Well Dave, thanks for the welcome. I must admit though that you have my location abysmally wrong as I am in fact in the south eastern US, North Carolina. Lol! You do however have the other bits right, and I am quite a fan of Jewels poetry. My favorite poems are: I Don't Suppose Raindrops, Wild Horse, We Have Been Called, You Are Not, and finally Steady Yourself, which seems to apply to my life quite well right now. Ah well, as for not being as obsessive as Dave...well, he will have to overlook that for now ;) :thxblush:
I will try not to be a stranger, Andrea

Eileen Aroon - Eibhlin a Run
I know a valley fair, Eileen aroon
I know a cottage there, Eileen aroon
Far in that valley's shade
I knew a gentle maid
Flower of a hazel glade, Eileen aroon

Who in the song, so sweet, Eileen aroon
Who in the dance so fleet, Eileen aroon
Dear are her charms to me
Dearer her laughter free
Dearest her constancy, Eileen aroon

When, like the early rose, Eileen aroon
Beauty in childhood blows; Eileen aroon
When, like a diadem
Buds blush around the stem
Which is the fairest gem? Eileen aroon

Is is the laughing eye, Eileen aroon
Is it the timid sigh, Eileen aroon
Is it the tender tone
Soft as the string'd harp's moan?
Oh! it is truth alone, Eileen aroon

When like the rising day, Eileen aroon
Love sends his early ray, Eileen aroon
What makes his dawning glow
Changeless through joy or woe?
Only the constant know - Eileen aroon

Eibhlin A Run - Eileen Aroon

Sheolfainn fein gamhna leat, Eibhlin a run
Sheolfainn fein gamhna leat, Eibhlin a run
Sheolfainn fein gamhna leat, sios go Tir Amhlai leat
Mar shuil go mbeinn i gcleamhnas leat, Eibhlin a run

An dtiocfaidh tu no an bhfanfaidh tu, Eibhlin a run?
An dtiocfaidh tu no an bhfainfaidh tu, Eibhlin a run?
Tiocfaidh me is ni fhanfaidh me, tiocfaidh me is ni fhanfaidh me
Tiocfaidh me is ni fhanfaidh me is ealoidh me le me stor.

Yep, That is gaelic or gaeilge as we call it here. THough that dialect is quite different so I would say it is Scotch Gaelic.

I speak Gaeilge but not fluently (I know, the shame of it). I just love my native language and I love reading it in poems. Thanks for that Dave.

Ok...sorry for going off on a tangent there.

Kiera,

I think thats so cool that you can speak gaelic-it is one of many things I want to learn. I do medieval re-enacting type stuff in the SCA, or Society of Creative Anachronists, and my persona is 14th century Irish/Gaelic, thus the name Eibhlin (an Eich Ghil to complete it) but alas, I havent made the time to learn anything yet :) I would also like to learn suomi, as I am mostly finnish, hmm, I seem to pick difficult languages to want to learn...

Well, thats me, looking for a challenge I guess!

Talk to ya later!

Andrea

Yes Irish (Gaeilge - pronounced GaleGa) is a very difficult language which explains why so many Irish people today don't speak it even a little bit let alone fluently, even though it is taught in school from the beginning til the day they leave. The grammar is just so hard and the pronunciation can be a little difficult when you see how the word is spelt. I still LOVE IT though.

Believe it or not, it is still not a recognised european langauge despite it being one of the oldest in the region. Irish people have been fighting for decades for it to be recognised, until now, without success. It is of course, a recognised language here but it would be nice if others in the world could learn it and have it recognised.

I can see we will get on very well indeed! :D
Take care
Kiera
