how many of us are inked...and what are your tattoos?
my first tat is one i designed of two horse heads in sort of a ying-yangy m.c. escherish type design on my left ankle
the other one is a sort ot tribla flower on my right hand near my thumb, that was to cover up a really lousy attempt at a cross done with a sewing needle and india ink--i dont recommend you try it :P
i want to get a couple others, but havent worked out the designs yet
I've never wanted a tattoo and I probably never will get one.

I have Gianfranco Zola on my arm, not that most of you will know who he is, If and when you know about Chelsea FC you will know we sing a song that goes 'zola la la la la zola' to the same tune as Lola by the Kinks....anyway, i think you get the drift lol. To describe the tatoo, hmmm, i think its easier to post a pic.
http://www.bluediamonddesign.co.uk/tatoo.jpg
Im getting 'JK' on my left arm in the summer, but it dosent stand for Jewel Kilcher. When its done i will show that one too.
Anyway, Andrea - we should start a tatoo gallery, what do you think?

I will no doubt get a tat one day but I have to really know what I want so I won't get one until I know for certain. It will no doubt be something that represents Buddhism. I have thought about a lotus flower or a Buddhist symbol but I am fussy about which kind. When I do get it, it will be small and placed just on the front of my hip. I don't want it in plain sight, just something for me.
Love the idea of your JK tattoo Dave. I think it is a wonderful idea and I know the reason behind it. It is a lovely one actually. Can't wait to see it.

I want to get a rooster hanging in a noose in the inside of my knee is there a special reason for that one, i have never seen one like that! all i can think of is the Alice in Chains song...
i really want to get a turtle on my hip, and i think i finally found the turtle i want...this all stems from a Thanks To Gravity song where a line goes: "...there's a turtle on ym groin and a bounty on my head..."
lol, that Zola tat explains alot, i guess that is the La la la la origin eh there? ya, we should post some pics of our tats as long as they are in places appropriate for children to see! dont need my girls seeing any nasties!
lotus flowers are so pretty, that will be an awesome tat, i designed a really cool shield with lotuses on it, but ended up using my horse shield after all...
i love how tattoos are as diverse as the people who have them, and there can be so much meaning behind them

Aye it is i suppose a little bit metallica-ish...lol,definatly NOT music wise tho thats for sure!!! but thats another story.
...I just remembered alot of people are getting Tattoo's of Elven Tengwar writing for example its the writing written on the 'One Ring of Power' (lord of the rings) speaking the dark tongue of Lord Sauron it says "Ash nazg durbatul?k, ash nazg gimbatul
ash nazg thrakatul?k, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul" it means "One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them" id love to have this done on my back!!! would look excellent i think,it looks like this:

Hey Eibhlin,
I just had a question...When you did that tatoo with India Ink and a sewing needle, did it fade away after a while, or become less visible, and if so how long did it take? Thanks..
BTW.. dont ask why I asked that... lol...

Yeah same here :D  i'v always been into the mordor side of things myself, liking all the Isengard and Mount Doom,Orc armie banners and stuff.
But the Rohan banners and detailed design's are just beautiful i think, all so Celtic and Viking looking, some good stuff there to look for if you want any tattoo idea's ;)

:P When you did that tatoo with India Ink and a sewing needle, did it fade away after a while, or become less visible, and if so how long did it take? Thanks..
umm, well the one i did on my toe faded, but that was mainly i think because-thank god-i didnt get the ink in deep enough, the one i had on my hand didnt completely set for the same reason--not inking deep enough, but the parts that i did far enough under the skin were still there when i had it covered several years later...so if you plan to do one that way, make sure it is somewhere you can hide it, unless you are very good at it
as for LOTR, i have always been more for the elves and rohan side because the elves have such wonderful clothing (great ideas for medieval re-enacting) and the rohans have all the horses and the celtic/viking designs, plus i really like eowyns clothes,
have you ever read The Dark Tower series by Stephen King? it has the same type of idea to it as the LOTR, i love it, those are my two favorite series

No i have'nt read those, never been a Stephen King fan meself, but i know of the book's you speak of,must say they look tempting....if you can convince me more,i miiiiight turn and make a move on them :P
besides i'v only ever read the lord of the rings series and the hobbit, and not to long ago the book on Arda! thats all about Saurons rise into darkness, the orc's Shagrat,Gorbag and Azog and the middle earth wars and what have you :)

ohhh dude, you should really give the dark tower series a shot, i dont think you would regret it. i am also an avid king fan, but this series isnt quite the same as his other books, it's nt a horror type, more of an epic quest type like LOTR. since i have been reading it again, it really puts in my mind the idea of getting a rose tattoo... :dunno: :read: but i will have to work out something more interesting than just a rose-rose

so here is a question for all of you::
~What is the coolest/most meaningful tattoo you have seen?
i think one that meant the most to me was this one my uncle Eric had, it was on his chest and it was a picture of me when i was little and my great grandfather and we were toasting, i think it said cheers under the pic, but i don't remember. it always meant alot to me that he had that done, he died of cancer the year before last.

Actually, talking about tattoos and Jewel ones, I always liked her Higher Ground for Humanity symbol. Jewel used to use the centre flower on her original official site oh so long ago now (when it was excellent).
Perhaps I could get something like that as both a tribute to Jewel and something that is very pretty
Eibhlin
07-31-2005, 06:44 PM
now that is a cool symbol, btw, i had an idea for a lotus blossom i had been meaning to draw out for ya, unless you had one picked out that is
of course now that i have mentioned it, i will prpbably never actually get around to it, thats just how it works it seems!
nope marc, i am just not that obsessive i guess! i almost got a Grateful Dead inspired tat, i drew out a really cool design for the song China-Cat Sunflower, it is a sunflower with a cat face worked into the middle where the seeds are, it was pretty neat!
but, i wouldnt ever get a tat depicting a band name, you never know when you may decide you dont like them!

U know what really pisses me off, is people who get religious tattooes b/c they like how they look, it makes me so sick. (It's right up there w/ those christmas-celebrating athiests) Anyway this dude at work got this really detailed Jesus picture on his leg and I was like why this guy gets drunk like every night and cusses like a damn sailer... I know I shouldn't judge and I don't know how he is outside of what I see, but still.....
or thugs who have jesus on the cross (another guy I work with) (yes Chris the THIS BIG MONSTER guy)..... or people who get a cross on each arm just to flex their muscles... makes me want to puke. I used to want a cross tattoo really bad b4 I noticed everyone else on earth has one, christian or not... (Christie that wasnt directed at you btw your post just made me think about that guy @ work)

ok my friend from work asked me to go get a tattoo with him next week and I want to go get one, I know you aren't suppost to get a tattoo under pressure, and I'm not exactly under pressure b/c I do want one I just don't know what and where, and Laura just got one so, that makes me want one too ha ha anyway I need some help finding one I want here are some of the things I am considering and don't judge ha ha
I either want some horror movie icon like ash from evil dead or michael myers, or I want a 'masculine looking' turtle, a dinosaur like a tyrannosaurus, or maybe just some cool looking celtic design b/c i like them.
I am having trouble finding good pictures online to browse, most websites want you to pay a lot of money to view pictures bigger than the size of an emoticon. HELP

hmm, well decide on something you know you like and will like for the rest of your life.
for instance, my horse tattoo was originally going to be a Grateful Dead terrapin turtle, but thankfully i decided that i probably wouldnt be fanatical about the dead all my life, so i went with horses because well, i obviously still love them.
if you are a horror buff, then by all means go with your favorite character, or something from your favorite movie.

I don't know if I am still getting the celtic cross, I will get something with religious meaning to me before I'm through though... I did see a small heart and cross with a thorn crown over it that I liked there... and I definately know I am getting a tat of Ash from Evil Dead, I even took that pic in yesterday as a back-up and he wanted to do it yesterday I was like no, I'll wait ha ha

I'd like 3 tattoos. I've been thinking of doing this for about 5 years now, but haven't gotten around to doing it. Not sure why really, but I definitely want to do it!
I want these 2 tattoos on my feet (1 on the left and 1 on the right):
http://www.regencies.com/images/cp-pins-Crystal-Butterfly_Blue-THUMB.jpg
http://www.s-embroidery.com/magazin/files/master/10263_lacedragonfly2.jpg (only the dragonfly will be purple/blue/green)
And last but not least, a CAT tattoo somewhere (but of course!!)....undecided on location still! I have yet to find a design I want for this one, but I do know that I want it to be abstract in a way, so that it 'symbolizes' a cat rather than an actual cat portrait....if that makes any sense!
Eibhlin
10-25-2006, 03:39 PM
Back when I was 17 I really really wanted a "China Cat Sunflower" tattoo, on my right arm...I was very much into the Grateful Dead and the image of a sunflower with a cat face in it was cool to me at the time...never did get it though, and now well, I probably wouldn't
but it would have been cool!

for some reason I don't like color tattoo's.. I mean they look good on some people (my wife even has one now) but I probably will never get any. I just like the plain black tatoo look I guess and I really don't like detailed tat's either too much, just plain bold, maybe slightly shaded tattoo's...

Have you seen the tattoos that are popular now that look like your skin & flesh was carved out, sort of 3-dimensional?? I'm not sure what the actual name of that is, but it really looks like someone took a chunk out of your arm or leg, or wherever you happen to get one like that!

No it's not scarring, it's actually a tattoo that LOOKS like the skin & flesh is carved into. Like the outline is in black, but using shadow and like a red color ink it looks like somone took a drill and just CUT the design into you. I'll have to try and find a picture of it for you.

oh ps I was thinking the other night while I was working, wouldnt it be awesome if you had the opportunity to have Jewel (or anyone you really love for that matter) autograph your skin somewhere and then go and have it traced w/ ink so you have her autograph on your forever?? i think that would be awesome. I had my belly pierced for a while and then I got sick of it and took it out. I rather enjoyed the process and felt that I could easily become addicted to it--but that was when I was in college and didn't have any money. I guess that is partly why I don't have any tattoos (yet?) I'm afraid I won't stop (and, again, I don't have any money). I've been thinking about getting my mustang's freezbrand tattooed to me somewhere... but where should it go??

Yeah! I'd love to see it. I definitely want horse related tatts and I like things a bit abstract. Thats partly why I love the freezebrand. I don't know if you've ever seen a BLM freezbrand but they are really unique looking. They are basically just a series of symbols... They don't really mean much to people who aren't familiar with them but I think they are pretty cool looking here:

oh, that would be cool! you should totally do it, then if anything should happen to your horse too, you can say Well look, our brands match-lol
it looks like it would be good for around your arm, or maybe have it done say, sideways running up the back of your neck? it would kinda resemble japanese calligraphy that way--I am thinking of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, where the girl does the womans name fromtop to bottom and says her name resembles a sword...

Speaking of tattoos, the Seattle Tattoo Convention is in August, when I hope to have saved enough for my next one. My first is a dreamcatcher on my outer calf, with a wolf silouette in the middle. My second is a dreamcatcher on the other calf with a cougar head in the center, very life like looking. My third is a fairly good size tiger laying on my left shoulder blade area, also very life like looking. My next one is either going to be a mountain lion or a wolf on the other shoulder to match the tiger. I like the big cat theme, but to be sappy I'll probably get a wolf because in high school my nickname was Kat & my husband was my "wolf".

The 2 I got and then something for Jesus like maybe a cross or something else in remembrance.. but now I am thinking I might get the meaning of my name "Mighty Warrior" in runic somewhere, but that's only if my best friend wants to do that b/c I am all super psyched that both our names mean "Mighty Warrior" and I just think it'd be awesome if we both get that in runic

Hi,i only have the one tattoo,at the moment, its a 'Greek Key' band around the top of my left arm.,and here is why i chose it.
I love Greece,i have been to the same part of Crete 14 times now,and its actually where i met my wife,i was on holiday from Scotland with my friends, and Tina and her friend were there from England,we met on the first night of our holiday in 1990,and Tina moved up to Glasgow early 1991,and we will have been married 10 years this June.
We have matching Gold Greek Key rings from Crete, and i got the tattoo around 6 years ago to match,i really like it.I would actually love to eventually live there someday, hopefully !!!
I may add another tattoo later,i fancy getting the Jewel 'Koa' symbol thats inlayed in the back of my JKSM guitar,i think that would be pretty cool, its a simple design, but it would have meaning,i'm obviously a fan of Jewel, but my Jewel guitar is my pride and joy,so the tattoo would be a nice thing to match the guitar.I would possibly even get a small number 667 under the symbol to represent the serial number of my guitar.
I don't really know what else i would want for a tattoo as yet.
It's good to read what everyone else on the JKF has tattoos of,cool !
Cheers,Crawfy !!! :acoustic:

I still haven't decided what I'd like but I figure I'll get one someday. Just not sure when. Obviously not now. Can you get tat's when you're pregnant?

I wouldnt recommend it. It's tough enough doing it when you aren't pregnant.. I mean my first time I almost passed out from lack of sugar in my body...

No problem, I still haven't had time to take any pics anyway. Too many kid things this week. My oldest is turning 16. But I will work on it soon, so stay posted.

It's not recommended, but I got the one on my hand before I found out I was pregnant and nothing happened so...I guess as long as it isnt big its not that big of a deal.

I guess you can, but you're potentially risking getting Hepatitis, HIV, and other diseases that can be transmitted by using a dirty needle. Here in the U.S. tattoo needles aren't regulated by the FDA (federal drug administration), YET anyway. They can use the same dirty needles over and over if they want. It's scary. But truth be told, many if not most tattoo parlors now will use a disposable type of needle tip to help prevent that, and they autoclave the equipment (a type of oven that gets really hot to help kill viruses/bacteria). But there still is that potential risk. Someone only needs to forget to autoclave it once, and someone could get a disease. It's the same principle as drug users sharing needles...
You cannot donate blood products in the U.S. for a year (that's what it used to be anyway) after you've gotten a tattoo. The reason being in that amount of time your body can convert to being positive for the aforementioned diseases. If you donate blood in that year after getting a tat and you caught one of these diseases, someone else may also get HIV/Hepatitis from it. Tattoos are considered a risk factor. The tattoo question comes up when they interview a person prior to donation. If you say 'yes' to the question, you are prohibited from donating blood. They will actually "black flag" you in their database from donating until 1 year has elapsed!
So, Kiera, I would NOT recommend it until after the little one has come into this world. Also keep in mind that if you're thinking of giving Baby #1 a sibling, I'd wait a year after getting a tattoo to try to get pregnant again. And get tested in between that time to make sure. Ask your Doctor about this before you do anything, of course.
This whole thing is the reason I think I've not gotten a tattoo yet. I want one, but when I think of the potential things that can happen I decide not to.
Sorry if I freaked anyone out that has tats......I can't help it, I work in the medical field!!!!

Because I knew that we were going to get pregnant soon and because I had a blood transfusion as a child (when these diseases were never heard of and weren't screened for) I got Hepatitis and HIV testing done before getting pregnant. I obviously came back all clear but I think that it is something every woman should do if planning a child if they've ever had a tattoo or received a transfusion, regardless of when!
Good that you pointed that out. I, of course, won't be getting one any time soon. I'd rather not put myself in potential harms way so I'm abstaining for now but I would like a small tattoo someday.

well, as long as you go to a reputable place you should be fine, any place I have gone to around here is very clean, they sanitize their equipment and use new needles every time
but there is a risk in everything!

Hey did anyone hear about David Beckam's latest tattoo? Apparently, It covers the entirety of one of his arms and has something to with Prisonbreak (the TV show). I just think that's weird. It's one thing to be an average Joe, crazed fan and get a tattoo for their favourite TV show but when you're as famous as David Beckham, it just seems weird.
Here's the tattoo. I don't like it.

Turns out, it resembles Wentworth Miller’s tattoo on the show.

I don't like tattoo's covering up an entirety of someone's body part, I think small ones are just fine. I can't believe David Beckham would do something like that. Posh is all classy and would probably chew him up and down. As for Wentworth Miller.....yummers!

Posh = Classy??? Oh dear, you don't know her at all then. The 2 of them are refered to as publicity whores. Not very nice but strangely accurate. She may have tonnes of money and pretend to ooze class but she really doesn't, IMO!
Anyway, sleeves you say, Gary. Didn't know that's what they were called. Thanks for that.

I don't think all sleeves look bad, I just wouldn't want sleeves. Actually I saw this dude the other day with the coolest sleeve I've ever seen. It was more of a half-sleeve from his wrist to his elbow, and I haven't seen a partial sleeve like that, I thought it looked awesome. I didnt even get a close enough look to see what it was, but it looked awesome.

I stupidly got a tatoo that I regret now. It was a night when all my walmart coworkers were having a party and someone had tatoo gun so they thought hey we should give chris a tatoo. My nickname at the time was biggie and that's what I got tatooed on my arm. Sigh I was so dumb. I could have gotten the hepatitis
Little Bird

Well you could get another tattoo over it and turn it into something else.
That's not a very nice nickname so I can see why you would regret having it as a tattoo.
I still think I'll get one someday but not until I'm certain I know what I want.

My husband recently got a really COOL tattoo!! It's the first one he's ever gotten. It took awhile to get it all done, but he's really pleased with how it turned out.
On his back, in between his shoulders and just below his neck he has a large YinYang in black ink. To him it symbolizes his multi-faceted personality and how he has overcome so much adversity in his life. Also it sort of represents me and him because we're essentially opposites!! I'm a quiet person, and he's very outgoing.
Around the outside of the YinYang circle, he has very small Chinese symbols for every member of his family that he wanted to commemorate. He didn't want to put any names on his skin, but rather a symbol of that person's relationship to him. For instance, he has a Chinese symbol for mother, brother, grandmother, wife, etc. I have to say it's one of the coolest tats I've ever seen! He just came up with the idea one day.
