Anyone ever notice there's a line in this song (His Pleasure Is My Pain) that is also found in "Do You Want To Play", from the This Way album?? It is "Are you only half alive or have you always been this inarticulate?" It's the first time I ever noticed it, so thought I'd share here. I know someone had said this line is from someone else's writing. Who wrote it first?

I'm pretty sure the line is from "Do you want to play" and not "Break Me"

Anais Nin was a writer of erotica... and I believe she is well known for her diaries that were published? I don't really know much about her.

it just made me think of break me when they mentioned Anais Nin

Yeah it was Anais Nin. She was an author who was popular in the 70's. I have 2 of her books. She has quite a sharpness to her writing that I can see why Jewel likes her so much.

The Break Me line "you could hurt me with the sharp edge of what you say" is from Bonnie Rait if I'm not mistaken. or is it Emmylou Harris (sp?)?? Oh well...

Yeah Jewel loves that saying and always planned to add it to a song. I think it's a great saying too and have used it a couple of times.

In the 'This Way' liner notes for the song Break Me, she states: "There is also a line in here Rickie Lee Jones let me use because I thought it was perfect. It's 'sharp end of what you say'."

Don't ask me who Rickie Lee Jones is, but thought I'd help clear this up for us. :)

Yeah, Rickie Lee Jones!! That's the one, hehe... She's a country-rock singer. Or is it Bonnie Rait? Or is it both??

lol...
