We would like to announce a great new change that is coming soon. We have been working to bring this information to you for several months and a few weeks ago, we were financially able to make a new step for the JKF.

The JKF will be changing software from InvisionFree to IPB 2.1.4 (Invision Power Board).

What is new?
We have purchased both hosting and a full IPB 2.1.4 licence and will be transfering to this new software in the next few weeks.

Why have we done this?
InvisionFree is great but we feel that as free forum software, it is both too limiting and more catered for smaller forums. As we are almost at 10,000 posts, we are already considered a largely active forum and more suitable software with proper hosting is more suitable to our needs. Not only that, the new licenced software brings more for members making the whole experience better for everyone.

What does this mean to you?

Updates from IPB to include more usability of Forum software
Avatar Galleries
More webspace for uploads
More bandwidth
Faster connection to the site
And much much more!


We have not ironed out all the details and are still working with the transfer and setup teams between InvisionFree and IPB to bring the completed forum to you. There will be some downtime, but we will keep you informed of the eventualities and keep any downtime to a minimum.

Hope you are all as excited about this new change as Dave and I are.

basically, the software of the board is changing.

We are currently using s FREE Forum provider but pay to remove the ads. The forum is also hosted by InvisionFree for Free.

However, the software is very limiting. IPB is fully customisable, brings loads more features for everyone. It also means we have more control with the forum software. We can add in and remove things we like/dislike. It also means we have our own webspace allowing us to upload more files and to allow you to upload your avatars, profile pics etc.

InvisionFree is suitable to smaller forums with a smaller amount of posts but as we grow, so do our needs that InvisionFree cannot provide in the long term.

Hopefully that makes more sense.

The conversion will take place in the next couple of days. We have been told that no downtime is require however, anything posted here AFTER the conversion will not be moved to the new software.

This means we will either take the forum down for a day or 2 or you'll have to repost what didn't make the conversion.

It is likely we will lose some posts regardless but we are trying to keep it to a minimum. We have also been told that uploaded images will not be brought across. This means anyone who uploaded their avatar or profile pic will not have their images brought across by the conversion. But this isn't a problem. I am personally saving all the uploaded files and I will reinstate them to your profiles on the new software.

Actually, the new forum is setup but it's not using this domain just yet.

What will happen is, I will need to move the domain to the new forum in the next day or 2.
This will mean that you cannot access this forum using the www.jewelkilcherforum.com (http://www.jewelkilcherforum.com) URL but you will still be able to access it using
http://s3.invisionfree.com/jewel_kilcher_forum

I know this is inconvenient but it will be short term and will be for the better. I'll keep you all posted.

When I use that url, it redirects me to the invisionfree url. Is that supposed to happen?

There has been a major delay in Invisionfree releasing the current forum database and so we will not be moving until they do so.

Once the current forum has been converted to the new forum software, the current www.jewelkilcherforum.com link will go to the new IPB forum.

When we find our feet on the new forum, this one will be turned off. When we are at the new forum, you will no longet be able to post at this one but you will be directed where to go if you to happen to find your way here.

I'm sorry about this delay but it is unfortunately out of my hands at the moment.

I'll keep you up to date as soon as we have new information. But it is definitely still happening!!
