June 24, 2008 — Jewel Kilcher’s very first country album debuted at No. 1, and GAC will bring fans to the ranch that Jewel shares with rodeo pro Ty Murray in the latest edition of "Origins."
The show, which looks into the history and hometowns of country’s hitmakers, ventures to Stephenville, Texas, for this episode as Jewel delves into the influence of her father, her early years in Alaska and a much-publicized period in which she lived in a van in San Diego.
"At the heart of it all, I’m the daughter of pioneers and homesteaders," she says. "I was raised on a remote ranch in Alaska and grew up listening to my father’s cowboy music and songwriting by campfire during our summer cattle drives. That lifestyle became the foundation to everything I’ve achieved in my life since — and I’ve exceeded every expectation I’ve ever had for myself. It’s such an honor to be able to make a living writing and singing the music that I love. I still work everyday to maintain the things I care about and to uphold the proud pioneer spirit of my family."
In addition to the on-the-ranch footage, Origins also features an acoustic concert in which she performs much of the material from the new Perfectly Clear album, including her first country hit, "Stronger Woman." The episode is the third installment in the GAC series, which has previously highlighted Miranda Lambert and Phil Vassar.

Watch a sneak peek: (http://www.gactv.com/gac/nw_headlines/article/0,3034,GAC_26063_5891524_,00.html) "Origins: Jewel" chronicles Jewel's evolution from her hard scrabble life with an artistic family in the primitive Alaskan frontier to one of America's most successful and beloved singer/songwriter/poets. The journey takes her through struggling artist status (living in her car) to San Diego coffee shop cult status and ultimately to superstar status.

Taped at her ranch in Stephenville, Tx., where she now lives with rodeo legend Ty Murray, Jewel has not only returned to her "agrarian" roots but she's rekindled her childhood love affair with country music in a new CD, Perfectly Clear. Jewel's place in country music becomes "perfectly clear" in a special, acoustic concert taped live from Texas.
