I love Race Car Driver, it cracks me up, all I can picture is some greased up guy in a silk animal print shirt with the big aviator sunglasses or some other really bad 70's cliche
Hey, that's 80's, and what the hell is wrong with looking like that? I usually wear solid colour floral shades, though, dress shirts made of fine Sea Island Cotton or heavy silk. What other pair of sungalsses would men wear? Maui Jims, maybe. But Ray Ban Aviators are the classic men's sunglasses. Only problem is people guess you're a cop, and people notice the Ray-Ban label, and think a real cop couldn't afford them.
Never heard Race Car Driver, though. I've heard the monologue behind it, from Instant Live, but never heard the actual song.

Haha! I love your enthusiasm, Jones!
You know, so do I. I wouldtell you the things I love doing when listening to Prince, but I'd get kicked of the forum, soooo...............Anyways, there's nothing like driving to work, Blasting Prince on the stereo with the speakers screaming out something. And then you stop at a stoplilght beside some guys listening to rap, looking all 'gangster', and they look over to hear "Purple Rain". You givethem that look that says "You say a word and I'll kill you by myself!" they quickly turn around.
Just like at the record store, you've got to be brave to walk up to the counter with aPrinceCD (Look at the cover of Lovesexy, Google Prince Lovesexy)
You walk up to the counter and the guy takes the CD and looks at it for a second, and looks back at you. You've got to give him that look, you know, the "I'll beat your @$$ if you say a word!" Look. Usually the next thing you say is, "Don't look at me, look at the register! BAG IT! No, paper, not plastic. Okay, PAPER BAG!"

Prince!--Little Red Corvette And, yes, I thought of you Jones! Do you drive a little red corvette?
Actually a little 84 black one. Itold you, I grew up a little obsessed with wanting to be Don JOhnson, whihch is probably why I do what I do now, and i couldn't afford a used 80's Ferrari, and the Corvette I snagged was a steal, bought in 2001 with only 69,000 miles on it. SOme dude kept it in his garage and never used it, so I was happy. Paid him in cash that day, and drove off into the sunset.
So yes, I have a Corvette, but not red. Had to have the Miami Vice car (They acutally stunt doubled a black 84 Corvette for some of the scenes, soooo.....)
BTW, knowing Prince as well as I do, that song isn't about a car. It's aobut, well, you know....first time and all.....you get the picture.

Was it something I said, Awiste. Didn't mean it like that, LRC is aobut Prince going to a girl's house, only to discover what (gentlemanly word) a promiscuous and forward lady she is. Hence with the lyrics, "She had a pocket full of Trojans, some have been used." and "You're the kind of person who believes in making it once, and never last" or it could be "I guess I should have closed my eyes when you drove me to the places where my horses run free, 'cause I felt a little ill, at seeing all the picture of the jockeys there before me".
Yeah....[clears throat] YUP!!!! That song is about a car!

beastie boys - an open letter to nyc
Destinos de Abril- kinda reminds me of another time at another place. I was in a nightclub and heard it last night, and I was shocked! Hadn't heard that one since sitting on a nanner truck in Barranquilla. So, my lonely self couldn't exactly grab one of the hot Latina girls and start dancing, I was their on business.
Great song, you all should check it out. If you speak Spanish, it means a lot, but if you don't, it's still a great song to listen to. I frst head this song when I was riding on the back of a banana tuck in Barranquilla, hitching a ride through a jungle. The guy had one of thsoe little handheld rigs, and it's always fun listening to internaitonal radio, always different forms of the news.

All I've got to say to you all....is that....
I am currently listening to 'Goodbye Horses'.
My buddy coworker came into the house with a six pack of beers and was ready to watch the game. He busts in the door and hollers out, "OKAY! I'VE GOT THE BEERS!"
Then he sees me sitting in the corner alone in theh dark listening to this song, and the speakers beside my head, and he freezes in frame. He sets the beer down and comes over to look at me. he leans in and looks at me and says, "How long have you been here, listening to this?"
"I don't know, about four hours of this on repeat over and over again."
He looks at me coldly, and says "Man, you aren't trying to draw psycho penchant. You really are crazy."
How does me finding meaning in this wonderful song have to make me crazy?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=xBDeH_nPJm4&mode=related&search=
Any opinions?
awiste

Perhaps he think its crazy that you sat and listened to the song on repeat for four hours and not the fact that you find meaning in the song.
oh and I'm listening to little kids outside screaming. What are they screaming about?!?!?
Could be?
Or it could be that that particular song is the one thhat Buffalo Bill stripped to on camera in "Silence of the Lambs". i just realized that after I Googled it. Yup, if I caught someone listening to that alone, I'd be a little freaked out, too.

Now, I'm not normally a hip hop fan, as I enjoy harcore Southern rock, Skynard, Allman Brothers, Daniels, Tucker, and the Ozarks.
But I was listening to a 'recording' of something in a nightclub, and behind the conversation was this really interesting soong, with a great beat. I'd never heard it before, but it was Justin Timberlake's "My Love". Interesting stuff, so I guess I'm listening to "My Love", went out and snagged the album today.
