that's cool that you can write so much German, we had a friend from Austria living with us for a while and I made very pitiful attempts at learning German, how long did it take you to learn it?

I took German in High school too, but I'm afraid to speak it around people that can actually speak it because mind sounds weird from being around Amish people growing up.

Well, thank you Andrea! I took it under public sutdy for three years, private study for one year, and a total of including that with indvidual independent study, six years.

I was trying during my first year at college to become a linguist for the governemtn, but unfurtunately, they needed some form of collegiate education or native ability, and I had neither at the time. But, I like to think that I have a first class handle on my studies, and I have every faith in my linguistic abilities.

I'm just waiting for the girl to respond back!

Jones

BTW, Ironically enough when I first was introduced into a Reserve Officers Training Corps unit, since I studied German so hheavily, they all nicknamed me 'The German'. Thhe nickname stuck for several years and I still hahve friends who I will see out somewhere who simply call me not by my surname, but 'Hey, German!' It's funny, older times of younger youth.

Andrea, you should just stick with Spanish, face it, it'll be the most important language to learn in our lifetimes.

You have that right, in the past 10 years it is amazing to see how many mexicans are around here (the NC area), I don't know if I never noticed it before recently or what. Now don't take that to mean that I have anything against them, if they are working here legally then good for them. On the news the other night they were saying that the number of mexican immigrants are beginning to exceed the number of african-americans as the biggest minority group.
The times they are a-changing

I believe Denver is around 51 % hispanic now. I love it. I love the culture, I love the people, and I love the food! I love the celebrations! There is even a couple of restaurants that accept pesos! Of course there has been big controversy about that and all the illegal immigration. I don't know how I feel about all the immigration stuff... I do believe that our economy might collapse if there were no illegal immigrant--it DEFINITELY keeps costs down. But at the same time then, these people are being exploited--but then they are here illegally. So I go around and around and around again...

To add to my above post. I just read that Colorado is going to launch a program this spring to have inmates work on the farms... interesting solution to the lack of labor!

Here at the University we have the following:

Total: 18,000 students spread over 3 campus's

out of them they are made up of the following:

56% Chinese
23% Asian
15% East European
4% English/Irish
2% Other

so, you can ask WHY so many non UK students, well, the simple answer is this. The UK government get approx 3 times more money from the government of that student than a UK resident. Then Tony Blair talks about Education for Britians youth, hmmm, perhaps he thought he was in Bejing at the time.
