well, i can see why you may say ashlee simpson...but she actually does sing sometimes....and i think her excuse was great - i'd hate to have to come up with an excuse for something like that....many artists now sing to backups anyways....i'm not sure if our jewelie girl has yet....but whatever...

britney spears...(though i like her last album, but she lips it - great dancer though)
christina aguilera...(i caught her lipping on ......holiday parade myself...i don't remember anyone catching it...but how could you not, she was up close!!!)
avril lavigne - she's too annoying anymore, first album singles were good though, but she's a freak!
destiny's child/beyonce - they need to be gone NOW!
eminem... - the guy is an ***
J-LO - tries to hard and all of her songs are pretty much remixes
Alicia Keys - ok, so her first album singles were great, but the last stuff doesn't deserve the grammy... oh well, i like her, but i just really don't like her right now b/c of that comparing to the fact of how jewel hasn't ever received one.... but i guess some others that receive grammy's are way worse...like le ann rhymes.....b***H for stealing jewel's grammy! :omg: :devil1: :bang: :shock:

Look, Britney Spears has a Grammy. Beyonc? has eight. Jewel has zero, even before 0304. Strangely enough, Hilary Duff does not yet have one. The quality of music has gone so low lately that they have to hand out Grammys to these talentless people (and not hand them out to people with a potential amount of talent).

Madonna? Now I am surprised to see that on anyones list of artists they don't like.

Personally, I don't like anything pop. Which rules out most of mainstream music, boy bands and the like.

This may sound harsh but I think britney needs a good slap to knock some sense into her. She needs some. And Jessica Simpson has got to me on my list.

Because I don't pay any attention to artists I don't like, I can't think of any at the moment but when I do....you'll be sure I'll post them here.

Gee, I like how 3 artists I enjoy are mentioned already. :P

Ashlee- I know she's not punk, but her album is really good. I don't care if she's pop and I don't care how she sings live, if the music is good then I'll listen to it.

Avril- I also know she's not punk, but her new album does have more of an edge to it. Yes, it still has pop elements, but not as much as "Let Go". I also don't care how she sings live.

Eminem- I already knew most people don't like him, but no matter what you think of rap you can't deny that he has talent. He is offensive at times, but of all the songs on his albums there is still just one song I can't listen to, and that's "Drips". I love the beat and the chorus, but the lyrics are just too much for me.
As a side note, I can't wait to see his video for Mockingbird. Premieres on Monday! :D


As for artists I don't particularly like, they are:

-Nelly- Ick, just ick. His new song with Tim McGraw sucks also.
-50 Cent
-John Mayer- Never have liked him. I do like his song "Daughters", but the way he sings is annoying.
-Lindsay Lohan
-Ashanti
-Good Charlotte- I used to like their songs "Little Things" and "Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous", but now I'm just sick of them.

Nirvana is grunge, not punk.

I used to love them when they first came out (and I still like them), but now I'm sick of hearing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" all the time. It's basically a great song that's been overplayed too many times. I love their other songs though. :)

lol@micheal, actually, no this thing isnt a dell, it started out as a compaq, when that quit it was supplemented with bits of other computers, and now its a compu-gateway mutt that will be replaced in the very near future--(not that anyone particularly cares about my computer :) )

There was a time when musicians created and expressed themselves in their music and it became popular on its own merit. Today it seems to me that the music industry and media ram the new stuff down the throats of the youth of the world and convince them that to be popular thay MUST like it.The American & UK pop Idol series is proof of that. No more does a band or artist have to work their way from obscurity to fame. They just need a hook be it exposing the majority of their flesh,exploiting the harshness of inner city impoverished life or appealing to those that feel they do not fit into the mainstream of society.Just SOME of the new music I find quite good, variety is a wonderous thing, but crap is crap,and theres more of it about today...

I tend toward classic rock/metal and the likes of black metal. I enjoy Classical from Mozart and Bach etc.I dont care for the hip hop stuff and the whole Britney and her clone things rubbish. I bloody hate rap. Rap is not music! so you could say i hate most modern tripe!?
I guess you could say that I believe music was better years ago. Look at the longevity of artist's like ,Maiden, The Stones, Aerosmith, The Eagles, Styx, their stuff is timeless,and the era of Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zepplin...will live forever!!! How many of todays music stars will prove to be marketable in 20 years? Only time will tell.
Most producers have ran out of ideas.
Rock is just re runs of old sounds, hip hop is progressing into a sad pop scene and the pop scene itself is a joke to music.... :( thats just my opinion tho....

aye i hear what yer sayin, just some of the individual songs stand out from certain bands or artists as greats even if you dont like the rest of their tunes! and ELP were fantastic also, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Hawkwind, Lynard Skynard, The Police and countless others rock and early pop are just never ever gonna be forgotten about and in 10-20 years time most of todays pathetic musicians will be forgotten about!!! Dont get me wrong tho...the likes of Radiohead, Cold Play, The Verve, if you know of them people? (could'nt think of any American ones, Sorry!)there gonna go down in history as classic bands along with there great music.

But my point of view is virtually identical.

I'm saying this as I'm importing some ELP into iTunes here. The majority of my taste is in folk, classical, blues, jazz and country with a small amount of 70s and 80s music as well as some of today's. Though I can't understand the attraction to distortion, as in metal, one group whose vocals have impressed me is Evanescence.

I can spot talent and a good song with no difficulty. But it's very much like a desert these days.

For 24 years I've been playing my bass, looking for a "break". I'm very good technically but I'm not "idol" material so apparently I don't count - me and countless thousands like me.

I'm just about ready to give up. My degree in electronics engineering isn't worth much when so much is disposable these days. So I've been considering returning to school. I'd like to learn flying, to get a commercial or instructor rating.
