So Pure

From those of you who have heard the newer songs live this past summer (Good Day, Goodbye Alice in Wonderland and so on...) which are likely to be hits/singles from the new album? What do you foresee? I haven?t heard anything new yet so all I?m hoping for is some of the older songs that I feel in love with (Violet Eyes, Carnivore, Satellite) will make it on the new album. What?s the inspiration? Does it sound Rock? Folk? Pop????
February can?t come too soon!

I believe 1000 Miles away and Stephenville Tx are supposed to make it but anything can happen between now and Feb.
I would love to see those on there though. Great all time faves of mine.

I'd really just love Carnivore to be on there. I like her other new stuff, but I think Carnivore has some radio potential.

Well Kiera hates me for this but I'm going to rub it in one more time. When I went to Jewel's concert and met her for the first time. She was on stage and I shouted out Goodbye Alice in Wonderland. She actually listened to me and played it. First off she asked how we had knew about the song and I yelled out that it was on her website. Of course she had no idea. Then someone else yelled out bootleg. Jewel thought it was awesome that people bootlegged her stuff. Anyways after playing it it was the song that got the most applause that night besides the famed wwsys. I really think that this song has some great potential for a hit. Also on the other *#*%* forum unedited it says this album is mainly lo-fi. So we'll see.

There is one song called "Words Get In the Way" and shes only played it once, and its supposed to be on the new record. I dont know of any bootleg that has it. She was SUPPOSED to play it at the Cleveland concert, but that was, unfortunatly, the infamous song she forgot to play.
I also have "Again and Again" and I think it would be a bigger hit than Good Day will ever be. Im guessing its gonna be the second single.
I'm lucky, I have to orchestra version.

According to the setlists on her website which are supplied by her vaultmaster Mr.BB, Again & Again is really called You're Always On My Mind. I saw it called Again & Again in some recent press but I'd go with her website. Does anyone have this song to share?[COLOR=blue]

New Wild West, e-mail me privately.
On Unedited, she said it was called "Again & Again", so who knows. Maybe it will be called "Again and Again (Your Always On My Mind)" which is too long of a title anyways. But, I think Again and Again is a better title. It fits the song more. Its really a good song. One of my favorites.

That wasn't at the O-Shaughnessy this July was it? Cuz the same thing happened at that concert. She was surprised that people had heard of it and Good Day. She was funny though because she was like "How do you know the good day song?" and someone, maybe you, yelled out "website" and she was like "I dont think I'm bootlegging my own stuff"
Anyways, that show was an awesome show, don't know if you were there or not, but I was the guy yelling out Carnivore all night till she finally played it

This is what I think the new album will look like:
I think 1000 Miles Away will definitely make it. A Place In The Sun is fantastic, as well as I Belong With You. I think those will definitely make it.
That makes New songs:
1. Goodbye, Alice In Wonderland
2. Good Day
3. Again & Again
4. A Place In The Sun
5. I Belong With You
I believe another new one is If My Heart Were Made of Gold, but I think it pales in comparison. And what about Satisfied? I haven't heard anything about it.
She's also talked a lot about Sometimes It Be That Way, and how she was giving a band sound perhaps for the record. I would put that on the tentative list- she seems like she would really love to place it somewhere, but is also careful and not going to throw it on there just because she loves it. So, who knows.
I think Carnivore will make it if old songs will. Same with Stephenville, TX. She's talked about putting both of those on.
Satellite is probable as well.
So, here's what I think we'll have:
New
1. Goodbye, Alice In Wonderland
2. Good Day
3. Again & Again
4. A Place In The Sun
5. I Belong With You
Old
6. Carnivore
7. Satellite
8. 1000 Miles Away
9. Sometimes It Be That Way
10. Stephenville, TX
With 4 more songs rounding out the album.
Thoughts?

I hope "Where You Are" doesn't get canned. I really liked that song. Much better than Good Day or Again & Again.
Also I think Everything Breaks is going to be on it. And She has confirmed (at least to the best of my knowledge) that Fragile heart is going to be on it, but I know you knew that. Just wanted to let people that didn't know, know.
Sorry for my randomness, I am way too tired.
^I hate Stephenville as well. I dont know if youre talking about the city or the song, but the song is boring as hell. & I love Austin, so I can't say I hate Texas, but they are definetly, as a whole, a red state.

sweet! what row were you?
here's my whole story:
(this was written the day after)
saw Jewel last night (07/21/05) at the O?Shaughnessy Auditorium of the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN.
(skip down for the short list)
The concert was amazing and here are some details from the show:
First off, it was not sold out by any means. I don?t really know what she was expecting though, because she didn?t promote it at all and there is no album out (hence the tour name). The fourth row was almost completely empty. Stupid Unedited probably ?bit off more than they could chew.? Anyways, I got my mom to take my Row L seat and I moved up to Row E, right at the end, but it was good because they?re weren?t heads in front of me and I was really close to the speakers.
joe firstman: opening act
Having only heard Joe Firstman duet with Jewel on their track, ?Everything Reminds Me Of You,? I wasn?t sure what sort of music he did or what not. To my surprise he was amazing live and he actually reminded me of a male version of Jewel. He was acoustic as well, mostly piano, but he did some guitar songs. He sung some songs off his album, ?The War Of Women? including ?Can?t Stop Loving You,? ?Now You?re Gorgeous, Now You?re Gone,? and ?Saving All My Love.? Plus other ones that I didn?t grasp the title of and also some new songs that will be on his upcoming CD. I ended up buying his CD at the end of his set. His songs sound really good with a full band; he?s also amazing solo. I definitely like his voice better live (the CD was recorded in 2002/2003, so naturally his voice has improved). You guys should check out ?Now You?re Gorgeous, Now You?re Gone.? Pretty good song. He says ?fcking? in ?Saving All My Love? and he stopped and ?apologized? since he forgot he was playing on a Catholic campus. It was humorous and gave the audience a good laugh. He was really fun and personable. He played from 8:00 to 8:35 or so.
jewel
The stage was simple. Two guitars. A flower vase on a table. And a microphone. Jewel came on at 8:45.
1. somewhere over the rainbow
Jewel started the concert with an amazing acapella rendition of this song. It was nice to hear, as I have only heard her sing it with a band. However, the song in itself always bored me.
2. near you always
She then went into one of her favorite acoustic concert openers. I love this song and I realized that when she recorded ?Pieces Of You? her register was a lot higher and now it almost sounds like she?s mocking herself and trying really hard to mimic her younger voice, which she does flawlessly, but it?d be nice to hear some of her ?sweeter? songs in a lower register with more tone.
Jewel then took a break and told us she was working on her new album and was going to integrate some new songs into the show. So she went into?
3. a long, slow slide
?I know what some of you are thinking? this isn?t a new song. [At first I thought it was ?The New Wild West,? I?ll have to listen to them and see if their intros sound alike or if I was just on something last night] Sometimes I think Jewel under estimates her fans and thinks we?re stupid. Jewel did say that this was ?probably [her] most autobiographical song.? The lyrics of this song are good, but the melody always sounded drowning.
Jewel then asked for requests. I of course started yelling ?Carnivore? and she heard me and started playing the C9/Em chord transition thing, but then she stopped and someone yelled out?
4. sometimes it be that way
Jewel mentioned that this might be on her new album and went into the whole Bob Dylan story. Even though I?ve heard her tell this story more than once, I still find it funny the way she tells it. Maybe someone here can post an MP3 of it or something cause she?s been telling this story for years and years and tours and tours. Seriously, she should get more material, she has 3 stories that everyone of her shows will feature at least one of: The Hitchhiking story, The Bob Dylan story, & The Drug Bust story. However, she?s an awesome story teller. In short: In a dream, Bob Dylan came onto Jewel while on tour together. Then in reality it started to play out that way, but had a different ending. The funniest part of the story was when she was said ?He?s a great songwriter, but?. Ewww. I love his music, but?.. Ewwww.? Lol. This performance was good, but I?ve heard it enough.
Jewel then asked for requests again and she teased me again as I yelled out ?CARNIVORE? and she played the C9/Em thing again and then she stopped. And I yelled ?You?re already playing the song, why don?t you play the whole thing?? I?m sure she heard me too, because I was really yelling it (kindly of course). She then said that she heard someone say ?Alice In Wonderland.? She then asked how we had heard that song and I yelled out ?INTERNET!? Gosh, Jewel. Duh. Then someone said they heard it on her website and she said that she didn?t think she was bootlegging herself. What she didn?t know, was that they probably just saw the song title on her setlist page (which can be found here). It was funny. Then someone yelled out ?Good Day? and she got even more confused. Anyways, she ended up playing?
5. good day
Great song. I loved it acoustic and I don?t know if I?ll like it as much with a band. She mentioned that she didn?t know how it would sound without her band, which is odd, because it looks like she?s played it at least 5 times in June. Jewel? sometimes? Anyways, this will probably be on the new record and I wish I had a recording on this song and the lyrics as well, but sadly I don?t.
6. (goodbye) alice in wonderland
I put goodbye in parenthesis, because I hope the song isn?t called ?Goodbye, Alice In Wonderland? as it is printed on her website, but whatever. I think I might have been one of the only people in the audience that had heard it. I don?t mean to sound ignorant or nieve, but I was the only one who clapped when I heard the first lyrics, I felt a little stupid. I guess MN isn?t a Jewel hotspot. Anywayz, Jewel has changed the lyrics from the recording I posted a long time ago from her last tour, mildly, but still noticeable, and I don?t think they are has depressing. She also didn?t pluck the beginning, which made me sad, she just strummed the chords. Oh well.
The only ?Spirit? song of the night was:
7. hands
Ugh, I?ve heard this song way too much. It was annoying, because the woman behind me was with her mom or friend or something and she only knew Jewel?s singles, and once it got to the chorus of this song she was like ?Oh I know this song.? And I was so tempted to turn around and go ?Whoop-Dee-Dang-Dong-Doo, so does half of America.? I don?t why that sort of thing bugs me. It just does. Like people pretending they are like these huge fans, yet they only know their singles. Lucky for this woman too because the setlist consisted mainly of singles. It didn?t make it any better that she sang the songs she knew too. I looked over at the person next to me and I could tell she was getting annoyed too, because she would look annoyed when the ?singer? behind us would be louder. You sing at rock concerts, you sing at club concerts, you sing at hip hop concerts. YOU DO NOT SING AT ACOUSTIC QUIET PERFORMANCES!!!
Anyways, Good performance, but like I said I?ve heard it a lot and I missed the piano.
I then yelled out ?Carnivore? again after the song and Jewel played the C9/Em thing and I yelled out ?Thank You.? But then she stopped again and that stupid b!tch behind me yelled out ?Standing Still.? By that time I was ready to punch her. God, I wish I went to a show full of real fans and Jewel played B-Sides and songs she normally doesn?t play acoustic. Anyways, once she heard someone say ?Standing Still,? she said ?Standing Still?? I can play ?Standing Still.?? And so she did?
8. standing still
Singles. Singles. Singles. Not to mention?
9. break me
Probably the lowest part of the concert. This song bores me to tears acoustically. I don?t mind the radio remix, but it?s so dull. Lyrics & all.
But then?
An angel named Jewel heard my call?
10. carnivore
It was funny, because that b**** behind me was getting fed up with me yelling out ?Carnivore? (as I?m sure the rest of the audience was, but that?s what you do at a Jewel concert, especially when Jewel was teasing me with the intro so) and when she realized that she didn?t this song cause Lo & Behold it wasn?t a single, she asked her friend: ?Is THIS ?Carnivore? (in a snotty voice)? And I turned around and gave her a smirk and said ?Yes it is.? Lol, I make myself laugh.
Anyways, this song was flawless. Her voice was amazing. Definitely the highlight of the concert, especially since she played it at my request. I wished the audience was more into it, though. Like on the recording I have when she belts out the one note the audience went wild, but last night they didn?t and I didn?t want to alone. But at the end of the song I heard the woman behind me say something like ?I like that song.? So there, I made a ?Carnivore? fan that night, though I still hate her.
After Jewel was done I yelled out ?Thank You? and she smiled.
11. foolish games
No matter how good the performance, this song is NOT the same without the piano accompaniment. Sorry, but it?s not.
12. stand
I love this acoustic. I love this live.
Jewel then took a break to recite her Zoloft story. Really funny. ?Feeling shy around people I don?t even know or anal leakage?? Lol, you have to hear the whole thing. This is titled ?Social Anxiety Disorder Monologue.?
13. intuition
She replaced ?Ms. J?s? with ?J. Lo?s big butt is boss? like she did last tour. Pretty good, but unlike Stand, I think this song craves the pop machine behind it. It?s not that good acoustic.
Jewel then asked for some chewing gum from the audience and the guy that gave it to her had a video camera and it was funny because Jewel was like ?Thanks for the gum, and by the way NICE VIDEO CAMERA!? Then the audience was like ?take it away!? Lol, it was odd.
Jewel then welcomed one of her close friend and sometimes-guitarist Steve Poltz to the stage. He was in Minneapolis/St. Paul for a show tonight (7/22/05) and Jewel had him come out with her. I thought it was going to be Joe Firstman and I thought they were gonna do ?Everything Reminds Me Of You,? but they didn?t. Most of you Jewel fans know who he is, if you don?t, watch A Life Uncommon, he?s on there a lot. Anyways, they talked about how he helped her out with her career and they went into:
14. i thought i saw you last night
I was kind of hoping for ?Old Lover?s House? But I have never heard this song before so it was all good. Sort of boring song, definetly a Jewel/Poltz collaboration.
Jewel then did the unthinkable?. She left?. She left us alone with him.
Ugh, he then did a song about if he had had a medical career. It was hokey and stupid. His voice was pretty bad too.
Jewel then came back and they did the ?[Extended] Mexico Story? aka ?The Drug Bust Story.? It was funny, and they added more detail to it since both of them were there. And then of course they went into?
15. you were meant for me
it was cool because they switched on and off. Jewel did the first verse and then he sang harmonies on the first chorus and then he did the second verse and then she came back and he did harmonies on the second chorus and she sang the bridge and she did harmonies on the rest of the choruses.
Then he left.
Jewel thanked us for coming and ?ended? with:
16. who will save your soul?
She did the Kermit The Frog monologue before this, which was funny, because it?s good to know she has a sense of humor about herself. Good performance, but I much prefer this song with the band.
She left. We stood. We clapped. She came back.
17. per la gloria d?adorarvi
acapella. She hit a bad note at the end, when she was going up on ?Penero, V?amero? I don?t know if on purpose, but it sounded really bad. I actually cringed. But otherwise, good.
The she yodeled:
18. chime bells
Acapella though. Which I found odd because I know she can play it on guitar. But I guess this allowed her to go faster.
Then she left and the lights came on.
It was a really good concert. She looked amazing (I will post pictures when I get them back). Merchandise sucked. It was basically all old tour stuff (except for the Instant Live CDs, which I was hoping for) except for like one new shirt. Anyways, I wish she did a little less singles and a lot more new stuff, but it was nice to hear one new song ?Good Day.? The Poltz thing annoyed me. She left at around 10:35. So she played/talked for almost 2 hours.
Great concert. Wish I could go to another one this summer, but I?m broke.
Hopefully some of you might be able to go to one, because she?s amazing.
Here?s the short list:
1. somewhere over the rainbow (acapella)
2. near you always
3. a long, slow slide
4. sometimes it be that way
5. good day
6. alice in wonderland
7. hands
8. standing still
9. break me
10. carnivore (at my request)
11. foolish games
12. stand
social anxiety disorder monologue
13. intuition
steve poltz introduction/?foolish games? in las vegas story
14. i thought i saw you last night (w/poltz)
steve poltz solo song
extended mexico story/drug bust story
15. you were meant for me (w/poltz)
kermit the frog monologue
16. who will save your soul
encore
17. per la gloria d?adorarvi (acapella)
18. chime bells (acapella)
Speculations for new album:
Alice In Wonderland will definitely be on the album. Jewel made it sound like Good Day also will be on the album. Sometimes It Be That Way & A Long Slow Slide also may make the cut. Which sort of sucks, because they were both B-Sides for ?This Way.? But maybe with a band, they?ll be better. I?m hoping A Place In The Sun is remembered. Anyways, it sounds like it?s gonna be half old songs and half new songs.
We shall see.
This post was long and random, but hopefully informative.
Jewel love.
