All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

le sigh, alas, i think I had started a wonderful quotes thread back on Ye Olde Forrume...but as Marc so eloquently puts it, it went tits up...so
thanks for starting a new one!
Well, I don't read german philosophy much, but I do like alot of random song quotes
"Watch out for the ricochet, 'cause it all comes back" -Ricochet, Paranoid Social Club- makes me think before I speak...sometimes
I am too tired to think of interesting intellectual stuff so I may just revert to immaturity...

ok I could spout out Aimee Mann quotes all day long...
"Kicking is hard, but the bottom's harder"
"This is how it goes
One more failure to connect
With so many how could I object
And you, what on earth did you expect
Well I can't tell you baby
When this is how it goes"
"Acting steady always ready to defend your fears
What's the matter with the truth, did I offend your ears
By suggesting that a change might be a thing to try
Like it would kill you just to try and be a nicer guy"

This Aimee Mann! cant say, i'v ever heard of this lass ever before, seems an intelligent lady with some Wise quotes and remarks :)
How true Daddy's words were when he said: "all children must look after their own upbringing". Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.
Anne Frank
For some reason i find Ann Franks wise words very moving, always puts a lump in my throat, one very intelligent little girl...her diaries of which i have read, was the wisest and most moving ever...a voice for six million people.

I really like that quote Marc, I've never really heard many Anne Frank quotes before.
This is a quote I heard on the radio from some caller, they were doing a show on quotes I think or something in that category. The girl who called in said her father would always say this, applying to problems in life:
"Unless someone died, then it can be fixed"

Hmm, you know I always mean to read the diaries of Anne Frank, and then I always forget. I will have to do that. To be able to overcome all that she did is just incredible!
Why do I always have a good quote in my mind, then by the time I get to the forum, it is gone?

Just to "piggy back" off the Jimmy Eat World quote (cuz I love Jimmy Eat World)

-Why do you like playing around with my, narrow scope of reality, I can feel it all start slipping I think I'm breaking down- Stupify, Disturbed
-Peace sells, but no one's buying, 'cause Love's been losing jobs- Ricochet, Paranoid Social Club
-And you run and you run, to catch up with the sun but it's sinking, and racing around to come up behind you again, the sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older, and shorter of breath and one day closer to death, every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time, plans that ither come to naught, or half a page of scribbled rhyme, hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way, the time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say- Breathe, Pink Floyd
-So, so you think you can tell, Heaven from Hell? Blue skies from pain? Can you tell a green field, from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?- Wish you were here, Pink Floyd
-I was just wondering if you'd come along, hold up my head when my head won't hold on, I'll do the same if the same's what you want...- Stone, Dave Matthews Band
-All the little ants are marching, red and black antennae wave, they all do it the same, they all do it the same way- Ants Marching, Dave Matthews Band

-Whenever I get to feel this way, hard to find new words to say, I think about the bad old days, we used to know...- We Used To Know, Jethro Tull, one of my all time favorite songs!
Eibhlin
02-14-2007, 12:33 AM
And, one last excerpt from Jethro Tull, this is my favorite part of the veeery long song "Baker St. Muse"
[Crash-Barrier Waltzer]
And here slip I
dragging one foot in the gutter
in the midnight echo of the shop that sells cheap radios.
And there sits she
no bed, no bread, no butter
on a double yellow line
where she can park anytime.
Old Lady Grey; crash-barrier waltzer
some only son's mother. Baker Street casualty.
Oh, Mr. Policeman
blue shirt ballet master.
Feet in sticking plaster
move the old lady on.
Strange pas-de-deux
his Romeo to her Juliet.
Her sleeping draught, his poisoned regret.
No drunken bums allowed to sleep here in the crowded emptiness.
Oh officer, let me send her to a cheap hotel
I'll pay the bill and make her well - like hell you bloody will!
No do-good over kill. We must teach them to be still more independent.

"Come on try a little, nothing is forever, there's got to be something better than in the middle, me and Cinderella put it all together and we can drive it home, with one headlight" -One Headlight? Wallflowers-

sorry guys I hope I am not overkilling the Aimee quotes (let me know if it gets out of hand) ha!
"Say you were split, you were split in fragments
And none of the pieces will talk to you
Wouldn't you want to be who had them
Well, maybe I want that too"
"So better take the keys and drive forever
staying won’t put these futures back together
all the perfect drugs and superheroes
wouldn't be enough to bring me up to zero"

Sure i'v put this in here an age ago before!!??
either way...its prolly been forgotten about by now! :p
I was not put here by anyone in fear
I came alone as me
Just an idea in a long chain of discovery
Surrounded by the same you
Sometimes your tide pulls me out to sea
And I die in a thrashing curse
Sometimes we are kind
More often, I doze
So far up the beach that those who try to reach are burnt alive in the searing
heat of the desert of my dispassion
So far removed, I never hear the water
'Cept once or twice a month when I see a mirror
And I refuse to believe in some of the things that are said to be here
Let alone those that are not
I'm trying to change my direction
Ours is pathetic in my own humble estimation
I love the planet
The great benign she-wolf
Benefactor
Spinning gently on towards the red giant four aeons hence
When all the rose gardens are consumed in the flash-fire of flying time
She'll leave alone to you
-Anathema-

oooh and i was meant to comment on
We are all in the gutter...but some of us are looking at the stars
..you know i feel alot from that quote, there ALOT of precept or meaning behind those words, especialy the stars...meaning you look to the stars for meaning of life because they are creation themselves! look to the future or just make a wish on what you want or become...and then theres just the plain old gutter :coffee22: what more is there to be said...i'll shut the hell up now.... :yammer:

brace yourself, this isn't a Tull song!

Beating our wings against the walls of this place
Unaware that the struggle is the blood of the proof
In choosing to believe the unbelievable truth"

Strong Hand Of Love
Down peppers the rain from a clear blue sky
Down trickles a tear on a youthful face
Feeling in haste and wondering why
Up struggles the sun from a wounded night
Out venture our hearts from their silent shrouds
Trying to ignite but wondering how
We can laugh and we can cry
And never see the strong hand of love hidden in the shadows
We can dance and we can sigh
And never see the strong hand of love hidden in the shadows
Young dreamers explode like popped balloons
Some kind of emotional rodeo
Learning too slow and acting too soon
Time marches away like a lost platoon
We gracefully age as we feel the weight
Of loving too late and leaving too soon
We can laugh and we can cry
And never see the strong hand of love hidden in the shadows
We can dance and we can sigh
And never see the strong hand of love hidden in the shadows
