Heh, I first saw that site ( http://www.savetoby.com ) back in February and I still think it's just a joke. It's like that one site, http://www.bonsaikitten.com. These sites are made simply to stir people up and get them to think that they're real when they actually aren't. If you don't believe me though, here's a page about it from snopes.com, a site that confirms whether certain urban legends and such are true or false:

It's amazing to see people get wrapped up in things like this, though.

hmmm.....so it's a joke...i thought something was fishy.... though it was on msn.com and usa today or something like that.... i just thought it'd go well with our BUNNY craze @ the NEW JEWEL FORUM B) :lovejkf:
I think this is real. I saw a report about this yesterday on the TV and they showed the internet host who refused to take down the website. They also called the guy who was doing it and he said he was very serious. He will eat the rabbit if his demands are not meet.
It's certainly not illegal or even unethical to eat a rabbit. I've ordered it at a restaurant in California that serves rabbit as a specialty. The service was kind of slow and after a long delay the waiter came to my table and said "I have good news. We've caught the rabbit and we should have your dinner ready soon."
I don't see eating a rabbit as any different than eating a chicken. In fact the rabbits raised for food are probably treated much more humanly than chickens. I think people will eventually pay these people the $50,000 and that's sad because he'll probably just go out and eat a chicken. I say don't send them any money at all. Do you know how many animals you could save if people donated the $50,000 to an animal shelter? Certainly many more than one.

I don't know, I'm still skeptical. One thing being, if it was a joke, do you think the guy would just come out and say so? Probably not since the point of sites like these are to make them seem as real as absolutely possible. If he went through all that trouble to put the site together, why would he admit to it being fake with over 2 months to go? Of course, I may be wrong, but I still think it's a joke for the time being.

Hey, maybe there is more than one of these and I am confusing yours with the one I just saw. They said they were afraid that if he gets money then copycats might spring up all over the internet. Next people might be eating not just rabbits, but cats, puppies, and every kind of cute pet that ever was born. It could be the end of the world as we know it.
Heck, I saw a guy with the signature "For every animal a vegetarian does not eat, I'm going to eat two." Now that I am sure was a joke.

I came across that site awhile ago and reported it to PETA. The threat is most likely hollow. Just some sick kid trying to get money.

(written with a distinct note of sarcasm) i think that it is really lame that someone can get paid all that money just so he won't eat a rabbit, and in saying that i mean no hatred, or malice to bunnies. there are so many more productive ways to spend your time and money
maybe if i make a website saying if i dont get 300,000 dollars i am going to eat a horse, then everyone else will fund my girls college tuition for me, then i also wont have to actually eat a horse, because how could i eat poor horse anyways?
speaking of horses, is it possible to make a horse icon thingy? :dunno: that would "totally rock dude" to quote my 4-yr old

I've seen that website before, and it's just a really stupid excuse (whether it's true or not) to get money. You're donating money to prevent someone from eating a rabbit...don't get me wrong, I'd like the rabbit to live, but it's so wrong and so stupid to do something like Toby's owner is doing. I feel really sorry for Toby, for more than one reason.
