Anyway yeah i'm a fan of ol Nelly, funny you brought this thread up as its been mentioned elsewhere in this forum of 'what other Female Artists you like' sometime ago...and for the life of me i could'nt remember any but Jewel!!! etc but i have to say amidst my dark gloomy metal music its not often i bung on some Nelly Furtado, but when me moods right, her tunes come on :)

The same here :) I don't have any of her CDs and don't really know her music well.. just from what I've seen of her videos so I'm mostly referring to singles.. but I do listen to her songs when they come on the radio or TV and generally like her lyrics.. I do think she is talented. I'm sure that this has to do with me loving folk music (contemporary) altogether though.. I should get more of her CDs then I could tell you what I think about her..

I think she's alright. I really like 'Maneater' and 'Promiscuous Girl.
Normally I'm not really into the R&B/Rap/Hip-Hop thing but these songs are well done.

You liked Promicious girl yuck lol!!
I love nelly furtado but that just is a horribly written song but she is great.
Her best cd is Folklore by far

I hope that's true. She might have a May relase as well as Jewel.

It's May 23rd.

I love her, and I love RnB/Hip Hop, so I'll love it.

Most of the songs are produced by Timbaland, Chris Martin is featured on a song, and Pharrell Williams produced a song.

^^ hehe.
it ended up being june 20th, chris martin was removed from the track and the pharrell songs never made the cut.

a-ma-zing album anyways.

The Chris martin duet was horrible. He sounded like a puppy in pain that is why they had to cut it. It was just a horrible sounding thing to listen to

They said it made him sound too "rock" and it would "alienate his fanbase" aka the people who don't mind him making the same song 12 times for one album and then making the same album 3 times. :D

Coldplay is honestly just a boring boring band. It does make me wonder how their music really appeals to anyone. To each their own I guess.

Well it's confirmed Nelly is releasing her 3rd single "Say It Right" and the verdict on this one is it;s gonna be a flop. "Maneater" isnt doing that hot right now here in the USA I mean its getting alot of airplay and such but it is not in the same ballpark as Promiscuous she neeeds to get here and tour and work on a new album "Loose" doesnt have much more steam

ItBeThatWay27

why does everyone like promiscuous... I hate that song, maneater has a much better beat to it..

btw I love Coldplay

Say It Right is doing great!

I don't really like Say it Right, it sounds like it's ripped off some 80's song to me but I can't put my finger on it

12-29-2006, 09:21 AM
"all good things come to an end" was released in the UK I wonder how it is doing over there.. I can't believe Maneater was basically a flop here. Say it right would be a goood song if it wasnt drowned out by so many useless beats

ItBeThatWay27
12-29-2006, 01:24 PM
I'm surprised too, I thought maneater was a strong track. I really love all good things come to an end. I hope it does well for her

12-29-2006, 03:01 PM
I reallly what her next single to be "In god's hands" That is such a powerful song..

There is this thing going on where u go to some website and vote for what you want her next single to be. I think "Showtime" and "Wait for you"
Showtime is ok but wait for you is like "say it right" on replay

ItBeThatWay27
12-29-2006, 04:28 PM
I don't really like either of those songs, honestly there's only like 4 songs on the whole album that I even bother to listen to. I really like the first track... uh oh yeah it's called "Afraid" I think that's a great song

I like say it right but I totally agree it sounds like an 80's ripoff that you skated to when you were a kid at the rink

PerfectLie

All Good Things peaked at #4 in the UK, making it her third top 5 single from this album.

The next American single is Showtime, unfortunately.

I like "Showtime" better than "say it right"

PerfectLie
12-30-2006, 02:51 PM
I don't haha.
Showtime doesn't mean anything; Say It Right is quite deep actually. The way I interprete it anyways.

I like Nelly Furtado since "I'm like a bird". I love "Turn off the light" from the same album. "Folklore" was indeed an excellent album. Again I love listening to singles "Try" and "Força". From her last release (I didn't listen to the album) I'm crazy about "Maneater" , I played it 3 or 4 times a day when I bought the single. It was a success in France , not a huge hit , but it received massive airplay. "Promiscuous" I like too but less than other songs (the video has just been played on tv this morning so I am happy!). Some old french fans don't like her new style (too commercial r'n'b) but I find that she is less "shocking" than Mariah Carey or worse ... Beyonce ! These ones never miss an occasion to show their legs and bosom (while saying they're very religious and faithful... how sinful!!! ). That reminds me of the "Intuition " video...

Folklore was an amazing Album......
See I would like to hear an acoustic version of say it right so I can hear what the hell she is saying
All i can hear in the song is a bunch of beats that's it the over-production of the song drowns out her voice and u can't hear anything

ItBeThatWay27
01-07-2007, 01:23 PM
I love folklore. That's funny b/c I just listened to it this morning after not listening to it for months. I love the song 'Try', it's definately my favorite song by Furtado. I was thinking the other day I'd like to hear that song covered by some metal band, I think the lyrics are pretty universal and would sound cool w/ some grungy metal dude was screaming them.... but maybe that's just me...

HA HA HA That would be quite intresting.. You know Nelly sings "try" at almost every one of her concerts.. That's what I like about her she is very versitle.. Although her voice may not be . She's not afraid to try something new.. Look at her 3 albums. on Woah Nelly she had that cute nasaly song and she had like some radio suited pop songs. The album was kinda fun and not terribly deep . Then she comes out with her best album to date "Folklore" The songs have more meaning and she was getting in touch with her portuguse roots in this album and the growth might of been a drastic change for people but it had some of her best work "Explode, Picture Perfect, ISland of wonder, Try, Powerless, One trick pony" Basically the whole album was amazing.. Then she comes out with "Loose" not anything terribly deep on this one just a fun kinda hip hop dance album. She kinda explored a new sound and it worked for her. Just the point that no 2 of her albums have really been the same is what makes me really like her and standout out of all the other "popular" artists these days. Although maybe "In god's hands" would of been perfect on folklore and "Do it" could of been on woah nelly. Not the point overall shes awesome

I'm not really into the new Nelly Furtado but I have to say, 'All Good Things' was a really brilliant surprise. I just love it. It holds quite a powerful message and it made me smile when I first heard it. The older Nelly that I liked when she first came out is not gone.

Only other song like that on Loose is "In god's hands" Which is just amazing!!!!
She had 4 songs that didn't make this album "I am" Which was just amazing "Undercover" that one was different very different I think its on the "maneater single"
"Runaway" very older nellly would of fit folklore well.. and then "somebody to love" which is unexplainable

I only liked about 4 songs on Nelly's new album. My fav is No Hay Igual, awesome!
I agree on the comments for Say it Right I can't understand a word she is saying but i think it's mainly her voice biing all scratchy and how she pronounces words.
Still I like the beat and chorus.

ItBeThatWay27
01-21-2007, 12:52 PM
I think No hay igual is a great track as well. iTunes advertised the radio version of that song a while before the album even dropped so I bought it cause I thought it sounded cool, then when I heard the album version, it sounds exactly the same... the only problem (which isnt a problem b/c I really enjoy latin music) is that I dont know what she is saying. Is there a translation for no hay igual? I don't even know what "No Hay Igual" means...

I seen lyrics in english a while ago and I am pretty sure it means "There is no Equal" or something to that effect. The song is reallly strange and just weird if u read the english lyrics i should get them up

What it is? Come and look at it!
Come and take away my pain
Crazy for you, please, and I already know your smell
What it is? My pleasure, sir
When I'm with you I feel so much heat
I go crazy with your love
And I understand your honor

Chorus

I only want you , theres nothing equal
For that I'm waiting, my body hurts
I really like you, the time passes
I don't want another, there’s no other
There's no other (What do we do?)
There's no other (What do we do?)

The hunger I have you have to kill
My empty cup you have to fill
My lonely nights have to end
Tell me you're never gonna leave me (What it is?)
But don't be late. Every day my body cries
Many things I want from that lady
I want what I want and I want it now

You wake me up when your singing to my name (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
You wake me up when your singing to my name (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh my love I need you sound (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh my love you’re my boy, everything ready (ah-ah-ah-ah-ahhhh)

Sorry to be a wet blanket but Nelly has "sellout" written all over her. I'm just not having her new record but her first two were very good.

Does anyone know if Nelly's latest release is 'all good things' (come to an end)?

If it is....then wooohoo!!! :) best song on her album, as previously alerted by ME!! :)

Accompanied by Chris Martin of Coldplay this song is....as some americans say 'awesome'

If anyone has or can find an instrumental version can they please send me a pvt message, thanks

Dave that is the best song on the album IMO also. As for the Chris Martin version, not sure whether I like it as much as the album version, but it's decent.

Shaun, thanks for finding the translation. Although I admit I don't like the lyrics too much in English, I'd rather not know what she's saying ha ha

Wackyoverkhaki- I understand where you're coming from, it is without question her worst album. I don't know if I'd use the word sell-out or not. I try not to label people sell-outs so much mainly b/c I saw how Jewel was labeled a sell-out for 0304 but it was just that most people didn't understand what she was doing.

yeah... if u like Nelly Furtado , there is a compilation series you should check out called "Euro Club Hits" --

it's pretty clear that dance music is coming back around the world -- just check the recent big American hip-hop and R&B hits which are clear rip-offs of the european dance style.....

here's the direct iTunes link to the "Euro Club Hits" series.....

Wasnt/Isnt Nelly well doing in the USA? Because here in europe all her singles get so much overplayed on the radio.. I cant say. Everytime i hear her songs from loose, i just think that this is not nelly furtado, this is just timbaland.. I mean ok the songs are very well produced and catchy, but when you compare loose to folklore you hear a big difference. Shes very very popular since loose came out here in €, isnt it the same in USA? I really liked "maneater" and "all good things" but they were so much overplayed so i didnt spent much attention to nelly furtado anymore. what do you think?

Well put my friend.. I feel the same exact way.. Folklore was an amazing album one that was overlooked to. For me I think it is one of the albums I think everyone should have. There is this interview online I think it was Travis Smiley he turned into a a big a$$ to her because he pointed out about your first record sold millions and this one isn't selling so how is the pressue the same.
I thought it was a huge low blow and very low i would of b*tchslap him and he has the nerve to say I "say this with all due respect but it just hasn't sold" Like thanks for pointing that out. This is when she was real and what not but it seems times have changed heres the interview
