oh yes, i like the cure as well, havent listened to them for a while though...i think the spiderman song they did was pretty cool..."on candy striped legs, the spiderman comes..." or something like that! I suppose as far as unusual music goes...I do like this group called Hednigarna, a swedish/finnish group.

not everyone has alanis morissette's utopia or fiona apple's THE FIRST TASTE.....or madonna's hollywood cd's.... !!!!!! i mean, the first taste is like the only popular song i listed! so they could be unheard by some...maybe not u... but still also, fast as you can from fiona would be popular - nonetheless if you consider my choices to be too popular!
fine...how about these...
Kylie Minogue - I BELIEVE IN YOU
Tori Amos - Ant Jacque (not sure if correctly spelled)
- New Age
Beth Hart - L.A. Song ( i know it's familiar - but no one would mention it b/c it's easily forgotton)

Many bands do, it's a very popular song. Have you heard A Perfect Circle? They have done a cover as well. It's just a beautiful song. Actually, I have a quote for you:
RD: Who are your favorite artists at the moment?
Jewel: I like David Gray a lot and recently I've been getting into The Cure (years too late, I know). I like Michelle Branch a lot, too
:) There you go, it's from an interview with Ronita Dutta. And to recommend a song, download Perfect Circle, Blue. Maybe you'll love it :)

i think the best rendition of Awake was the Godsmack concert, the sat. after sep.11th, they had almost cancelled the concert because of it, Sully said how it had taken on a whole new meaning for them after the attacks, and after a brief prayer and moment of silence you could just feel the energy of it going through the crowd...it was awesome, that's my favorite time hearing Awake

Im guessing that most of the Jewel fans already know about Jason Mraz. Ive not had the pleasure of listening to him, but ive got me an album to listen to, so i will report back later.
His input to 'who will save your souls' with Jewel was fantastic so i am looking forward to it, i just loved his lyrics.
... so, for a while at least its move over Jewel, Lene Marlin, Scissor Sisters and Athlete in my car, and welcome Mr Mraz

Jethro Tull has a good fat song too

would rather be a thin man, I am so glad to go on being one,
too much to carry around with you, no chance of finding a woman who
will love you in the morning and all the nighttime too-woo......
won't waste my time feeling sorry for him, I've seen the other side to being thin, roll us both down a mountain and I'm sure the fat man would win"

A Norwegian girl gave me some songs a while back to la la la la along to. Some are weird some are great. Norwegian music has been a facination of mine for a while now and to be honest i think the thing that sets it apart from other foreign music is their ability to sing in english but still have a unique 'twang' to the voice.
Anyway, ive always loved Lene Marlin, proberbly the best known Norwegian artist other than Ah Ha in the 80's.
Recently i spoke with my Norske friend again and she sent me some tunes so heres a small list. If you get some time to download please do as id like to think im not the only person listening lol.
Bertine Zetlitz - Adore Me
Bertine Zetlitz - Rollerskating
Maria Arredondo - Just a little heartache
Maria Arredondo - Burning
Sissel Kyrkjeb? - Where the lost ones go
Lene Marlin/Espen Lind - Venn
Morten Abel - Cries like a baby
Morten Abel - Birmingham Ho -- crazy song! - heres the lyrics
I met this girl in a Birmingham taxi
I got it first, but she slipped in before me
Just as I was telling her, hey this is mine
She already told the cab driver where to go
Me I always show respect for the ladies
I sat back and let her have it her way
So good lord sees me through darkness and light
I tell you what I remembered from that night
I'm hungry, do you fancy a little something to eat?
I can't go on forever on Cognac and weed
But she was already on the way down in the seat
I tried to stop her, or maybe I didn't
So there I was in a strange situation
The chauffeur said I can drop you off at the station
I said no man, no don't
I tell you when to stop keep your eyes on the road
You don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
No, you don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
You don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
Two hours later, she was still at it
The driver had to refill gasoline and s**t
Baby baby, introduce yourself
What's your name, girl?
My name is Fred
Fred?
Fred, yeah
Fred, a'what a'what did you say?
Now that put me back a bit 'cos I'm not gay
Now that put me back a bit 'cos I'm not gay
You don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
No, you don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
You don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
So whatever kind of trouble you might get yourself into
Just think of me that night and what I went through
I thought it was Helen or Marie or whatever, giving me head
Until I realised it was this dude called Fred ... Hello
And that was a Birmingham Ho
Hey, ho hey, ho hey
And that was a Birmingham Ho
Hey, ho hey, ho hey, ho hey
Take it away now..
Hold on a minute, that's bull:censored::censored::censored::censored:
You told me it was a microphone
And you wanted me to sing in it
I have a lot of friends and I do lots of things for them
I don't think it's me, I think it's you that have a problem
So zip up and try to be a gentleman
I have feelings too and I don't need you to hurt them
So zip up and try to be a gentleman
So zip up and try to be a man
You don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
No, you don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
You don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
You don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
No, you don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
You don't have to be gay to make a friend feel good OK
And that was a Birmingham Ho
Hey, ho hey, ho hey

Hey, ho hey, ho hey, ho hey...

Hey Andrea......... :bananarock: lol
I know its an oldie song but 'sweet harmony' by The Beloved
It reminds me of the 80's when things were a little different in the world. I can remember getting home from a busy day at work and watching some tv, then, after my ex wife had gone to bed i used to put the cd player on. Grab some headphones and put stuff like the above on..... usually drifting away to some deserted island in the sun and just generally feeling good.
I find listening to music is the best drug, one minute you can be feeling a little down, the next your flying above the world with not a care.
Im definatly at my best when im listening to music, the only problem is when you have to switch it off and get back into reality.
Has anyone else done what ive done and had the headphones on full blast, only to reach over for a cup of tea and pull out the socket at 3AM! lol.
:lalala:

ya dave, i know what you mean. lol, i have to get my girls interested in my music before i can enjoy it at home though, otherwise it's "mommy, can we listen to something else? can we watch kuzko?" or various other things. but they usually like what i listen to (around them), right now we are on a phantom of the opera kick, they looooove it, which makes it nice for me. usually i find music is a good anger therapy for me, there is nothing better when i am totaly stressed than to get in the car and blast Godsmack (since there are like only 2 songs of theirs with no cursing i dont listen to it around the girls) and sing along with it. i also really like Loreena McKennit, Marrakesh Market Nigth is really great, the sound of all the hand drums is just awesome.
ya know it occurs to me once again the wierdness of listening to Godsmack considering my signature, and they very much not christian....
yes i know i am confusing

Ok then here we go...my other fav type of music is not anything Jewel does or anyone else like her for that matter.
Im a Hardcore Norwegian black metal fan, goth enthusiast, doom metal, folk, ambient, trance dance type fan :devil1: 'but' i like many other forms/variants of music(cant name them all!!!)BUT...DEFINATLY NOT todays top of the pops trollop or Nu-metal sha-woddy-woddy rubbish either... :P
Darkthrone - Det Svartner N?
1349 - Chaos Within
Burzum - Det Som Engang Var
Dimmu Borgir - Sorgens Kammer
Virgin Black - Velvet Tongue
My Dying Bride - A Doomed Lover
...the first four are just 'some' of the top dark Norse bands to date, very obscure bands indeed, the Norwegian music scene is at the moment vibrant with all sorts of wonderful kinds of styles, very good with there folk and pagan history etc
In my household theres the best of both...wether it be the beautiful angelic voice and soothing sounds and intricate harmonies of Jewel or Dido...
or the Darkest blood curdling screams of satanic wrath in the essence of fast paced black metal...lmao!!! (you'll soon discover im a very strange person)

dave, here is a corny song to cheer you up...makes me think of when i used to wait for the bus on my way to work
Waiting for the Bus
We got the mother and the kids
we got the guy and his date
we all get mad
we all get late
looks like somebody forgot about us
standin on the corner
waitin' for a bus
say hey mister driver man
don't be slow
cause I got somewhere I got to go
say hey mister driver man
drive that thing fast
my precious time keep slippin' past
lets call the mayor lets complain
looks like the city's done to us again
tied up in traffic what'ya know
the damn city bus moves so slow
I said hey mister driver man
don't be slow
cause I got somewhere I got to go
say hey mister driver man
drive that thing fast
my precious time keep slippin' past

Aye i hear what yer sayin...alot of my freinds are into that band, and Wumpscut and Lacrimosa also, all German industrialised/goth/metal :P and in fairness there all fairly alike each other...Cult of Luna is another, all of these i think anyone who likes a lil bit of metal/rock in there lives 'should' be able to deal with these types of bands, coz they are classed in "extreme" genre and you would'nt even think so if you heard them :D

Further to my post on 'songs to share' id like to bring up James Blunt and his song from the album called 'Back to Bedlam'
Well, thing is, theres a few songs that just make me smile, they at the same time mean so much to me. Take for instance 'who will save your soul' - its as if Jewel knew about my life before stuff happened.
Its a bit like the James Blunt song 'Tears & Rain' - ive even taken to reading again lol, ive even gone really deep into my soul and REALLY REALLY found some answers.
Anyway, before i bore you all anymore take a listen to this song, and if you cant, just read the lyrics, its just beautiful. A true meaning of a song isnt just in the voice, its a peice of art. "vision is the art of seeing things invisible" - Johnathan Swift.
"Tears And Rain"
How I wish I could surrender my soul;
Shed the clothes that become my skin;
See the liar that burns within my needing.
How I wish I'd chosen darkness from cold.
How I wish I had screamed out loud,
Instead I've found no meaning.
I guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain,
All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble.
Hides my true shape, like Dorian Gray.
I've heard what they say, but I'm not here for trouble.
It's more than just words: it's just tears and rain.
How I wish I could walk through the doors of my mind;
Hold memory close at hand,
Help me understand the years.
How I wish I could choose between Heaven and Hell.
How I wish I would save my soul.
I'm so cold from fear.
I guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain,
All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble.
Hides my true shape, like Dorian Gray.
I've heard what they say, but I'm not here for trouble.
Far, far away; find comfort in pain.
All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble.
It's more than just words: it's just tears and rain.
"When the doors of perception are finally cleansed we will all see things as they truly are" :mecry:

well, this song and artist aren't new to me, but it may be new to someone else...to be honest i really don't keep up with many or any new artists, i tend to stick to my old favorites more often than not. so here is one from Mark Heard:
Look Over Your Shoulder
Look over your shoulder and tell me what's coming
Tell me, what is the bogey that you're so afraid of?
The eyes in the back of our heads can persuade
That just for the moment mercy has swayed
Look over your shoulder and tell me what's coming
Look into your sad eyes and tell me what you see
What is left of the child who is hiding behind them?
Who longs to be laughing in places of light
Who knows that the morning will follow the night?
Look into your sad eyes and tell me what you see
If you must be afraid be afraid of yourself
For being afraid of the fear you have felt
You will weather well in a climate of love
It takes more than your passion and more than your pain
For the rock of forgiveness to melt in the rain
Look over your shoulder and tell me what's coming
Look into your sad eyes and tell me what you see
Look over your shoulder and tell me what's coming

hmmmm..had me reading those lyrics a couple of times actually! a song of love and fate maybe!? interesting....
On another note, anyone heard of a band called 'Godspeed You Black Emperor'?
now this is not rock or metal in the slightest, its more alternitive indie id say...and if you've seen the film "28 Days Later" its the begining song on the film just before he discovers the infected ones within the church. The song i share with you today is "East Hastings" by 'Godspeed You Black Emperor' check it out funkie junkies!!!

Look Over Your Shoulder is one of my favorite Mark Heard songs, it talks about no matter what you have done in your past and what mistakes you make in life, once you accept Jesus (can hear the groans of people reading about christian stuff now) it doesn't matter, it is forgiven and in Gods eyes forgotten-alot of the time christians esp. (and people in general), myself included for sure, let the memory and fear of past failures and the fear of future mistakes render them useless, but like the song says it takes more than that "for the rock of forgiveness (Jesus/God's love, forgiveness) to melt in the rain", and also "if you must be afraid, be afraid of yourself" because once you receive God's forgiveness He isnt up there dangling your mistakes over your head waiting to bash you with them...we bash ourselves with our own pasts...
and anyways, is that off topic since it dealt with a song i posted? i guess i need to study up on what will classify off topic :P
but, it does deal with love as well!

"I was not put here by anyone in fear
I came alone as me
Just an idea in a long chain of discovery
Surrounded by the same you
Sometimes your tide pulls me out to sea
And I die in a thrashing curse
Sometimes we are kind
More often, I doze
So far up the beach that those who try to reach are burnt alive in the searing
heat of the desert of my dispassion
So far removed, I never hear the water
'Cept once or twice a month when I see a mirror
And I refuse to believe in some of the things that are said to be here
Let alone those that are not
I'm trying to change my direction
Ours is pathetic in my own humble estimation
I love the planet
The great benign she-wolf
Benefactor
Spinning gently on towards the red giant four aeons hence
When all the rose gardens are consumed in the flash-fire of flying time
She'll leave alone to you"
You know something i'v always liked that wee lil poem type thing!? its the (spoken)lyrics to the begining of a song called 'Hope' from an english soft rock band called 'Anathema'...and the song was co written by 'Pink Floyd' sounds kinda Floydish dont ya think? from some of their 'Wall' album stuff!!!??? just thought i'd put this in here...ignore it if you must

i love pink floyd's lyrics, one of my favorites is "Wish You Were Here"
So, so you think you can tell, Heaven fom Hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field, from a cold steel rail
a smile from a veil
Do you think you can tell?
Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts
Hot ashes for trees, hot air for a cool breeze
Cold comfort for change
Did you exchange a walk on part in a war
For a lead role in cage
How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found, the same old fears
Wish you were here...
wow, there are just so many good songs!

I've always loved The Beloved and Deliver Me is my most favourite song of theirs.
Here are the lyrics
deliver me, out of my sadness
deliver me, from all of the madness
deliver me, courage to guide me
deliver me, strength from inside me
all of my life i was in hiding
wishing there was someone just like you
now that you're here
now that i've found you
i know that you're the one to pull me through
deliver me, loving and caring
deliver me, giving and sharing
all of my life i was in hiding
wishing there was someone just like you
now that you're here
now that i've found you
i know that you're the one to pull me through
deliver me
deliver me
oh, deliver me
all of my life i was in hiding
wishing there was someone just like you
now that you're here
now that i've found you
i know that you're the one to pull me through
all of my life i was in hiding
wishing there was someone just like you
now that you're here
now that i've found you
i know that you're the one to pull me through
deliver me
won't you deliver me?

aw man, who does that song again...its right on the tip of my mind and its driving me crazy!! is it Delirious? cant remember :bang:
at any rate, i like that song ALOT!
here is one that always calms down Ethny, it also is one of my fav. "love" songs, reminds me of joe and i...
when the heck did i get so darn sentimental? But mostly i sing it to Ethny ^_^
Look into my eyes,
Don't you try to say that I don't love you
You know darn well I'll love you,
Til the end of time
Look into my heart my soul,
There's a picture of a girl
A picture of a girl that looks like you
And all my hopes and dreams,
They never seemed complete
Just never seemed to be,
Until I felt your lips touch mine
And only time will tell,
If you love me half as much as I love you
And I think you do
'Cause I can see it in your eyes
And every night I pray
That you won't fly from me
This beautiful angel as I hum
-Don't let me down, oh no, don't let me down-
And I know this isn't much
And I know that I'm not perfect
But try to look past my imperfections
And I'd look past yours too
If I thought that you had any
You're much too good to be true,
You're much too good for me, wo-oh
And I just want ya, I just need ya
I just have to have you here with me
And if there's anything that you know
Darling know I love, and maybe love me too
And be my baby, yes, be my baby, yea
Just love me too, oh like i love you
And be my baby, yea

Heaven, by Live
You don't need no friends
Get back your faith again
You have the power to believe
Another dissident
Take back your evidence
It has no power to deceive
I'll believe it when I see it for myself
I don't need no one to tell me about heaven
I look at my daughter, and I believe.
I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth
I can see the sunset and I perceive
I sit with them all night
Everything they say is right
But in the morning they were wrong
I'll be right by your side
Come hell or water high
Down any road you choose to roam
I'll believe it when I see it for myself
I don't need no one to tell me about heaven
I look at my daughter, and I believe.
I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth
I can see the sunset and I perceive, yeah
Darling, I believe, Oh Lord
Sometimes it's hard to breathe, Lord
At the bottom of the sea, yeah yeah
I'll believe it when I see it for myself
I don't need no one to tell me about heaven
I look at my daughter, and I believe.
I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth
I can see the sunset and I perceive
I don't need no one to tell me about heaven
I look at my daughter, and I believe.
I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth
I can see the sunset
I can see the sunset
I can see the sunset
I don't need no one
I don't need no one, oh
I don't need no one
I don't need no one
To tell me about heaven
I believe
I believe it, yeah

THE MYSTIC'S DREAM
Words and music by Loreena McKennitt
A clouded dream on an earthly night
Hangs upon the crescent moon
A voiceless song in an ageless light
Sings at the coming dawn
Birds in flight are calling there
Where the heart moves the stones
It's there that my heart is calling
All for the love of you
A painting hangs on an ivy
Nestled in the emerald moss
The eyes declare a truce of trust
And then it draws me far away
Where deep in the desert twilight
Sand melts in pools of the sky
When darkness lays her crimson cloak
Your lamps will call me home
And so it's there my homage's due
Clutched by the still of the night
And now I feel you move
Every breath is full
So it's there my homage's due
Clutched by the still of the night
Even the distance feels so near
All for the love of you.
