Elizabeth from the EDA list also shared her experience. Big Thanks to Elizabeth for allowing us to share this here.

This is her account of the evening:

man oh man ... I'm a Jewel high. *sigh*

The show at Spaceland <http://clubspaceland.com/upcoming.html> was
fantastic. All you haters shut up. All the other artists were really good
too. Check out this dude <http://myspace.com/kingnicholson> and this
girl<http://www.shannacrooks.com/>.
They worked the stage. I also loved how well John Rich and Jewel got along.
I really look forward to Jewel's new country album. I just love the fact
that I got to see her in this tiny club (probably 100-150 people) for $8
($12 with the service charge). This show was brought to us by
MuzikMafia<http://www.muzikmafia.com/about.php>(Muzik Without
Prejudice).

So ... from memory, I believe Jewel sang

- Near You Always (forgets words ... a few times)
- Foolish Games
- Social anxiety disorder story
- Intuition
- Thump Thump (new song)
- You Were Meant For Me
- Kiss Your Ass (OMGOMGOMFG ... even though it was only the first
verse)
- Kermit story
- Who Will Save Your Soul

This showcase was really interesting. Jewel was really gracious to the other
artists there. She was respectful and attentive and really shared the
spotlight. John was too. It was just awesome. Also, John friggin bought
drinks for EVERYONE!!! He was like ... from now until we leave, it's on ME.
How crazy!!! He can afford it I guess. But see, THAT is what music is about.
Sharing the art and the love. Anyway, since they were drinking ... it got a
little spunky. We got to see Jewel's "saucy" side ... I love the dirty,
swearing Jewel. It's just funny sometimes. Although, I did think that her
singing wasn't the best I've seen her at (which might be attributable to the
drinking ... but it's still Jewel and I can't complain that much.

Oh, and of course! While this certain battle was going on (see video below),
Jewel starts "Kiss Your Ass". When was the last time she even sang that
song??? She sings one line then says she forgot the words and asked Larry if
he remembered the words (which made it the 3rd time she asked him that night
- twice during Near You Always if you're keeping count). Anyway, I had
brought my "fan book" with me on a whim and finally I get to use it! I
scream out that I have the lyrics and she called me up! It was so cool! So
once I was there of course I was snapping pictures left and right.

And that is why, I'm on a Jewel High.

Oh, and forgive the quality of the video. Excuse my shakiness as I freak out
because she called me up to give her the lyrics.

Kiera, you should move your post to a new thread. The Spaceland show was in California on Saturday night; it'd be good to draw more attention to your post if it had its own thread. :)

Doh - that would have been logical to do, wouldn't it? Don't know what I was thinking. Anyway, Good suggestion so it's now done.

Jewel, John Rich lead a talent showcase

By Mikael Wood, Special to The Times

The music of Jewel can be described in many ways: Pretty. Unabashedly romantic. Wispy. But hard-core it is not.

Saturday at Spaceland, though, John Rich — half of the million-selling country duo Big & Rich — asked the capacity crowd: "How bad-ass was that?" Jewel had just played "Near You Always," a fragile folk-pop ballad from her blockbuster debut, "Pieces of You." The answer? Not very.

Still, you had to forgive Rich's enthusiasm, since he was onstage for a good cause: Nashville Meets L.A., a cozy songwriters' showcase he and Jewel (whose new album Rich is producing) put together to drum up interest in a few acts from Muzik Mafia, the musicians' collective Rich and his partner "Big" Kenny Alphin created with Gretchen Wilson and Cowboy Troy.

The Mafia's motto is "muzik without prejudice," and if that promises more excitement than even Big & Rich usually muster, on Saturday it reflected the variety of talent on display. Jon Nicholson, a portly fellow with a bald pate, sang handsome soul tunes about being "a little bit shy of the big time" and feeling like a loser in a winner's world. Shanna Crooks trimmed tough-minded love songs with Christina Aguilera-grade melisma. Trevor Rosen, Crooks' accompanist, played one of his originals, "You Already Know My Love."

Of course, fans forked over their $8 to see Jewel and Rich perform in an unusually intimate setting, and neither star disappointed.

Jewel slowed down hits such as "You Were Meant for Me" and "Foolish Games," luxuriating in the misery of heartbreak. Rich did gender-bent versions of Wilson's "Redneck Woman" and Faith Hill's "Mississippi Girl," both of which he wrote. Guess who was more hard-core?

Ya know, the more I watch those videos, the more I think John Rich has fallen in love with our Jewel. Even his comments at the recording studio for the Good Life ad made me think he just adores her. Poor guy!

Hi everyone! Hmm ... I wasn't sure if I signed up to be a member of this forum and lo and behold, I guess I DID sign up for it. Anyway, those pictures and youtube clips were from me :) I'm glad you guys liked them. I wish more people could see Jewel at her best and see her at small places like these. While the other artists were good, I have to say, I wish there was more Jewel :)

For some reason my hand was SO shaky, even from the beginning so my other video of her sucks. I guess I was so excited that my hands shook. It sounds so lame, but she takes my breath away each time I see her perform live. Corny, I know.

ETA: Oh wait. I guess I didn't sign up as my "join date" says April 2007. Hehe. *embarassed* carry on ...

Thanks Elizabeth! Good of you to join too. People here are really thankful for your kind sharing and the videos really are excellent. Looked like a great gig. You're very lucky to have been able to go.

There is a concert in Vegas on 9th June, maybe you'll be lucky and be able to go to that as well.

(by the way - you joined April 6th)

LOL! Well ... I guess I DID join earlier. Jeez. I'm only 24 and my memory is lacking so much that I've forgotten what I've done a mere 3 weeks earlier. That's kind of ... sad. Now, let's hope I can retain some information for my final exams next week!

What is this concert in June? Can you give me the details? Don't get my hopes up!
