Ok peeps

As some of you already know I'm working on my Jewel research paper. The question is "Why is Jewel not as popular as she was at the start of her career?" and so I need ya'lls help with this survey. I know all of us here are Jewel fans but I'm hoping most of you can give me your honest opinion on this. I appreciate the help and will be using the info I gather in my paper...thanks!!

my instinct was that i liked her better in the beginning.. i guess just because it made me a fan.. idk I just really like alot of her older songs.

I'm not saying that i don't like her now though lol

i liked her work more in the beginning but i will alway lover her work because i know what she can do. I know no matter what she does, that first album will always be proof of her talent. I have liked all of her albums since in different ways but she has proved to evolve

I liked her during This Way that was when I really got hooked on her. I love all her stuff now though.

i chose the first one because.. I guess I liked the feel of her music.. I really like the acoustic sound and most of POY is acoustic. plus all the real audio files I have are basically old.. and they are acoustic with awesome lyrics

I don't know why, but I find that I really enjoy watchin videos from the start of her career.. because she seemed a bit different then.. like she was it, she had no band to rely on.. and i think I like her that way. TOTALLY ACOUSTIC.
Her talent really shows when she gives it her all with just a guitar.

I love everything she has EVER done nontheless, but I really enjoy the earlier stuff.

Her earlier stuff is the best, but it doesn't mean I still don't dig her newer stuff. But her first record is what made me a fan.

My favorite albums are GAIW and 0304. Once 0304 came along, here music just got better. Her singing styles, everything. Taking that pop album and evolving into GAIW!? WOW! GAIW Is so powerful! So well thought! So well put together! The greatness of 0304 is just as good! Taking the great writing styles (Old spice is nice, but sweat is better? E-mail is cool, but romance lives in a letter? Its so rediculas its good!) and adding it to that funky, fun music? Its great! Her last 2 albums can never get old, unlike her 1st one. It gets boring. Minus Little sister, that will be great forever. It can go on forever!

Example:

I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one and I'll love you when I am the only one TOOOOO!

I chose 0304 cause after that, her music will never disapoint.

I was close to choosing the This Way period because musically that's where I enjoy her the most, between Spirit and This Way. Only I wasn't really a fan back then... so I based my answer on how I feel about her as a person and I just think right now she's really clear-headed and you can tell in her songs. I don't necessarily think they are better than the older stuff (that doesn't mean they are bad either) They just have such realism now. I just like how mature she is now and her ability to keep it real.

Exactly what i think and feel.... I just love watching/ listening to her regardless what style she's into.
I love Jewel who rocks.
I love Jewel the poet.
I love Jewel the actress.
I love Jewel who yodels.
I even love Jewel who danced with Beyonce, she was so cute...
That performance alone made me realize how honest Jewel could be---
...as a person.
...and as a performer....

This Way. The album really shows a stronger Jewel, lyrically and musiclaly. The songs are better structured, better arrangements, and vocally is one of her better albums. I love the Indian vocal wail on "Serve the Ego."

I think people enjoy early Jewel because she had some roughness to her performances, unseasoned in a way. Just watch early Jewle perform live and her now. Obviously there is growth but she is much more polished and less "raw." Oh good example: Remember how Jewel used to fiddle with her hands and wave them about when she sang without her guitar. She doesn't do that anymore. Much more composed performer these days. Some like it, some don't.

Very simply, I think that people in general do not like honest music anymore. They want music that moves them physically rather than mentally or emotionally. It's sad in a way, but as long as she perseveres I think she may end up being one of the biggest names in music like Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, even up there with Bob Dylan.
