In light of Peter and me moving to our own home, there is a moving house kind of theme to this weeks questions. Because we have just been in the thick of all this mayhem, I am interested in knowing your responses to the following questions

I ask:
~ How many times have you moved home?

~ What would your dream house consist of e.g. Artist studio, fine paintings, music studio. Anything, no matter how ridiculous it might sound?

~ City or Country, which would you prefer to live in and why?

~ Do you rent or do you own your own home (if you?re living with parents, which would you do first when you do eventually move out) ?

~ How far do you live from work/school?

i would like to renovate, or own a pre-renovated new england farmhouse, with the big attached barn and everything, then joe could put his music equipment somewhere other than our bedroom, it would have a library, an art room, a well soundproofed recording room, lots of room for the girls, lilacs and roses outside, a koi pond with some weeping willows...i could go on
~ City or Country, which would you prefer to live in and why?

probably Vermont, Maine or NH so we would be close to the grandparents, plus i love new england
~ Do you rent or do you own your own home (if you?re living with parents, which would you do first when you do eventually move out) ?

we own

I really should have taken 'homemaker' into consideration. In that case, what is the furtherest you ever had to go to, when you did work away from home?

lol! i wasn't yelling at you, actually reminding myself that all moms are working moms, lest i should convince myself i need to go out and get a second job. it's funny though how it seems that stay at home moms (in general opinion) are not considered "working moms", having been the quote "working mom" i would much rather BE the stay at home kind ^_^ i enjoy life much better without the added stress.

the furthest i had to drive to work was about 10 minutes, unless it was summer then it could take 20 or more to get on the island--tourists! it's a love hate relationship...they bring the business, and the ungoodly traffic :P hahaha!

~ How many times have you moved home?

Right now I'm in the same home I was born in. But while school is in session I live there.

~ What would your dream house consist of e.g. Artist studio, fine paintings, music studio. Anything, no matter how ridiculous it might sound?

....My dream house! Well it would be an apartment. I'm in this phase right now where I'm altering my lifestyle to be more environmentally friendly. So I'm not going to find a beautiful rural place to build a house because it will be more beautiful if it's just left to be. Anyway, I want to have a music room where I can play my guitars and the piano (a baby-grand if I ever get rich enough) I'll paint the walls black and have a white carpet and white drapes. It would be nice to have levels in my apartment. My bedroom is going to be blue... completely blue right down to my bed sheets. My bathroom will have one of those tiny stand up showers and a low-flow efficient toilet. My kitchen, i've always been a sucker for black and white checkered tiled floor, glass cabinets with white frame-work, and of course a natural gas stove. And lastly my livingroom is either going to have a red or yellow theme but not fire-engine red or piss-yellow and black leather chairs and a sofa and a flat-screen tv on the wall so my little place seems bigger.

~ City or Country, which would you prefer to live in and why?

I'd prefer to live in a city, that way I won't need a car, PTS is so much better and it gives you more of an oppurtunity to meet new people.

~ Do you rent or do you own your own home (if you?re living with parents, which would you do first when you do eventually move out) ?

I'm living with my parents currently but I'm paying rent on an apartment where I go to school. I'm going to be moving in over the summer since I'm already paying for it.

~ How far do you live from work/school?

Within a mile or at least reachable by subway, bus or trolly (But I think I'm going to stay on the East Coast.)

You have painted this picture in my head like I have already been there and I am recalling a memory. Sounds wonderful. You really have it sussed and that's great.
I have so much to do to my own house that I am finding it hard to make decisions on colours etc. I wish I was a decisive and certain about my home as you are about the one you wish to have.

Thanks
Kiera

I know you weren't yelling at me
Ya know, I still haven't decided on whether I would give up work when I have kids. I suppose I won't know til I get there. But it would be nice to properly bring them up and be around them, than strangers at a creche or playschool. Though, my sister going back to work and leaving her daughter in a creche has been excellent for Faye (my niece). So it's hard for me to know what we'll decide when that time comes.

Anyway, another conversation. Thanks Andrea.

~ How many times have you moved home?

3 so far. I was born in Burlington, NC and between the ages of 1 and 2, we moved to another part of the state. We lived there until I was about 4 and moved to our own land in a double wide trailer (no, we're not trailer trash, so don't even make jokes) in another part of NC. We lived there until I was about 8, almost 9, and we moved here to this crappy town in Virginia. I can't wait to move out of here.

~ What would your dream house consist of e.g. Artist studio, fine paintings, music studio. Anything, no matter how ridiculous it might sound?

The more I think about it, the more I want my house to be like an underwater scene. I've always had this fascination with water and sea creatures, so I'd like my house like that. There'd be fish and other creatures painted on the walls along with bubbles, coral etc. I want the floor to be painted like it's the bottom of the ocean with sand, rocks and other bottom dwelling creatures, and then the ceiling would have one or two shadows of boats and waves rippling. Of course, there'd be an actual fish tank in the room as well. ;) As for a bedroom, I think it'd be cool to have one side day and the other night. The night side would be where the bed is, with the walls painted a dark blue. There'd be small lights, maybe white Christmas lights, as the stars and then comets, planets and maybe a spaceship painted on the wall. On the day side, the walls would be painted a light blue with white fluffy clouds, birds and possibly a rainbow. The overhead light, I think, would be the most unique thing in the room. Since it's a half day half night thing, half of the light covering would be painted like the sun and the other half would be painted like the moon. Or, there could be two lights, one for each side. Of course, the night side would still look like the moon and the day side would look like the sun. Um, I think that's all I should say. :P

~ City or Country, which would you prefer to live in and why?

I'm not sure. I've lived in the country for more than half my life, so maybe the city. For some reason though, I don't see myself growing old in one particular place, so I guess we'll see what the future holds. :)

~ Do you rent or do you own your own home (if you?re living with parents, which would you do first when you do eventually move out)?

I live with my parents now, but when I move out I'd like to rent first and then buy. I'd also prefer to live by myself for a while, but there's no telling if that would even happen.

~ How far do you live from work/school?

Since this is a small town, I just live a short distance from work. Driving there takes about 5 minutes and walking there takes about 10 or 15 minutes.

~ How many times have you moved home?

I have moved approximately 8 times since I've lived on my own.

~ What would your dream house consist of e.g. Artist studio, fine paintings, music studio. Anything, no matter how ridiculous it might sound?

I'm pretty happy with my current home. It's 2 stories with about 2300 sq. ft. and 4 bedrooms. I would change a few things about it. Here's what I would change in my next home. I'm satisfied with this home enough to not want to move, but my next home will have these features.

1) I would like to have an office downstairs with enough room for all my computer equipment, books, etc.
2) I would like to have a larger garage. I've seen garages that are extra deep to hold long cars and lots of stuff. I have a three car garage, but I would like a larger one. It's full of stuff - I can only fit two cars into it.
3) A little larger back yard.
4) More space between the houses. I have houses 10 feet on one side, 30 feet on another, and 20 feet on the other.

~ City or Country, which would you prefer to live in and why?

Anywhere that that never goes over 90 degrees F or under 32 degrees F all year and has forests and fun things to do. I live in the desert and I miss trees. We have trees, but not enough. I've got too much family to move away today, but who knows. Kids grow up, move away, and you never know where you might be some day. It's not the location that makes a place nice it's the people.

City or country? I guess I'd like to live in the country a half an hour outside a city. I dont like living in a city and some places in the country are just too remote. Where I lived when I was young was one hour from a movie theater, one hour from a mall, one hour from any fast food restaurant. I've become too spoiled to want to live that far from civilization any more. I live in a fast growing area. They've opened two new grocery stores 1/2 mile from me in the last couple of months. There's much more being built within a few miles. There are probably 1000 new homes being built within 1 mile of my house.

~ Do you rent or do you own your own home (if you?re living with parents, which would you do first when you do eventually move out) ?

I own a home.

~ How far do you live from work/school?

I work at home.

That's pretty much how it is where I live. There's hiking/biking trails in the woods, it only goes above 90 for less than a week over the summer usually, and the past few winters have been pretty mild. And there's a few places nearby for camping. It's probably one of the things that I will miss living in the City too. I guess I'll have to put some trees in my apartment. ^_^

Compared to summers in Las Vegas almost anywhere in the US has better weather. You're in the Northeast/Midwest as I recall? Pennsylvania. I just looked it up. I've driven across Pennsylvania a few times. It's nice looking country. Green Rolling hills and farm land in the middle of the state. I remember goin to a deli and seen these two Amish guys there picking up about a dozen large pizzas in a 40's pickup truck wearing black hats and suits. It was a kick. They must gave had a barn raising or something.

Oh yeah.. the Amish are great. LOL

We have a country market here that's only open on Tuesdays. I went last week and there was an Amish kid chatting away on a cell phone. My friends and I laughed and I wanted to take a picture, but I didn't want to be mistaken for one of those tourists that takes pictures of Amish people.

Heapz

Lots of Space Age stuff... like a scene from a sci-fi movie.

~ City or Country, which would you prefer to live in and why?

When I move to the sticks, a couple of months go by and I miss the city...
when I get back to Sydney it doesn't take too long before I miss the wallabies and wombats.

~ How far do you live from work/school?

I do both... I work at home and I also have a job that's about a 20 minute drive away.

There you go Kiera, I filled out your form... but I still reckon that rabbit has a middle ear infection.

As I sit her looking out of the window of my own office in my house, looking out at the green rolling hills of the fabulous view we have and I think how wonderful it would be to work from home. But I guess there's a lot of negatives to doing that too.

~ How many times have you moved home?

Ive lived in the same house since I was born.

~ What would your dream house consist of e.g. Artist studio, fine paintings, music studio. Anything, no matter how ridiculous it might sound?

Wow, well, I'd love to own a nice large home with a beautiful view of the ocean, and I'd love to have an acoustic room to keep acoutic guitars in and a large kitchen (I love to cook) It would be painted lots of different colors and I would like to have a large stained glass mirage, of what, im not sure.

~ City or Country, which would you prefer to live in and why?

I would like to live in someplace like Malibu or Santa Monica, so i could have a house with the view of the beach, but then also have fun. I currently live in the suburbs, so there is one part that is empty and boring and then their is one part which is where everyone goes to party.

~ Do you rent or do you own your own home (if you?re living with parents, which would you do first when you do eventually move out) ?

I still have 4 years till I move out, so I live with my parents. I know that they have fully owned the house with no money owed since 2001. Sooo, i hope that answers the question.

~ How far do you live from work/school?

I live 1/3 of a mile to my school and I'm graduating on the 17th of June and the high school is 3.5 miles away from my house.

I dont know what the point of answering these questions are, but it was suprisingly amusing. plus, im bored.

Id love to work from home as it takes me 2hrs to drive to work and then 2hrs back home. The trouble is with my job i have to be at the Uni.

Ive tried at my appraisal to plead with my boss to allow me to do this and i even gave him good reasons including stuff like remote access via internet etc. Also, theres another reason, and thats the cost in petrol everyday.

Im not sure what the cost is like in the states but here petrol/gas is really expensive. I currently spend at least a third of my wages just getting to work and back!....for the brits amoungst us thats about ?500 per month.

Anyway, im looking at moving to ANYWHERE, just to escape from the crap this country has to offer. Latest moan: A thug gets 2 months community service for driving down a motorway the WRONG WAY! and killing a pensioner. Whilst a teacher who called a student a ':censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:' looses her job, and has to pay compensation to the childs family for causing him stress!! wtf!

Ok moan over, back to the day job lol.

ps, Kiera, do you think we should have a forum specially for rants and raves so we can vent a little lol??

Me too. I have spent over ?400 on petrol in the last month just getting to work which is a lot to put up with at the moment with just after buying a house, money is tighter. So I know how you feel.

~ How many times have you moved home?

In my whole life, 10 times.

~ What would your dream house consist of e.g. Artist studio, fine paintings, music studio. Anything, no matter how ridiculous it might sound?

Inuit snow house ("Igloo") or plains Indian "Tipi" - both are relatively low maintenance, not too big, simple, practical and can be torn down/rebuild quickly if needed.

~ City or Country, which would you prefer to live in and why?

Country for the solitude and fresh air

~ Do you rent or do you own your own home (if you?re living with parents, which would you do first when you do eventually move out) ?

I can only afford to rent......but I believe that nobody can truly own land or a house, that all things belong to a higher power.

To that end, I believe we all ought just to live in peace among each other and never use money to limit each other's housing options, never to use money as an idol with which we exclude some people and conform to the patterns of others who seem to us to be similar. To share the earth fairly.

I've lived on my own and with my wife for 15 years. I enjoy privacy. Economics forces all of the family members (6 adults, one child) to reside in one house now. There are savings possible but I tend to value financial savings to a lesser degree than the saving of privacy.

~ How far do you live from work/school?

It varies for work (when there is work it's contract stuff). My son's school is 1 km from here.
