I wonder how popular JEWEL is in every city, in every place or in every country.
In the Philippines, she is known but not as popular as the way she ought to be or maybe the way i want her to be. But of course in my heart and the people who knows me, she is numero uno, #1.

I'd like to know how popular is she in your place?R*Philippines

Not very popular in England, although 0304 was the only Jewel album ive ever seen in a high street record store.

My mum likes her now, so its a start.

From my experience not too many people have heard of Jewel or any of her songs, which in my eyes i find amazing.... they dont know what they are missing out on.

The funny thing is, she has more exposure in the UK than she does in Ireland! So I know how it is when you tell people you love Jewel and they go huh? That kind of expression.

It is such a shame but then again...I feel all the more special just to have a bit more of her to myself.

That almost sounds creepy. I swear I am not stalking her anymore. *twitches eye*

Right now, Jewel is not that popular in the U.S. either. I'm hoping that her career takes off when her next album comes out.

Yeah...

Australians have always had a soft spot for Jewel...
even 0304 went platinum here !!!

Read the scroller here:

Jewel's Australian statz are truely impressive.

Jewel has performed in Sydney more than most other cities in the world...
even counting American cities.
She certainly doesn't take her Aussie fanbase for granted.

I reckon she'll tour Australia first (AGAIN) when her new album is launched. B)

Eat your hearts out Dave and Kiera. :P

Easy... the Prezident Formerly Know as Intrepid ;)

In the netherlands she isn't that popular either. People know te Foolish Games single, but most of the time do not know that Jewel is the one singing it.
I don't even think that Who will save your soul was a single here, so almost nobody has heard of this amazing song.

So, not very popular here.

Ay...i would'nt at all say Jewel is "unpopular" or even "unknown" here in the UK,she's just not as commercial as some would like her to be i suppose.
The odd trickle of people iv come across in my time have heard of Jewel and most of them just discovered her music!!!
I can remember the first time i saw her was on MTV singing "Angel Standing By"(93,94 cant remember?) and from that day on she caught my heart, her CD's were not hard to find in high st stores from the very day 'pieces of you' was released...etc

Mind you im glad Jewel stays away from this commercialism crap these days,i hate it!!! :devil1: she's doing just fine without being played on the radio 7 times a day for 3 months SOLID!!! until you get sick of em...sorry a lil bit :offtopic: there *ahem* :read:

Just to add about Jewel being in Australia. I got wind that she might be come out to Australia in August of this year, thats if she has no other comments. PBR event in Townsville QLDs. Jewel, Ty and few other Bullriders.
I just happen to keep in touch with a few of the Aussie Bullriders.
Yes I'm a redneck girl and I can now hear you all gaging that's cool I don't disciminate.
Oh and I do like Jewels music it also seems the boys like her music too. She goes to the events and hangs out with the guys at the after parties. She has also been know to pick up Blue and Jam with Justin McBride. - PBRs number one Bullrider. Country Girl at heart just like me.
Save a horse ride a cowboy!

Hey Penderlee

I reckon Jewel'll come to Oz anyway... she always does when she release a new album.
Jewel still has quite a loyal following here and she seems to appreciates that.

Hey... if you ever get to see Jewel on the circuit, don't tell her that I missed
her last Oz tour. Christina was in Sydney around the same time.

Concert tickets ain't cheap these days...limited funds, you do understand.

Easy... ;)

You've got to work on theose priorities it you want to win another term as Prezident. Oh yea. You were never elected. You just declared martial law and took over in a bloodless coup. ;)

You need to head down to the Sydney Harbor to catch a glimpse of Jewel surfing in the bay next time she is in your neighborhood.

Christina? Say it isn't so...

Christina? Say it isn't so... (MIKE)
OK OK... but its taken years to live this down. And... ya gotta promise not
to call me superficial. I mean it... don't call me superficial.

Jewel's 'This Way' Australian tour was TV/radio stuff only... so the last time
(and only time) I saw Jewel was at the 'SPIRIT' tour. And...

well... she looked like Jewel. Ya know... like this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v717/jewelfan33/SPIRIT.jpg

Well, a couple of seconds before coming to Oz, Jewel decided to get her hair cut and...
yeah... she didn't look like Jewel anymore... she looked like this:
(photo taken at the Sydney Opera House)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v717/jewelfan33/JEWELsydney.jpg

So...
I figured she'd eventually grow her hair back, then I'll see her the next time around. :)

Right... so when I explained all this to my sisters and told them I was gonna
see Christina instead they first thought I was joking. But when they realised
that I really was gonna see Christina they were really disappointed and said
that I was the most superficial Kilcherian on the planet.

I was even called... well... and this really hurt... unIntrepid.

So... you promised not to call me superficial, right. But really...
I wanna see Jewel looking like Jewel, not like another weird incarnation of Cher.

Jewel should look like the chick on the SPIRIT album, right ???
So... that's who I wanna see again. Its not all that superficial really.

You base your decision of who to see in concert on hair and ask not to be called superficial? Maybe superficial has some other kind of definition in Australia than it does in the rest of the world. Hey, when your own sister calls you unintrepid it's time for self reflection, dude. Have you never had a bad haircut? I have and I'm glad my wife doesn't divorce me over a bad haircut. That would be superficial of her. I saw Jewel last year and this year and she was just as good as ever in concert

OK, Answer me this. You like Jewel to look like the girl on the Spirit album. So do I. Here's my big question: When exactly have Christina or Shakira ever looked like the girl on the Spirit album? It seems to me that you want Jewel to act one way, but if she tries to act like Christina or Shakira then she's gone off track. I do think they do a better job of being sleezed up pop tarts than Jewel.

Uh, oh. I turned on you... ;) You were right. 8) I'm just yanking your chain.

I challenge you to go see Jewel next time she comes to Australia and does solo acoustic show. You just need to listen to some of her concerts Justin. I think you would enjoy it.

When I saw Christina...

she looked like Christina... she sang like Christina...
she danced like Christina... she dressed all sluttly like Christina...
ye see... she didn't look like Jewel.
(well, not like the Olde Jewelle at least)

I payed well over a 100 bucks to see Christina and... I got what I payed for.

I didn't wanna pay good money to see Jewel looking like Cher,
dressed like Christina and singing crappy songs from 0304.

When exactly have Christina or Shakira ever looked like the girl on the Spirit album?
They're are not supposed to look like the Spirit Jewel, Mike...
Jewel is supposed to. Shakira looks like Shakira, even with her haircut...
Shakira doesn't look like Cher.

Shakira looks great in her dance costumes... she a complete entertainer...
I don't wanna see Shakira singing Hands with an accustic guitar. I wanna
see her do the tango, sing and dance... and run about... and make me feel happy.
That's what Shakira is all about.

Jewel is about singing songs from the Spirit album and looking like the
album cover. That's what I saw in Sydney. That's what the ASPCJ is all about.

Yeah... the very 1st thing you see on the ASPCJ website is a scroller
anouncing that the ASPCJ is the fortress of:

"The Gallant Defenders of the Spirit Album"

Its never been a secret. Its why the ASPCJ was founded... we predicted all
this sell-out crap... but sooner or later I'm gonna see Ye Olde Jewelle again,
in Sydney, singing songs from the Spirit album.

If its a choice between my superficiality or the 'New Improved 0304 Blender Jewel'
then I'm gonna stay superficial.

If you want to see that you probably need go to see a Jessica Simpson show.

Jewel is supposed to.

Jewel sand Hands solo acoustic when I saw her last. She still sings songs from Spirit and does them as good as ever.

Shakira looks like Shakira, even with her haircut...
Shakira doesn't look like Cher.

And Jewel still looks like Jewel.

Shakira looks great in her dance costumes... she a complete entertainer...

By complete you mean multilingual, multicultural, belly dancing, Stage crawling, hip shaking, mud wrestling... Complete. Like Aunt Jemima. Just add water.

I don't wanna see Shakira singing Hands with an accustic guitar.

Me neither unless it's in Spanish.

I wanna
see her do the tango, sing and dance... and run about... and make me feel happy.
That's what Shakira is all about.

Almost every concert by any artist that I've ever been to makes me happy. Every show is an experience. Every show is different. Even by the same artist.

Jewel is about singing songs from the Spirit album and looking like the
album cover. That's what I saw in Sydney. That's what the ASPCJ is all about.

Women change hairstyles often. It's something most of them do. I like Jewel's hair sometimes better than others, but it's just hair. It grows back.

Yeah... the very 1st thing you see on the ASPCJ website is a scroller

"The Gallant Defenders of the Spirit Album"

You're the prezident so you know that better than me. I thought it was founded because you were bored and needed something to do. I guess I figured wrong. ;)

we predicted all
this sell-out crap...

Yea, you probably did.

but sooner or later I'm gonna see Ye Olde Jewelle again,
in Sydney, singing songs from the Spirit album.

The Jewel I saw winging alone on the stage was Ye Olde Jewelle to me.

If its a choice between my superficiality or the 'New Improved 0304 Blender Jewel'
then I'm gonna stay superficial.

I hate the Blender photos. I think they are sleezy soft porn that were done to promote her career. I wish she had not done them at all, but she did. What can I do? Say my piece in these forums, forgive her, hope she doesn't do it again, and move on. I see those photos as hurting Jewel more than anybody else.

Like you, my hope is that Jewel does return to her roots and I honestly think she has done that. If she comes out with a 70's style disco album next I will throw my Hands up and rejoin you in your not completely unfounded crusade.

Long live Jewel.

Not very compared to how popular she was three to five years ago. I have confidence she will has some more hit albums left in her career.

Well, I was surprised of how many people in Croatia know about Jewel ('cause this is an odd place, where people usually don't know about "alternative" foreign music), but thanks to Foolish Games, Hands and Intuition, Jewel has always been somewhere here, on the radio, national TV, magazines... Maybe not too popular, but appreciated by the people here.

I'm going back to this topic because what surprises me more these past few weeks "JEWEL "songs" are getting played on the radio again. INTUITION was a big hit here 2 years ago, but it has been requested every now and then. I was almost ready to attack the DJ who stated, "One of the most requested songs in 2003 INTUITION by JEWEL (he pronounced it as GEEWEL) then he announced on the radio that he likes the song and the singer who's new in the business. He's so stupid. I don't know why they hired someone to be a DJ yet they know nothing in music. Jewel is new in the business? Anyway, my consolation was that her songs now are being played maybe not everynow and then but at least a minimum of 3-4 songs of Jewel are being played everyday. Songs like "STANDING STILL" "BREAKME" "THIS WAY" and "INTUITION" and the good news. "STAND" is back in the TOP20 dance-mix countdown (Re-entry) How's that? With her MTV "YWMFM" "WWSYS" "FOOLISH GAMES" and "HANDS" are now considered "CLASSIC at MTV_ASIA." I think I can smell a possible "JEWEL LIVE in the PHILIPPINES" (2006 ASIAN TOUR). I'm excited... This could be a sign... Especially Miss Philippines just got the MISS INTERNATIONAL 2005 crown 2 weeks ago. (Do the math)
