No, not about 0304, so this isnt another 0304 related thread. I was watching "Awesomely Bad Career Moves" on VH1. They all of a sudden were talking about how famous artists at the height of their suceess and fame ruin it all with a poetry book. They started playing "WWSYS" and I didn't think VH1 would dare making fun of Jewel. And they did. And I freaked out. And I screamed at the TV. They said that Jewel is a legend and this comedian girl named Bex comes on and says "Everyone loves Jewel, all they guys think she's gorgeous and want to make out with her and all the girls say 'Jewel has imperfections, just like me'" and basically they read "Sausages" refer to ANWA to see what is says, its a really funny poem. So they moved on and left me wondering if I was in a nightmare or real life.
Oh, btw Smashing pumpkins lead singer and Britney Spears were the other ones that were made fun of.

I don't have cable, so I didn't see it. Maybe it was just a misinterpretation of the poem? I don't have ANWA, so I never heard it. But it seems a lot of people(mostly non Jewel fans) misinterpret her music & lyrics, especially since 0304. They just don't understand her. I guess that means she has a very deep & creative mind that surpasses the likes of us "normal" humans ;)

I wish VH1 would just focus on music like they are supposed to instead of knocking down artists with all the stupid "Awesomely" shows that they air. Awesomely Bad Hair, Bad Videos, Badder videos, Bad Career Moves, etc... God forbid they would have Awesomely Talented Artists. I haven't really read her poetry book but I know it did quite well.

Sausages is one of her weirder poems. For those who haven't heard or read it, here it is:
Sausages
While leaving the airport,
a gypsy woman stole my luggage.
She wore a rice paper mask over he eyes.
A mole showed neatly on her chin,
hairless. She laughed while sausages
fell from her pockets in heavy shivers.
I hope she misses them sorely.
I'm not at all surprised that they made fun of her poetry. It's almost a given nowadays and makes me less of a fan of the station than what I was a couple years ago. Not just because they make fun of Jewel, but artists in general. Both MTV and MTV2 have gone extremely downhill also.

basically - if u haven't noticed - they love making fun of the biggest stars because they know it'll get people's attentions....
in a way - we should think of this as a complement to jewel in a way that's she is famous enough that people love to talk about her -
also, i'm not fond of them making fun of her - but that poem just doesn't seem like a poem....many of hers don't - no offense jewel - u wrote them when u were a little girl - lol
oh well....those networks have to come up with something to play.......
playing the same ole' music videos gets old!
I avoid watching VH1 at all. Most of their programing is mindless garbage and has been for years. The countdown shows are the worst. They do an occasional good biography and I have enjoyed a few of the "Bands Reunited" episodes, but the rest is mostly crap.
Heck, I remember when VH1 and MTV played just videos with only a few actual programs when they first came out. It's gone steadily downhill since then along with much of television. Anybody else remember watching MTV's game show called "Remote Control?" Or the British comedy called "The Young Ones" that played on MTV? I have to admit I had a crush on Martha Quinn the MTV "VJ". I also remember a show called "The Cutting Edge" that showcased the "cool" music scene in the early 80's. It used to come on at about midnight.
VH1 and MTV have really evolved from music video channels to 24 hour video tabloids. It's all about the shock factor. :bunnyjump:

that's b/c 0304 they deep down know it wasn't a career mistake - but rather something she's always wanted to do....
how can u tell jewel that doing what she's wanted to do for years is a mistake? that's just like stealing candy from a baby...lol
Like this: "Jewel that hat is a bad career move. Not as bad as 0304, but almost." :P

Jewel's demonstrates the power of poetry in this response to her critics:

I saw that the other day... man, that poem was funny.
They have made fun of 0304/"Intuition" on VH1's All Access: Awesomely Bad Videos. She is featured in the "Bad Transformations" part of the episode, along with Liz Phair and Madonna.

Sorry to interrupt, but this (like almost all other topics) is turning into another I hate/love 0304 topic. can we please get back on topic?? i was going to say that i live off of MTV and VH1 but i have to admit MTV has been going downhill with dating shows such as Room Raiders, Next, and Wanna Come In? But, I definatly like the newer seasons of Real World and Road Rules. I think it was a matter of time that they made fun of her. But hey, its all in good spirit. They're just trying to get ratings and have some fun. I would make fun of her too if i could, but, thats ASPCJ's job, not mine. :-)

OMG... i was just channel surfing and i saw jewel's sweet little face on VH1 it was the WWSYS video... they were making fun of her poetry. Realistically though.. her poetry did better than any of the other artists they mentioned. I own the book and I have to say Sausages is probably the most bizarre thing i've ever read.
Oh yeah... and was that really her on there saying 'you're a smart-ass for pointing that out?"

I beleive it is Ireland. There was a group of photos posted on the old official site a year or two ago.
I just posted them in the Photo Sharing thread.

it's more like......he says something about that line.....
and he says that casualty isn't used correctly....that it means a dead soldier = not the sense of casualness
jewel's like it means casualness
and he says that don't exist in that way (which it technically does)
and then she says.......You're a dumbass for pointing that out
and then in a mad way "NEXT TOPIC"
lol....he was an ass and made that oh so boring - the word can mean both things - he just needs to spread his wings

If I was Kurt Loder I would have also asked about the Morning Song line:
Put the phone machine on hold
How do you put a phone machine on hold? :)

put the phone machine on hold - better way of saying turn it off - hold the calls - put someone on hold - or just don't check the answering machine
MrSoAndSo

There's no need to put a phone machine on hold. It answers for you and takes the message. That's why you bought it in the first place! :)

maybe it means to turn the ringer and volume off ????
but basically what i think she's saying...it's got messages on it - and she's saying to avoid them and just not think about them (kinda like your to do list - just don't do it now)
WhatWouldJewelDo

dont blame Jewel for saying "put the phone machine on hold", she's obviously technology-challenges, i mean, come on, she grew up in rural ALASKA!!! she probably didnt even use a "phone machine" until she went to interlochen. so i dont blame her. lol.
