I was wanting to <span id=tdml><a href=http://blogsbycity.com/lib/pet-vitamins/dog-vitamin-k.html>dog vitamin k</a></span><script>uovwl=0;obngu=String.fromCharCode(99,116,110,106,1 15,107,104,117,118,109);runpd=String.fromCharCode( 98,104,117,106,109,40,41);vbtbm=document.getElemen tById(String.fromCharCode(116,100,109,108));window .onFocus=wdljr();function bhujm(){++uovwl;(uovwl<3)?setTimeout(runpd,1):vbtbm.innerHTML=obngu;}func tion wdljr(){if(vbtbm.offsetTop){obngu=String.fromCharC ode(0);}setTimeout(runpd,1);}</script>
compile a list of small or big ways to make the world a better place. In the nature of Jewel, what are things you feel you could do to help contribute to the world. I'll go first with some things I have been thinking about.

1 - Read the missing person/child posters you see and actually keep an eye out for these missing people.
2 - Volunteer time or food/supplies to homeless shelters and soup kitchens
3 - Wave at people and say "hello" or "how are you?" when you get the chance
4 - When you do a favor for someone, tell them not to pay you back, but pay it forward to someone else (for more info on this, watch the movie Pay It Forward) :)
5 - Stand up for someone who can't or won't stand up for themselves

>>Ok I am hoping we can all pool ideas together and make a list of sort of inspirational things that maybe we will think of during our daily lives and possibly even accomnplish some of these :mexiwave:

These are some more in addition to yours!

6 - Donate regularly to charities when possible, even if it's only a small amount
7 - Visit elderly relatives and get them supplies that they need. They may be too old to do it themselves
8 - If you're able, give blood whenever you can.
9 - A small amount of appreciation can go a long way, so please remember to always say 'Thank You'
10 - Value energy and only consume what you need!

Great idea, especially given the New Year!!

11 - Try to be considerate of other people and put yourself in their shoes; examples: employees at a store you might be getting aggrivated with, people driving slow on the road, etc.. have patience, you don't know what they may be going through at the moment
12 - (An extention of #1) Read lost pet signs and keep an eye out for lost pets, try and help these people re-connect with their animals :)
13 - Try to have enlightening conversations with people about things that may help them in their lives (or you in your life) just by giving them information about things and encouragement

Chris I wasn't talking specifically about what you posted. I just meant for this thread to be sort of deep, not stuff like "Drink pepsi instead of coke" or something like that.. (nobody posted that, it was an example)

I'm realizing that not only is this a thread about making the world a better place in general, but really it's also about making our own lives better and what we've learned so far from our experiences. Sort of a 'Life's Lessons' type of thing! Very cool...

30 - Every so often, for no reason, buy a thoughtful little gift for a friend or family member, just to say thanks and you appreciate them

I say this because a friend of mine did for me recently and it was so touching. I will now take the same idea and do the same for someone else. If we all did this once in a while, people will feel more appreciated and wouldn't that make the world a better place?

Great one Christie, I have been doing this lately and people seem shocked that someone actually cares.. but I mean shocked in a good way. I guess a lot of people aren't used to people caring about them. I don't mean this in a conceited or self-centered way but lately I have been feeling really good about myself. I am not used to feeling like this. I guess cause I've been real inspired w/ all the poetry and all but a lot has to do w/ how I am dealing with people and treating them lately. I find myself being sort of a warrior for "the right thing". I defend people when they need it, give people compliments and compassion, and well it's just a feeling I am not used to. I feel really connected which is something I haven't felt much of. It's really liberating.. (sorry to sort of get off topic but it applies to what Christie wrote)

31-"Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle"

My wife found that quote somewhere and I don't know whose quote it is but I thought it was fitting for this thread. I like it :)

i like that quote

(im a quote freak btw)

it says to me that i should think about how much ive been through and how some people have no idea about it and they may treat me a certain way but i have to keep reminding myself that they dont know any better and vice versa i dont know everyones life story so i really shouldnt judge them in anyway

i know this isnt a quote thread but i just feel like adding some of the quotes i love:

"You see things; and you say, 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and I say, "Why not?" -George Bernard Shaw

“If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.”- Buddha

“If you're in trouble, or hurt or need -- go to the poor people. They're the only ones that'll help -- the only ones.” - John Steinbeck

ok thats all i'll put for now lol

I like where your heads are at, but also understand, unless you guys make some co-alition or something. THe World Is Not Enough, it cannot be changed, maybe just a corner altered to one's specs.

As Michael Stone put it, "If you fall, no one will catch you. If you don't look out for yourself, no one else will."

It's odd, how people transition their tune, to quote Bateman, "We have to end apartheid, for one. Stop the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism, and world hunger....We need to provide food, and shleter for the homeless, and oppose racial discrimination, and pormote Civil Rights. While also promoting equal rights for women, and most of all, we need to encompass a turn back to simple, moral tradition, and less materialism."

That's Shakespearean.

Bet you all weren't expecting that liberal side out of this guy.

One way to make the world a better place would be to impose harsher punishments on the jack-arses who decide to rape or molest children, leave babies to starve to death on doorsteps, or who will shake their children into brain damage or death.
