What meal would you cook for her?

Let's just assume she lands on your doorstep out of the blue and invites herself to dinner. You only have the usual things in stock...what do you do?

Have no idea why at 8am this pops into my head but hey, I have stopped asking questions about my oddness in the morning so just looking forward to your responses.

:)

forget about cooking, LETS GO TO KFC!!!!

OFF TOPIC FACT (OTF) - KFC is no longer allowed to call themselves Kentucky Fried Chicken because of the way they kill their chickens. Funny huh?

That just doesn't make sense...but good suggestion nonetheless. Mmmmm KFC!

well my favorite low-fuss meal is lemon/garlic/tarragon roast chicken--yum, sooo good! with a nice fresh salad and some warm crusty fresh baked bread
some blueberry crisp is a yummy dessert too...

ok, now i am hungry, thanks kiera! :P

I really have no clue. But I'm not a great cook, anyway....

KFC sounds good to me...

...I thought the reason that Kentucky Fried Chicken was rebranded to KFC was..
A) because it's shorter to say
and mainly because
B) the word "Fried" implies it's unhealthy (which it is - but yummy!) whereas KFC hides the frying ;)

Anyway - if not KFC, traditional British beans on toast or boiled egg with soliders

Just been googling and KFC also changed their name to emphasise the variety of food on the menu:
http://www.lava.net/~higak/chain/food/kfc.htm

...but the "F" word was the main reason they rebranded... and apparently, they're thinking of changing back to Kentucky Fried Chicken :D

Mmmm, i wanna tower burger!

when i think of KFC - i say KFC - or KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN - everyone should know what the initials mean anyhow - so i guess it doesn't matter to me what it's called - as long as they serve good food - they'll continue to conquer the chicken world - though i think DQ (aka dairy queen) makes better chicken with their chicken strips (i used to cook them when i was a cook in high school for DAIRY QUEEN) - it's amazing how everyone thinks we only have ice cream - a lot of our most popular items are the hot foods we sell like the chicken strip basket b/c it's OH SO GOOD!!!!! btw - DQ has a commercial on tv lately advertising new chicken baskets - and the fact DQ has been doing chicken strips the same way since 20 years ago!

BACK ON TOPIC since this thread lead to a KFC moment lol -
If i had jewel over for dinner - i'd hire a world famous chef to cook the meal - or maybe i'd ask for jewel's preferance first - u know maybe she's sick of fancy food and just wants a home cooked meal once in awhile - in that case - better hit the recipe books and hope for the best!

You are most welcome. Made me get all peckish too. I'm sure Jewel would approve of that. Sounds simple, but posh enough for Jewel!

That is more along the line of what I am curious about. You can't get someone else to cook it, it's cheating.

Just think of a meal you would 'prepare' for yourself on a normal day to day basis and then think...which one is good enough for Jewel. She has turned up unannounced remember so you wouldn't really have had to time to prepare or go to the shops.

I knew the solider reference wouldn't cross the pond ;)... it's one of our silly British terms - "soldiers" are basically slices of buttered bread cut into strips which you then dip in your boiled egg.

Don't ask....

And Kiera - yep, no frills in my household - she'll get what she's given :P

I would make some tacos with Jewel. They're easy and fun. That or anything BBQ'd would do fine i think. For dessert I would say some strawberry shortcakes with whipped cream or we can grab some Carvel form the coner of my house. THough I owndre of Jewel has had some Puerto Rican cuisine? :dunno: I'll have my Mom cook in that scenerio.

Yum Yum YUMMMMMMM.

I adore that! Can you make it for me? Promise I'll love it!

Ya know what you just can't get in Ireland? Proper Belgian waffles. I used to work in a Library in Dublin City centre and there was a great American coffee shop called 'North American Grind', they made the most perfect waffles served with all sorts but my fave was the maple syrup. Oh I just melt at the thought. I would often take the 1 hour trip into the city just to get some, long after I stopped working in the library, just as a treat. But sadly, they have closed and moved back to America. :)

OH HOW I MISS WAFFLES!

You know I would cook something that I love myself :)
Because I'd want her to share something of mine
She writes music and hopes that people like it and I would produce something that I love and hope that she would :agree:

I saw this and couldn't resist as I'm a bit picky about my fofd 9comes from being a bachelor).

An average meal if Jewel dropped in, well, first I'd have to get out the copper saucepan and heat it up with plenty of real chruned butter from the produce market down the road.

I would naturally cook my favourite meal which is always stocked heavily in the refrigerator. All I need is eggs, bangers, and champagne (Bollinger RD) which I usually keep a bottle or two in the cabinet for special occasions.

Scrambled Eggs James Bond

For two individualists:
8 fresh eggs
Salt and pepper (to taste)
5-6 oz. of fresh butter.
Break the eggs into a bowl. Beat thoroughly with a fork and season well. In a small copper (or heavy bottomed saucepan) melt four oz. of the butter. When melted, pour in the eggs and cook over a very low heat, whisking continuously with a small egg whisk.
While the eggs are slightly more moist than you would wish for eating, remove the pan from heat, add rest of butter and continue whisking for half a minute, adding the while finely chopped chives or fines herbes if desired.

Serve on hot buttered toast (whole wheat, not white and most certianly not rye!) in individual copper dishes (for appearance only) with sauce bernaise and little sausage links or bacon (whichever i've got in the refrigerator, not sure right now), and pink champagne (Bollinger RD either 89 or 95) and low music (Preferrably 'La Vie En Rose', as it is only sutiable for the company of a lady).

Should champagne be unavailable, I would entice her with either vodka straight (Stolichnaya or Smirnoff only) or a good gin and tonic (Gordons or Tanqueray only).

OH, yeah, I almost forgot, if she wanted something to take home with her, I'd make one of my favourite desserts. It's easy, too. I call them 'Honey Biscuits'.

All you need is a box of 'drop biscuit' mix, a jar of honey and some REAL maple syrup, along with cinnamon if you're into that kinda thing.

Mix the powder from the drop bisuits into a fine batter and then combine hte maple syrup FIRST, then he honey SECOND! After that, 'drop them' onto a large flat pan and put into the oven and cook until golden brown and THEN ONLY IF YOU WANT TO, add a pinch of cinnamon.

It tastes, great and lasts for days if you don't eat them all first. It's like a heart attack in a biscuit, but they're worth it!

jewel: *knock knock*
me: *opens door* OMG JEWEL hi!
jewel: hi, my car broke down. i need a place to stay.
me: OMG stay here! stay here! oh, and could you play a song? and sign my guitar? and sign pieces of you? and spirit? and this way? and goodbye alice in wonderland? and sign the poster of you in bedroom? and my end table? and my ceiling fan -?
jewel: i'm hunnnnngryyyyyy.
me: o right ok. um.... hey, you like cookie crisp cereal? :P

I'd make these poatoes I have a recipe for... it involves potatoes, sour cream and jalapeno peppers... they are awesome. You scrape out the jalapeno peppers and then like mash up the potatoes with sour cream and jalappeno pieces and then fill the jalapeno peels or skins or whatever with the potatoes and then bake them in the oven.... they are awesome. And probably some parmesan chicken... where you coat chicken with parmesan with chili powder and bake it like that.... it's simple and tastes awesome..

Grilled salmon or halibut from Alaska of course, roasted potatoes and salad, maybe home made rolls if I feel up to it, and an apple or peach pie for dessert, I make great pies from scratch. And yeah her and the kids are so going to have a karoke contest on the playstation.

Im alll about the salmon but If Jewel came to my door the first thing on my mind surely would not be food.
I don't care to cook. I will call one of my lesbians that likes to cook maybe Rachel Ray. Although i have a strong dislike for rachel ray.

I would pop open a bottle of red wine, have salsa and chips, fire up the grill and smoke some ribs, and then smother a hickory bbq sauce on them. While the ribs smoke (takes a couple hours) I would show Jewel my guitar collection and ask what she would like to do after dinner, a movie? go to the bowling alley? etc. I wouldn't ask her to play guitar and sing for*me because she's probably tired of that. I would think that she would want to give her hands and voice a break since it seems like she's always doing an important gig. Wow, I wish this could come true!!!!!!!

:omg: You guys really have the weirdest topics!!
But I love the idea of having a hungry Jewel knocking on my door .. after I have recovered from having fainted I would make her a simple but delicious traditional dish from where I live.
I have this in the freezer at all times for it is just so yummy and so easy.
Anyway .. it is reindeer kebab served in a pita bread with lingonberry-jelly on the side.
Ooh yeah .. and for desert I would fix some vanilla icecream with a warm cloudberry topping. Hmmmm ... too good for words!!!
And now I am hungry too!! :thanx:

Well, I will offer her our famous chicken and pork adobo, spring rolls and I will serve her our native delicacies and desserts like halo-halo , maja blanco and rice cake.

Then maybe we could talk about her writing poems or anything about arts. Talking about it, I had a dream the last time. I was sitting beside Jewel, and I could not even say a word. My mind was jumbling with words. In my dreams, I couldn't believe( I was lost with words). It was as if my tongue were tongue-cuff. Not a word came out of my mouth, until Jewel left.:(

Haha .. I once took a photo with her after her concert in London 2002 .. I was like totally blank in my head .. OMG I am standing next to Jewel .. the only thing I could think of to say .. with a very tiny voice was "I really loved your show!" and she said *Thank you"
But ofcourse it will be totally different when she is in my home .. then I will be able to be cool and friendly and nice and chatty *LOL*
