It has officially been announced by the Vatican that Pope John Paul II has died.

This is a sad day for so many across the globe, not just Catholics.
He was a truly wonderful man who suffered much during his lifetime but still remained in love with life.

I now pray that his soul moves onto the next step that God has planned for him.

I also feel for Catholics in this time of grief. Pope John Paul was a very nice man who stood up for moral values in the face of opposition. I admired his courage and positions on many issues. He will be missed by many people.

I really feel truly horrible, but I know that God has a much better afterlife planned for him. He really was a magnificent person. He really did accomplish a lot more than a lot of the other Popes. He brought peace to so many people and he truly was a role model, not only for Catholics and for everyone who has given their faith to Jesus, but for so many more people who beleive in peace and harmony. He was a great man and I know that God has ended his suffering and taken him to a place where he can have eternal happiness.

OMG.. the daily numbers today for the lotto were 6-6-6. NO LIE! It's a sign, it's gotta be.

Eh, I don't know. I'm always so indifferent toward death and such, even when it comes to my own family. It is sad, but at the same time I'm not surprised at all. He was in his 80's and really sick, so it was pretty much inevitable, I think.

My schools flag is half raised for the pope..
It doesn't offend me but Im sure it does some..
We are not a catholic school.
There is some whole deal aboout Public Schools not being able to have relgious type stuff going on..
It just doesn't make sense to me I thought about bringing it up to my school They could get in some trouble for that if they aren't careful but Oh well.
As far as I am concerned the pope was a good man.
I'm not catholic so I'm not really affected by this

The Pope is not only the leader of a religon, he's a head of state. Vatican City aka "The Holy See" is a separate nation hence there are many non-Catholic presidents, kings, and rulers who attended his funeral. I saw photos of Sheiks and men in traditional Arab dress who went to his funeral. http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/cia98/holy_see_sm98.jpg

It's not really a separation of state issue IMHO. The President decides when and how long flags fly at half staff and he's not even Catholic. Flags flying at half staff is more out of respect and is not a form of religious expression. Now when all McDonalds flew their flags at half staff when their CEO died - now that was controversy. ;)

I'm really surprised that nobody made a big deal about it.
