I said Everything Breaks....I'm addicted to that song. Maybe I'm depressed??? I dunno, but I love it!
You know, these tracks would be on the hypothetical "1 Cd I'd take if I were stuck on an island".....and hopefully I'd have a CD player to go with it!

As you wish! I couldn't decide either so I added 2 extra options.
'Other' in case your favourite isn't on the list
'Can't decide' which is self explanatory really.

Gary and I should go to a Jewel concert and then we'll both scream "I'm Fading" and try to get her to play it. If she doesn't know the lyrics we'll have them on hand hahaha

I ALSO love I'm Fading....that and Everything Breaks are my 2 favs of Jewel's material not on an album. I desperately wish she'd compile some of these songs when she goes "independent", including all of the above mentioned songs!
"Kmart, the bathroom....." An ode to her homeless days of having to wash up in public restrooms...
If you read the book "Angel Standing By" you get even more of an idea what it was like for her during that time. It's such a great book! I recommend everyone get it.

I just realized that technically, Everything Breaks is on a Cd single for Foolish Games....so I guess it really is on a Cd. But not on a major album of hers.

01-10-2007, 01:09 PM
hey I didn't even notice that Carnivore wasn't on there either... tisk tisk all my favorites weren't included so I chose the OTHER option and so since my option gives the option to choose more than one my answers are, in no particular order: I'M FADING, DOWN, and CARNIVORE
and Chris we definately have to yell out I'M FADING. We'll have to talk an entire group of people into doing it though so we can be sure to be heard.

the version of Carnivore I have is so good I forget it's live. I mean the quality is so good that I forget, Jewel is always good, I don't think I have any live tracks where she messes up any... cept maybe the false start on SIBTW

01-11-2007, 02:31 PM
Lol, she's always messing up her songs! She even messes up Grey Matter in This Way:
you've got moth holes in your pocket (should be gold dust)
you've got moth holes in your soul
And she almost always manages to mess up Love Me Just Leave Me Alone... But it's all just charming!
Little Bird
01-11-2007, 02:43 PM
Yeah Love Me Just Leave Me Alone always seems to be one of those songs you can pretty much guarantee she'll mess up.
I think it's endearing though!

01-11-2007, 04:00 PM
I actually like to hear when artists mess up on songs. Not EVERY song of coarse, but if it's a really old song and they are trying to remember lyrics I think it's funny when they forget and the audience has to yell them out.
and hey I never noticed the words were wrong in Grey Matter. I thought the lyrics printed in the This Way insert were printed wrong... I actually like the lyrics the way she "messes them up". I think it sounds better saying moth holes in your pocket, moth holes in your soul.. I think the gold dust line should stick to love me just leave me alone.

Yes she's like any other performer, she makes a little mistake here and there. But I also think she changes her lyrics as she goes sometimes. I personally like the way she sang it on This Way (referring to the above lyrics). There's many songs she sings differently to keep it spontaneous and improvisational.

on the live version of stand she adds lyrics like "doctor" before "king" which made it make sense to me and then it sounds like she changes "all the pain that love brings" to "life brings" or have I been wrong the whole time? and is she saying "so much violence, sins, and silence" and then changes it to "violence ends in silence"???
fabiojj

I also adore If My Heart Were Made Of Gold. It has the best lyrics since she wrote A Long Slow Slide IMO. I love how it has only 2 chorus.

But I was old enough to really experience Jewel's glory days from the beginning. I'm glad of that!! I remember buying the Pieces Of You album......ON CASSETTE!!!! I also have 2 Sega Master system II's. 1 works 1 doesn't. I also have a Sinclair Spectrum. again, still works.
Sorry about going off topic. Had to get that in.
I agree, JewelWiki is great for getting the list of songs and lyrics. You should also check out Pieces of UK (http://www.jewelfan.co.uk) site which also shows the complete catalogue of songs.

So many of her best songs aren't even on albums! "Angel Needs A Ride" is so beautiful and sounds lovely enough as if it was ripped from Pieces Of You. "Everything Breaks" is another gem. (I'm lucky enough to own the Foolish Games EP which has those:) ) I also love the versions of "Building A Summer Home", "Race Car Driver", "Down" and her acoustic version of "Last Dance Rodeo" from her A Life Uncommon DVD; I really wish I could get these on audio!
OK, I just heard a few more ones that I really like:
"A Very Big Girl"- I love it! The vocals and melody are old school jazz, which I dig.
"I've Got The Blues More Than You Do Blues"- Good stuff
"God's Gift To Women"- Love the sarcasm
"Nikos"- This one makes me cry. :MECRY[1]:She's a trooper; if it was my dad who did that I don't know how I ever could have forgiven him.
Ok...I'm trying to like "Flower" but it sounds like such a stereotypical hippie song:sick: But it will probably grow on me.

You take your coat off and throw it on the floor
Night has built you into my arms once more
You feel so familiar as you get into bed
Cigarette smoke halo around you head
You lean over and kiss me so sweet...
I could lay with you like this for hours...
Hours and hours
Building a summer home in your arms
I kiss you with the languid admiration of slumber
Landin' random as lotto numbers
One for each eye
And, oops, one on your nose
And ten for each of your cute little toes
You lean over and kiss me so sweet...
I could lay with you like this for hours...
Hours and hours...
Building a summer home in your arms
Am I crazy, do I talk too much?
Sometimes I think your silence is a crutch
Am I mad, are you married?
Oh Jesus this love stuff can sure be scary
But so sweet... So sweet
Here in your arms
I'm a bit of a mess and I'm gone too much
But when I'm away it's you I long to touch
And certain things remind me it's such a special treat
As these little things that bring you to me
You lean over and kiss me so sweet...
I could lay with you like this for hours...
Hours and hours...
Building a summer home in your arms
I'm building a summer home in your arms
I'm building a summer home in your arms
I'm building a summer home in your arms
Built with all your charms
It's great. :)

I am going with 'She Cries' .. somehow it always turns up in every playlist I make .. just can't seem to get enough of it.
But on a very close second place comes 'Angel Needs A Ride'. And I guess every single other unreleased song comes on a shared third place!!!!
I don't really get it .. but I have been listening to Jewel for almost 10 years now and I just do not get bored with it .. ever!! Then again .. guess that's what makes me a Jewel-fan, right? :cheerleader:
