Just got my new Creative Zen 60GB Nomad MP3 player and LOVE IT!!!!
After uploading as much of my CD collection as possible, I have come across loads of artists I haven't heard in a while that I just adore listening to. So methinks, I'll make some suggestions to the JKF! I think we have done this before but I couldn't find the thread before my patience ran out so made a new one.
Here are some of my fave recommended artists:
Damien Rice (love him, love him LOVE HIM! not as much as Jewel though)
Jeff Buckley
Enigma - Specifically the Cross of Changes album
Bjork - Post album
There just a couple I have forgotten about until today. Let us all know your suggestions
Take care

I've got my 60GB iPod Photo going now at work - and I love it to bits too! :) Got 9,400-odd songs on it with space for about 3500 or so still!! The entirety of my albums (bar a few crappy ones that weren't worth putting on!) are on there, and I'm going through my singles putting those on which have bonus tracks/b-sides etc. Am up to "T" with the singles!
Now playing for me (on shuffle) is Sia - Breathe Me from the album Colour The Small One... Sia is fab, lovely voice (but an aquired taste), haunting vocals she's got, and great live too!
Recent favourites - old and new - I've played include Jason Mraz, Corrs, Frou Frou (fab album!!), Missy Higgins, The Storys, Brooke Fraser, Polly Paulusma and good ol' Avril!
How are you finding the Zen then, Kiera? It looks interesting from the photo I've seen, but I was a sucker for the iPod and went for that... had mine about 4 months now :) Paid ?309, and they're ?299 from Apple now so I can live with that! Bought an iSkin wildsides skin in blue which turns some heads on the train, hehe B)
I just LOVE having all my music collection with me all the time... and playing it on Shuffle all is fab too!

Well I weighed up the pros and cons with both the Zen Xtra and the iPod photo as they were my choices. I found the Zen offered more and much better battery power. Though it was a close call between the 2 so nothing against the Apple. However, I do think the one you have is the only real decent one. I do think all the others are over rated and sell off the Apple name. I have always prefered Creative but when Apple brought out the iPod Photo 60GB, I really was torn for a bit.
Got mine for only ?152 on eBay, brand new, unopened in the box direct from the US. They sell for at least ?350 here which is about ?250 so I made a good saving.
I don't have my entire collection on yet. I still need to upload all of Peter's music too. There's only about 7GB used on it so far and I have way more to put on from my PC. All the Jewel stuff is about 2GB worth on it's own!!!

Yep I agree with what you say about Apple - I didn't even consider a mini or a smaller size iPod... as it is, no other size would've done anyway :) The battery life is pretty good on mine... I reckon it's about 10-11 hrs after a full charge - depending on whether you flick around and select tracks or not!
I'd been toying with the idea of having an iPod for ages and when the 60Gb came out with a colour screen I thought - I want one of those!!
Probably could've got it cheaper on eBay but in the end getting it from Apple direct was a good idea as my 1st one was faulty and it made exchanging it unbelieveably simple - I had a replacement the next day after I reported it faulty!! :)

Well that battery life is a vast improvement on all the other iPod's. Peter has a Zen too. Same one as mine. He gets about 14-18 hours on his depending on what he's doing but they are very close. Plus the colour screen on the iPod is a real bonus. Would love that.
NTW - seeing as you have mentioned her a couple of times, who is Sia. Your the first person to ever mention her to me. No clue who she is but am interested to know more!

It is an improvement, yep... still, I reckon 11 is the absolute maximum I'd get from it. Not bad though I guess when you think that there's a 60GB hard drive whizzing round in there :D I love the colour screen on the iPod :) Looks so much more fancy GUI-wise compared to the LCD ones too :D Will have to actually put some photos on it when I can be bothered!!
As to Sia... she's done vocals for Zero 7 ("Destiny" from Simple Things is her vocals) but is very much an artist in her own right... definitely a love it or hate it voice though I think. You can stream the entirety of her second album from http://www.siamusic.net :) Breathe Me, Church of What's Happening Now and Numb are my faves from that album... and I bet if you were played "Taken For Granted" from her first album, Healing is Difficult, you'd recognise it :)

Hope yer havin fun with yer new mp3 player ;) im gonna get me one of those one of these days!!!
Anyway...please may i recommend an artist to you that you have just got to, well..maybe like there called 'Anathema' there kinda alternative soft rock give a couple of there songs a go and see what you think:: try 'Electricity' from there 'Natural Disaster' album, or 'Don't Look Too Far' 'Make It Right (F.F.S.)' both from the 'Judgement' album. I do remember you saying you like a lil bit of rock in yer life from time to time, give em a go and see what you think (if you can get them on there that is) if you hate them...then knock me on the head, cover me with mustard & honey and bake me in the oven for 45 min...lol  :P

I've heard of Anathema. I found out about them around the same time I discovered the excellent music of Rammstein. Must look them up again.
And yes, I really am LOVING my Zen. Take it everywhere I go now. Nothing is boring.
I do remember liking what I heard of Anathema though I couldn't say what I heard. Can I still then knock you on the head, cover you with mustard & honey and bake you in the oven for 45 min? Just to see what happens!

Glad you're loving your Zen, Kiera... cool name, I'll give it that. Will have to compare if we end up crossing paths in September!
Got my iPod on "shuffle all" (as I now like to do!) and it's picked out The Way by Fastball... which as I'm sure you'll all know features a very very brief snippet of "Foolish Games" at the start where you hear the radio being flicked through :D

A Zen for a Buddhist of course!!!
I had mine on shuffle for a few days too. I came across loads of stuff I forgot I had...Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Alice in Chains even some old Metallica albums I hadn't listened to in years. Even Rammstein that I hadn't listened to in about a year and Queen of the Stone Age oh and Gomez. What have I been listening to in the past year that I have missed these in so long?

you know, all this talk about ipods and zens and gadgety doo-dads only drives home the fact that i am in the technological dark ages!
i dont have cable, or a digital satellite phone that makes me dinner, i dont have 5 trillion songs on some little device, heck i am using slow as snails dial up
:P if i had a cel phone it would be searching for signal, how lame is that?

I thought Zen was Buddhist term but wasn't entirely sure and didn't want to post and look like an idiot :D
Eibhlin - Kiera and I are technophiles, it has to be said :D Although I haven't got broadband, still on dial up too. However, I do have my 60Gb iPod, my Sky+ (digital satellite with built in PVR... the 2nd best thing ever!), my 7610 phone (which I do like too)... and then there's my 32" TV, Sony 5.1 surround sound system, Sony SACD Deck, Sony DVD, Sony VCR, PS2 set-up... but we won't go into that :P I do love my tecnology, hehe. My computer at home is acutally really dated though (about 500Mhz) as I use it for the internet and that's about it.
"The Way" is a darn good song... am going to listen to Train's album in a mo

Hey guys I didn't read the whole thread but I figured I'll add another group to the list
I got Appetite for Distraction from a friend (Guns N Roses) and though I don't absolutely love the whole album I've been missing out
It has gems like "It's so easy" (I love it) of course "Welcome to the Jungle" of course "Sweet Child o' Mine" but also "My Michelle"
If you have a chance get this album.. many of the songs are fantastic
Even if you're not a guns n' roses fan you'll probably still enjoy this album
By the way doyouwanttoplay I wasn't here when you started posting but I just wanted to say hello ^_^ I guess the others know you maybe from other boards or the old one but I don't  so I'm really glad you joined this one
Nice meeting you- you seem like the best kind of addition to this one

My suggestions :dunno: My dreamy suggestions for a portable mp3 device as an ipod would be Jewel of course (Specially Spirit, that is my favorite album from her works this far) all Cafe del Mar compilations, Goldfrapp, Enigma, B-Tribe, Govinda, Operatica, Delerium, Paul Schwartz, Bonobo, Royksopp, Telepomusik, Hooverphonic, Emiliana Torrini, Sarah Brightman, Schiller, Everything but the Girl, Tosca, Thievery corporation, Bent, Gregorian Masters of Chant, Lesiem, Pilgrimage, Mark and Rae, Cathy Battistessas's colaborations, Conjure One, Chris Coco, Medieval Baebes, Afterlife, all Pure Moods compilations, Jens Gad's Solo albums (Included Enigmatic Obsession that didn't receive the proper publicity), etcetera, etcetera, uff... I would make my Ipod explode with all the good music I would like to stuff into it. Well... the list could go on and on, but that just a sign of a lot of good music around us... discovering is our task! ^_^ :)

Agree about Jens Gad. Bit like Jewel really about the publicity. I am Jewel would be much more widely known had she the marketing backing promting her. Especially in Europe. It's the same with Jens Gad. So misunderstood and undervalued....well at least he is very much valued by you and me.
