Jewel did mention in an interview that she was skeptical about hosting again this year. She said it was moving to NBC and it might become too hokey. This article confirms it.

Nashville Star' Migrates to NBC
Music show, 'Gladiators' set for summer runs
January 17, 2008

"Nashville Star" will be back on the air in 2008, but not in its longtime home.

Instead, the country-music competition will migrate from the USA Network to its broadcast sibling NBC. The show will join a second season of "American Gladiators" in what NBC is calling its "All-American Summer" lineup, leading up to its coverage of the Olympics in August.

"We are thrilled to feature the powerhouse 'Gladiators' this summer, and it's a real coup to bring 'Nashville Star' to NBC," says Craig Plestis, head of alternative programming at NBC.

"Nashville Star" has aired for five seasons on USA, helping launch the careers of Miranda Lambert, Buddy Jewell and last season's winner, Angela Hacker, who beat out her brother Zac to win the crown. About 3 million people watched last season's finale, a record for the show.

The show will also continue its run of replacing its host and judges after a season or two. Singers Jewel and Cowboy Troy hosted last season but won't make the leap to NBC; nor will judges Anastasia Brown, Blake Shelton and Randy Owen. Additionally, "Nashville Star" will open its competition to duos and groups as well as solo artists this season.

NBC announced the pickup of "American Gladiators" earlier this week. Both it and "Nashville Star" are produced by Reveille, the production company founded by now-NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman.

I don't really care if she hosts it or not. CMT should just buy the show. It's gonna do terrible on NBC. I could be wrong. I wonder who they are going to get to host the show. Proabaly Gretchen Wilson or some crazy crap. They should get dolly parton cuz that would be awesome.

The only real success is Miranda Lambert and she didn't even win.
So like I can't think of anyone else who actually managed to have a stable career.

Sounds like it'll be a completely different show just recycling the name. Seems pointless to me but hey, nothing to do with me.

Pity though because it got Jewel a lot of exposure last year. Perhaps she wouldn't have the time anyway with the new record.

On a positive note, seeing as she won't be doing that, maybe she'll be touring instead!!!

Always there with positive thoughts, Kiera... I like the idea of touring rather than hosting Nashville Star. It's a shame that they couldn't get anyone to stay along for the transition to NBC, but I agree--same name different show.

That's too bad, I was hoping Jewel would get more country audience exposure this year.............But she's doing just fine with her own country music anyway!! So it's all good...
