Hi everyone
I was just wondering if anyone had a wristband, if you have, what colour, what message, and what charity is it for?
Also, do you think that people are wearing them for fasion and maybe forgetting the real meaning etc etc?
It would be nice to know peoples views.

ps, does anyone know if the 'the one' charity has got one?

i think lots of people wear it b/c of fashion reasons....b/c it's becoming a very popular accessory - see...the weird thing was i saw lots of people wearing them...not too many when i actually wanted one myself - i just figured it was something new - not all of them are charity based....some i see say LIVESTRONG (though that probably is a charity one) and some say JUST DO IT (for nike) and i was like - where could i get one - i thought they looked kewl - but most just said they got it from someone else i was like...gee...that's helpful
i recently saw a pink one for 96 cents @ walmart for breast cancer - i'm a guy - but i've seen plenty of guys wear pink ones - not sure if it's my color though but maybe i should lol
ive even seen a couple NEON green ones - those look kewl!
the most pop color i've seen is yellow

men can get breast cancer too....
I've seen tons.. i've seen rainbow ones for the gay/lesbian thing, i've seen purple ones, the livestrong ones... i'm pretty sure it's just a fashion fad.
I've also seen bright green ones that said "SUPPORT MY HABBIT" they are sold at those 'jackass' stores in the mall.

i have a P.O.W. bracelet that i got at the Vietnam Memorial wall, the only place i have really seen more people wearing those is up in the north. i don't consider them trendy as i almost never see people wearing them. i am seriously thinking of going to a jeweler though, and having all the information from my bracelet engraved on a silver or stainless steel bracelet instead, as the brass one i have turns my wrist green.
anyways, i got the only one i could find at the time from Massachusetts, my orig. home state, and it is for Joseph Patrick Dunn who went M.I.A. and if i am ever at the memorial again, then i suppose i will get another and show my support and respect for those who have fought for our country.

I don't have any charity wristbands and don't intend on buying any... 99% of people wear them to be cool and as a fashion thing. I hate them with a passion!! The idea behind it is a good one, but I find the idea of displaying to everyone that you've donated to charity a bit vulgar, to be honest. Plus... how much does one cost - ?1 a band over here... so, say you've had one for 3 months - that means you've donated approximately one penny per day to charity, less any costs for making the thing in the first place of course. Not that impressive really. If you want to donate to charity, set up a direct debit each month and do it properly, not just ?1 over the course of the year and a plastic band on your wrist -_-
When wristbands first appeared about a year or so ago and one of my friends had one I thought they were pretty different myself, but not anymore!

I have a ONE campaign one...obviously. But I have a pink one for breast cancer, blue one for Tesco Ireland's Charity of the Year 'Irish Hospice' and a yellow one for Ireland's Daffodil day which raises money for the Irish Cancer Society. But I don't wear any of them. I got them to support the charities.
You make a very valid point Mat. I donate monthly to 2 charities. I think regular support is better than dribs and drabs here or there

I have the purple cystic fibrosis band and i do wear it, i also have a ONE band, but i dont wear it, not just because its too small its because the CF one is much more personal to me as my niece has CF and to be honest, wearing it everyday reminds me of her.
I recently went to an auction which was run by the CF uk group and i bid and won a signed football shirt. I wont say how much i paid for it, but it was about 20 times what it was worth, so for me i got a peice of memorabilia and the CF group made a hell of a lot of money at the auction night.
Its strange, and maybe i should put this on the 'vent' board, but our national health service wastes ?40,000 on a 'marble stone' or our govenment pays ?5 million for a logo for the olympics it makes me :bang: my head grrr
It would cost the NHS only ?10 million to find a cure for CF, approx one years wages for a footballer!
Oh life' now ive wound myself up lol.....better get back to work.

ah well, i got my POW bracelet with good intentions...
but now...
matt has made me feel like...
a POSER
just kidding! ya, trendy charity bracelets make me think of the WWJD bracelets, good intention, but when you wear it to fit in with the trend, it kinda loses its true meaning, but atleast all us posers spending a measly dollar adds up to millions of posers and millions of dollars so there is a positive spin

OMG... I finally broke down and got one. It's jet black with the words, "Music = Life." It's a thing Hot Topic is doing to help keep music in schools.

I had a livestrong band for my wife's uncle who died from cancer and I also had one of the music = life black bands from hot topic, and I wore them for what they supported, not for fashion, but once they were everywhere I just felt like a poster as andrea said and stopped wearing them..

There's a great one for Tug McGraw (father of country star Tim McGraw) with the letters YGB for "You Gotta Believe". It's actually like the leather & strings from a baseball. I believe it's for cancer awareness, as he died of brain cancer. If you've ever seen Tim's video for "Live Like You Were Dying", it contains clips of Tug in it.

I'm still wearing my wristband since Oct 05 even though they have gone out of fashion with other people here. Even though i'm not into fashions or fads, they were a big thing that summer but i rarely see anyone else still wearing them now. That probably just shows that the people then were just wearing them because of a phase.
Mine is half yellow/half light blue. Its for a charity called Aware which deals with depression. On the blue part its written 'Beat The Blues' and on the yellow part its written 'Gread an ghruaim' which means the same thing in Irish

Welcome to the forum Jekil!!!!! I am soooo pleased you joined. Can't believe you're in Dublin! I'm from Dublin but now live in Wicklow.
As soon as I saw you mention AWARE I just had to look at where you were from as I know that's an Irish charity.
Look forward to getting to know you

wow those bands sound awesome, I wish I could get one of those. I always wanted to get one that stood for something that I could sort of relate to or something that personally effected me. Depression is something that'd been around me my whole life. That wrist band sounds great.

We had a girl at my school who used to wear about 10 or 11 each on both rists and she said she never took them off. She always felt the need to tell us that she showered with them.. That pretty much killed them for me..
