Any one got the general chords to 1000 miles away. I can find tabs but not the lyrics with the chords. I am not a very good guitar player so I need all the help I can get?

i think i know which tabs you're talking about, but really if I told you the chords it wouldn't sound that good.
The verses are just e/d (XX2012) and D (XX0212) and the chorus' are just C and G. Not much to it.

Thanks, I'll give it a go. But I am nearly certain I was doing that but it just didn't sound right. Should the capo be used at all?

I don't think she uses a capo, lol, she does for almost every other song though!

Yeah, those are the tabs, just play around with them, forget using a pick, and try to sound it out, it's a really good one.

Oh god, what do i do?
I'm a thousand miles away, and I'm lying next to you.
verse:
The sun shines golden, and I feel like my car
A little run down, a little beat up, maybe just a little green
Maybe it's my battery, maybe it's my starter,
Maybe my heart's too weak
There's just this feeling, thought I had to get going
Got too scary, got too big, got to get out of here
But now i don't know how to get home.
chorus:
Oh god, what do I do?
I'm a thousand miles away, and lying next to you.
verse:
Mama says take my vitamins,
Daddy says "girl, don't stay out so late"
Sister says "there's other fishes in the sea"
But love is not a rational thing, and my heart is beyond advice
No, love is not a rational thing
chorus:
Oh god, what do I do?
I'm a thousand miles away, and lying next to you.
verse:
These fields stretch out like patchwork, on my granny's quilt
She used to tell me that
"Life is a series of strange and mysterious things
One minute you think you're up, the next you find you're down"
Your mind says "girl, you gotta stick around"
But your heart says "I'm too weak in the knees"
chorus:
Oh god, what do I do?
I'm a thousand miles away,
I said, oh god, what do I do?
I'm a thousand miles away and lying next to you.

Great thanks. They seem to work really well. Can't pick them though. Useless at that but it still sounds different slightly strummed in a good-different way. If that makes sense.
Thanks everyone.

I have been toying with this as well and watched Jewel perform this in concert. This is one of those songs where she puts pauses in her guitar playing , stops and starts within the lyrics. I really does come down to listening to exactly what she's playing on the acoustic versions if you want to get that 'Jewel' feel. However, playing the chords, pausing at the appropriate places and fingerpicking the strings in the chord that you are playing gives a nice feel too, just not the same, you know? It would be lovely if one of the videos of Jewel playing this showed her full body the whole time and we could zoom in on the fingering -- I paid $400 for two tickets to her GAIW concert so I could watch where she puts her fingers on the fretboard. Am I crazy or what?? :)
Little Bird, I think fingerpicking is one of the hardest aspects of guitar to learn and then trying to sing at the same time? EEESH! Songs like "Moon over Austin", I can play but then I try to sing it and it's like walking and chewing gum to me. So this summer, I decided I was going to practice the mechanics of fingerpicking for a short period each day, then I was going to play what I want, working on rhythm etc and simply 'feeling' the beat. Sounds so cliche but know what? When I let go of the mechanics, I grew immensely. Putting down my pick was absoutely essential in this process. I needed my fingers on the strings in order to get it. Now I can both pick and finger strum which to me is big.
Also, don't worry about getting it perfect. My transcription of "My Valentine" is probably not exact. I know the chords are about right but I also know that he fingerpicks the whole song while I do a combination of fingerpicking and strumming. Therefore, the version is slightly different. I never thought I could sing a song and then find the chords for it, but it was MUCH easier then I thought (Thank you Kyle for the encouragement). I can sing and strum and know exactly when a chord change should occur and when I should use an add9 or a 7th version of the chord. It just 'sounds' right. The key is trust your instincts and not be afraid to make as many mistakes as it takes. This was hard for me, being a science geek so if I can do it, so can you!

It's easier than you think.
The numbers refer to where on the fret board you place your finger and on which string is picked. So for Example. The first chord is:
-2- (finger on the second fret)
---
---
-2- (finger on the second fret)
---
---
And basically, you pluck those 2 strings at the same time.
But if you ever wanted a little know how, this is a good link (http://guitarsecrets.com/tablature.htm)

I've just realised that I'm not familiar with these lyrics from this song. I have many versions of this song and I know none of them have these lyrics.
Just when you think you know all the lyrics to a Jewel song, you find yet another alternative out there.
Anyone else come across these lyrics in their versions?
