sad about 0304 is that all of the songs on the album could've been potential singles.

there's nothing wrong with potential singles - they make for great promotion.... just ask shania twain about her COME ON OVER cd - most of that album became singles...i couldn't believe they released most of them as singles....but i would say that album is great even though i don't own it - my dad owns it though ...the INTERNATIONAL VERSION which is the more pop version...i should go buy that....
i just bought THE VERY BEST OF CHER last nite - cher's awesome :)

hey assmonkey, I'll get around to sending you the acoustic version of Intuition in a little over a week.. I forgot how soon spring break was coming up and I don't have my computer with me to do it.. same goes for the other songs that i was going to send to people.
Also, did anybody hear the acoustic version of haunted? I think that would be awesome to hear on the radio.

Just some unofficial assumptions: summer, but it looks like next year if not late this year.
