Stronger Woman on the charts

I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to tracking Stronger Woman on the radio charts. So here it is....

The week of Jan. 4-10th Stronger Woman recieved 4 pre-release adds at
WKIS Miami. It was played 7 times on that station.
WGNE Jacksonville played 4 times
KEGA Salt Lake City played 4 times
WWGR Ft. Meyers played 2 times


Anything is good now considering it is 4 weeks before the official release.

Oh and obviously all the stations Jewel is visiting have played the song once. but it only shows on the chart if it is played 2 or more times on that station in a 7 day period. This particular chart is updated everyday so I will keep you all updated. I have a feeling we will see a lot more stations listed in the next few days

Thanks for starting this thread! It will be interesting to see how well SW places. I'm not well versed in the current Country charts, but it seems like the female county artists are doing well... Dixie Chicks, Reba, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift all come to mind. This board could see a whole bunch of new Jewel fans registering that lean towards her new genre.

I wonder how it will all unfold.

She seams to be "buddy-buddy" with GAC, and since there are only two major country music tv stations, country radio is usually very friendly about playing the music that they do. even the lesser known stuff on GAC has made it's way to my local CMA Awarding Winning Country Station =)

If you check on allaccess.com, "Stronger Woman" is the most added song this week, with 8 new stations! this is good news, considering the promo hasn't even started yet and they haven't hit the "agressively seeking adds" date. Congrats Jewel!

Meanwhile....on the radio and records chart Stronger Woman stayed steady at #32. This seems like a bad thing but its actually good considering most artists around her fell 2 or 3 spots even though they are gaining plays. Its weird but there is just a lot of competition right now. Jewel was labeled a "breaker" this week and is the #2 most added!

#96 on the hot 100! "Again and Again" only went up to #80 on the hot 100 and #62 (?) on the pop 100, and this was around the time the album came out. If she's at #96 four months before the album is out, maybe she can go far with this... even break the top 20. I mean, if stupid songs like fergie's "big girls dont cry" can make it to #1, why cant jewel? It's not about the song anymore, it's about the promotion. We know jewel has great stuff, but the music business is exactly that - a business. If stupid songs have the right promotion, they get the airplay and we'll grow to love em, and they'll climb the charts. Time for our girl to get some chart success again.

I would say at this point most increased plays is more important. Most stations are playing her so if they all increase the plays the other stations are bound to add it. The more these stations play it the higher it goes up the chart.

I believe All Access and Mediabase 24/7 are the same thing. Radio and records and mediabase are more important to the radio industry where billboard is more important to retail. Billboard is the only one of those that factors in retail sales. The other 2 are strictly radio airplay. As for whos more accurate.....I have no idea. I don't think they do either.

As of 2:49pm today (Sunday) Jewel moved up to #21 on the All Access rolling chart. That is good news. Clicked on her name to see how her spins were doing and there are some station that have less spins than
last week but most stations have increased play, a lot. So she is on

Weird. Check out this site (http://acharts.us/billboard_hot_100/). It looks like Jewel made it to 96 a couple of weeks ago, which we all knew, then promptly dropped back off the Hot 100 chart. I assume this has to do with poor digital downloads, because her airplay has been increasing steadily.

Yeah I figured she probably dropped off. The hot 100 is based mostly on sales and Stronger Woman dropped out of the top ten on itunes.

Yeah it dropped out of the Hot 100 but rose to a new peak of 26 on the Hot Country Charts. Probably thanks to the increased radio spins and steady digital downloads.

Huge bummer--but maybe her downloads will increase as the song gets into the top 20 and hopefully top 10 on the country charts. Other artists with current songs have had their downloads increase as they've gotten more airplay, which I'm guessing makes people like a song more and want it on their IPod or whatever. We'll see, I guess. Regardless, I am pleased with this single choice (for once) and am glad to see it's doing well at Country.

The single is not selling that greatly, that was why it dropped. Still, once it hits top 10 and maybe go for other formats (AC probably), it should rise again.

Okay, so I just studied the Mediabase country chart to try to figure out why Jewel, with such a big bullet and so many stations, is not shooting up the Billboard charts as quickly as some other songs. It looks like she has plenty of stations supporting her, but not in key, large markets--this affects the size of her audience and suppresses any potential gains on the Billboard charts. One example of a big city in which some other songs are getting played and in which Stronger Woman is not is Chicago.

I think if any of us lives in a big city, we should make an effort to call in to the local country station and ask them to add the song (Houston is an exception, as it's currently the station in the States spinning Stronger Woman the very most).

I noticed on All Access the #1 song had 35 Million plus audience, Jewel has 13 million plus audience and she is # 19th with only one new station playing her song, so how does she get to the point that she has 35 million in audience.

She has almost all the stations playing it. Thats why shes not really getting adds anymore. They just need to play it more. Most stations are playing it less than 20 times a week. To get into the top ten most stations are going to need to be playing 30 or more times a week.

Yeah, things are not looking great. Jewel is loosing her bullet fast and there are a lot of songs coming up really fast to pass her. Unless something happens and she starts gaining major spin gains again it looks like the song has reached its peak.

She needs to be added and gain a lot of spins in a couple of big cities like Philly and Chicago (I think, based on the last detailed look I took about a week ago). She had great support from Houston, which offers huge audience numbers, but that station's spins have already peaked, and it happened a bit too early as lots of other stations are just now catching on to the song.

Hopefully the song experiences a resurgence at a couple of the stations that are playing it big and manages to hold on there while some of the other stations catch up in spins and a couple of urban areas put it into heavy rotation. Maybe the video can do something to help too, though I doubt it.

It's had a good run so far, and is not dead by any means, but I think people are losing interest in the novelty of Jewel's being a new act and she's getting overshadowed by some of the genre juggernauts now. I guess we'll see what they do about a second single. I just hope it's not I Do.

There are some crappy country songs out right now--kind of like there are crappy pop and AC songs, too, I guess--but luckily I caught Stronger Woman pretty early so I didn't have to suffer too long. I was pleased to hear the DJ refer to it as a new song "that we're liking a lot around here." Makes it sound to me like they still view the song as relatively new to the format and plan to stick with it for a while (maybe even "'til the end"--gag).

I hear it quite frequently on Sirius Radio, the New Country station quite often - sometimes once an hour! I also hear it on 99.5 WQYK, but not quite as much. She's definitely getting play in some of the larger markets. I'm in the Tampa Bay, FL area.

On all access rolling chart, as of today Jewel is #13. Kenny Chensey, Brooks and Dunn and someother person dropped below her and moved her on up. This is great news. By next week she should be in the top 10 and from there she will go up to #1.

I thought she was low yesterday as a result of the weekend hangover, but all the other songs around her seem to have rebounded and she's only dropped lower. I'm not super knowledgeable about the country charts, but this seems bad...

In her my space message that doesnt seem to be there now she explained what happens to a song when it gets so high, it is like a survey they do (but she didn't use that word) and they ask people if they know the song and she said her song isn't doing so good but it is doing good on i tunes. Hopefully the message will be back on my space. We need to request.... I just checked all access and this morning at 4:00am Jewel was a -8.

Was she talking about call-outs? Where stations get people to listen to short clips of a song and then rate them? I can see how she might not be doing well with the country demographic on those because of the pretty narrow appeal of Stronger Woman. However, I still think this is a strong single choice because it has the potential to get its narrow demographic pretty excited, which could result in requests and downloads. Wish the vocals had been a bit stronger, but other than that, I think it was a pretty good pick.

Unfortunately the only reason she jumped that much is because 4 songs fell below her last week. There are no more songs that are going to fall below her anytime soon and she has almost completely lost her bullet. Meaning she is now getting less spins this week than last week. Unless something dramatic happens and she starts to regain major plays Stronger Woman has reached its peak at #13. She could still go higher on the billboard chart if digital downloads pick up but this is unlikely.

Stronger Woman is back in the positive!! YAY! Shes at +76 today holding steady at 13. She'll probably fall 2 spots in the next few days because of songs coming up fast behind her though. I'm just glad she got her bullet back. Lets hope it can hold on.

Yeah, but Carrie Underwood is about to own Jewel (and the probably 5 or 6 songs above Jewel), so I think SW may stay in place for a few days as one or two songs drop down around it and Carrie jumps up above it.

I cant believe it shes gaining more and more each day now. She back at +268. She needs to get up to about +500 to really get some momentum and jump into the top 10. I think she can do it though.

Haven't heard that song yet (I was content to hear SW on country radio exactly one time, and got the hell away from the format as quickly as possible afterwards).

I do think generally though that Carrie Underwood, for having such a great voice, is pretty boring and that her music is about on par with that of Shania, who I think is a complete hack. She needs better writers.

I don't know if it is carrie or shania that you think needs better writers but shania writes her own songs like jewel, and as successful as shania and carrie are a lot of people disagree they need new writers. my theory is Jewel will make her own mark, and can hold her own with other country artist. We don't need to say negative about other artist to make Jewel look good, Jewel's voice and talent make her look good and when her album hits the stores in June it will top the country charts her first week out, and it will stay there for a few weeks. Next year at the award shows Jewel will be in the winner circle. Touring with Brad Paisley is going to expose her to so many country fans and they will love her.
Wish there was someway to find out what other artist are having albums coming out in June but don't think there is.

I wasn't doing anything of the sort.

It's my opinion that Shania and Carrie's songs (with the possible exception of Carrie's Jesus Take the Wheel) generally suck, and I was saying Carrie needs new writers because she's got a great voice and in my opinion wastes it on poorly written pop/country junk.

Shania, on the other hand, is not even a good singer in my opnion, which is why I refered to her as a hack. I could say the same of dozens of other singers who are popular now, but Shania just happened to be the most ready comparison.

Nothing at all to do with Jewel or with tearing others down to build her up. I complain about certain of Jewel's songs that I hate whenever I feel it's necessary (like Fragile Heart--gag)--I'm all equal opportunity here!

I just think Carrie's new album is a copy of Some Hearts, but a little more country influence. It's trying way to hard to be the same thing.

For instance,

Jesus Take the Wheel = So Small
Before He Cheats = Last Name

There is a lot of filler, a lot of cliche material, a lot of junk. Don't get me wrong, it's catchy and fun, but when it comes down to it, there was little integrity in her album.

I'm not trying to say negative things about Carrie to make Jewel sound better. I just think that Jewel's more about the craft and Carrie's more about the results. That being said, I'm excited about the new album. Stronger Woman has regained its bullet and is gaining ground. Hopefully this will continue until June and we'll see a second single take off. I think this is only the beginning.

On All Access Bucky Covington went down and that put Jewel at #12 and Alan Jackson
is close to going below Jewel. Jewel only had +95 so hopefully that will go up again.
Carrie Underwood is on her way up but I don't quite know how to read this chart so can't tell if anyone else is on their way up that could bump Jewel.

As Of 2:30pm today, Jewel moved into 11th place, but she only has a +31, which I don't think is good. Carrie Underwood is moving up quick so she could move Jewel back down
but we will see. Still #11 is awesome

I think the call/email campain for a week or two is a good idea. Jewel is back down to # 12 right now with +71. Carrie Underwood bumped her down and if we don't get Jewel's spins up there are some underneath her who will bump her down even farther. So if we want a top 10 we need to help move it along. We don't want it to start falling now.

The April 21 Mediabase Country Chart has 'Stronger Woman' at #14 this week, down from #11 last week. We need to keep requesting this song at our local country stations to get it rising again!!!

Stronger Woman regained its bullet today on the mediabase charts! She is only at +14 but this could be good news considering shes been at -150 the past week and a half.
