Singer JEWEL has slammed reports she is engaged to her rodeo-star boyfriend TY MURRAY. Although the couple have been dating for eight years, they have no plans to tie the knot. She tells American publication Us Weekly, "We're not engaged." Jewel, real name, JEWEL KILCHER, insists she's content with the couple's current status, adding, "I'm really happy!" She says, "Ty is a stand-up guy in a world of flakes. He acts just like JOHN WAYNE!" Despite his tough exterior, she claims he does have a softer side. She explains, "He writes me love letters, which nobody would know about him." Murray adds, "She's the writer. I'm not very good, but every Christmas, birthday and Valentine's Day, we write each other. "It's been a tradition for the last eight years!"

I know it's not 'News' as such but I thought I'd share it seeing as it was only posted on Contact Music today.

Ohh. Thats so sweet!
Man, I wish I had a relationship like that; it sounds l ike t hey are doing very well, and i'm awfully glad for them. It's also nice that they aren't pressed by current societal beliefs of confindings of mamrraige. Jolly good.

They're monogamous, intimate, loving, and living together...isn't that what marriage is...only without the ring? I don't see what the differences is; as far as I'm concerned Ty's her husband. I'd prefer it the traditional way, you know, with the ceremony, but as long as they have a structured stable lasting loving relationship, I don't see who they're hurting and what the difference is besides the ring and ceremony. Like I said, I'm doing my marriage the traditional way because a) I feel more comfortable doing it that way and b) It's part of my religion. But Jewel doesn't have a religion so I don't know how a ceremony would work for her anyway.

I'm not sure that she doesn't have a religion. It seems to be something she keeps very private.
Melinda...I totally agree with what you're saying. They have a better relationship than a lot of people have in marriage. There is a lot less reason to marry nowadays but I'm glad people still think it sacred here in Ireland. Nobody goes into it lightly.
I've been with Peter a long time, longer than Jewel is with Ty, and we only got married last year. We were in no rush just to please society. Jewel and Ty should be free to do as they please and not have to answer to anyone about marriage but themselves.

I know she is not engaged but what was up with that ring last night on her finger??? WOW...
I'm trying to find a picture...I know back in 2002 she was wearing a ring on "the" finger, but she said it was a ring from her record company...I don't know if it is the same ring??

I think it is. It's a huge diamond ring she got from the record company. She wears it a lot but normally on her right hand instead.
If you could get a pic, great. I'd love to see it in case it isn't the same ring.

Is this the ring you're talking about? If so, then yep, that's the one she got from the record label.
