Wondering what music and who everyone is into currently? I'm just curious and I am trying to start some new topics, they seem to have been slipping lately so maybe we can make a nice, long, discussion.... I won't go first, I'll let someone else start.. :acoustic:

I'm really getting into like rock well pop rock like the killers and hinder and snowpatrol. I really like their songs.

Little Bird
10-02-2006, 08:15 PM
Oh yeah, SnowPatrol are brilliant, I've loved them for years and their latest album is the best. I especially love Chasing Cars however, it is getting very over played here on the radio.

I have very eclectic taste when it comes to music. At the weekend, I was listening to loads of Enigma, my second love! and today I was listening to to some Damien Rice, Tom Petty, Bjork and Sarah McLachlan. Last week, it was Metallica, System of a Down and Alice in Chains.

I flip around with those and Alanis Morrissette and Portished and Bach and Vivaldi and all sorts more. Although I am not much into mainstream pop, most r'n'b or rap, there's not much I don't listen to.

I like Snow Patrol but Chasing Cars just doesnt really move me that much, I really love Run... I am really addicted to the Scissor Sisters right now... their new album is off the chain, I couldn't believe it could be better than the first album but I think it is. And tomorrow I know I will be addicted to the new Killers cd b/c when I wake up I am going out to buy it... hmmm who else right now.... here I'll just list a few
Raconteurs
Panic! at the Disco
Arctic Monkeys
Jet
Velvet Revolver
Justin Williams (this guy on myspace I am addicted to his music)

I was really digging Vanessa Carlton's 2nd album last year and I remember listening to it like once a night when I was at work.... it's really good.
now that I got the Killers' new cd, Sam's Town... I am addicted to it. I don't think most people are going to like it (actually I've been meaning to go read some reviews of it) but most people or most fans I don't know if they'll like it, it's actually pretty different from HOT FUSS... Hot Fuss was packed with very catchy made for radio songs and this album really isn't and it's got a different sound to it, but I still love it and I am listenng to it at least once a day, it's awesome... and I also just found this song called 'animal I have bceome" by three days grace and I am obsessed with it as well...

i like her second album [Vanessa Carlton] because of songs like "Private Radio", "C'est La Vie", "She Floats" & "Papa", but in my opinion, it isn't as consistent as her debut.

But now... She's signed to Murder INC. so I don't know what will happen..

ItBeThatWay27

She signed with them. I'm not joking. :(
She's like "Call me 'V' now. It's not my name but it's been a nikname for a long time." and it's kind of worrying me haha.

I'm getting into James Morrison and Nerina Pallot right now.

James Morrison's voice is just amazing and Nerina Pallot has a beautiful voice with really gorgeous enchanting music. Both are quite original in their own right.

It is hard to believe the amazingly strong voice that Jame Morrison has though. It is really gravelly and husky. And the songs on his albums are excellent.

I have always loved 80's music... all of it. It's funny b/c I was born in 83 so I was a kid through most of that decade, but I still get nostaglic when I hear a lot of those songs...

ItBeThatWay27
10-10-2006, 11:27 PM
You know it's weird I go through these phases sometimes like the spring of 05 I think it was, I went through this 70's music phase, I would listen to nothing but mixes of 70's stuff, like anything really... and then towards the end of the summer 05 I was in this like 1940's phase where I was into all this old big band music and stuff....(I drove my wife crazy with both of those phases, she doesnt go back any further than the 80s and even that is pushing it for her) HA! it's crazy how I switch around... I think it would be awesome if Jewel did a jazz album at some point...

I went through these phases where I would love divas from like the 60's and stuff, it was kinda wierd

Little Bird
10-11-2006, 01:14 AM
Me too. I do the same. I grew up listening to 60's and 70's music from my parents and then being hugely influenced by 40's and 50's music from my grandparents.

More for nostalgic reasons, I often go through those phases too. In terms of my own youth. I love listening to 80's music.

I have to update this thread b/c I am obsessed w/ Three Days Grace lately. Their second album "One X" is becoming one of my favorite albums to listen to lately. I can really relate to a lot of their music. I haven't heard their first album, only the song "Just Like You" which I can relate to more than you would know.... but anyways and I am also getting into She Wants Revenge. I wasn't too into their sound when I first heard them, but now I think they sound pretty cool, the lead singer has a definate 80's music kind of voice...

I like some of the songs from Sugarland's first album like the one that goes "mom and dad please send money" I forget the name of it.....

The name of the song is "Baby Girl". Their entire first album, Twice The Speed Of Life, is AMAZING. I think it's a bit better than their sophomore album. Most likely because many of their songs relate to small town life and well, that's where I came from.

I think a lot of the reasons I like country music is just that I grew up in a rural, low-populated (no, we'll call it "population-challenged"):) , farming community. I relate to that more than I do almost any other type of music. It reminds me of home. When I was little we were always listening to country music like Barbara Mandrell and Alabama. I've also realized that part of the reason I like Jewel and her music is her rags to riches life story. I can relate to growing up being so isolated with no money. I can relate to many of the more popular country singers because they came from the same type of podunk areas I'm from and they achieved HUGE success. I'm in awe of them!! I idolize them.

There. I just psychoanalyzed myself regarding my favorite music! :-)

i used to be a big fan but not so much anymore

the shins

john mayer

ItBeThatWay27
01-14-2007, 01:25 PM
wow I love the shins but I only have a few songs and I admit I didn't know who they were until I saw Garden State. I LOVE death cab :) Mainly I love PLANS. I like some of transatlantacism, but some of it I could do without and the albums before that I either havent heard or am not really into.
I am really into John Mayer right now as well. His older stuff doesn't appeal to me as much as Continuum or the TRY! Live album. I really really love the song "Belief" it's probably my favorite by him. The entire Continuum album is really extraordinary though

The Shins I just dowloaded them for their name.. To answer the question
Im digging alot of that UK POP
Girls Aloud, Amy Winehouse, Jamelia and anything u would hear on the U-pop station on XM RADIO which i need

Then of couse my usual female country I reallly love Carrie Underwood lately (the only real american idol) I hope she stays true to herself and doesn't try to pull a kelly clarkson and think she is super diva and people need to kiss her A$$

i love all his albums but Heavier things is amazing!!!
I will be seeing him in febuary

I listened to Room for Squares and it didn't too much appeal to me and then Continuum and it just floored me, I love his sound on this album. If you say Heavier things is great I will have to go see if I can get a copy and give it a listen.

well daughters is on heavier things (i still love it)
my reasons for heavier things being my fav is mostly lyrics
he is just brillant
if your are not into all different kinds of sounds and really go for the jazz sounds of continuum then you may not like heavier things because he experiments alot with sounds i think but i do REALLY love the song Wheel its one of my top 5 alltime fav songs lol

01-15-2007, 11:28 PM
"Wheel" is awesome!

ItBeThatWay27
01-16-2007, 09:25 AM
It's not that they were played on the radio a lot that I don't like them. I love No Such Thing. Daughters isn't so bad really, I could deal with that song, but YBIAW just gets under my skin, I dunno why.... I guess I just don't like the lyrics or maybe it's seeing how a bunch of preppy tools took that song and made it all trashy for their over-sexed lifestyles maybe? I dunno, it's nothing against him though.
As far as experimental sounds, I love experimental sounds from artists. I love when they try out new stuff and most people go running and I think it's cool. :) So I will give Heavier Things a listen and especially listen for Wheel. I am curious Robbie and Jessica, do you have fav tracks from Continuum? Like I said Belief is probly my fav, but I also really like Vultures, Gravity, Dreaming w/ A broken Heart... well really I just like the whole album. :)

01-16-2007, 09:39 PM
well let see im not sure if i have a favorite for continuum because i just think of the whole album as a whole
they all blend from one song to the next really well and i like that. Its a cd i can listen all the way through and not skip a song! i love those kinds of cds.
But i'd have to say my fav would prolly be In Repair or Slow Dancing...its just too hard to choose!

This is the kind of music I'm into:

JIVE music: Jazz/swing/boogie-woogie from the 40's and earlier:jazzman:

R&B from the 50's and 60's

Rock n' roll from the 50's-70's

Blues and country (for the most part the older stuff is the best but I like new country too)

old school/traditional folk, spirituals and gospel

Classic reggae (You know, REAL reggae not that dancehall garbage)

ethnic music (like traditional Celtic)

And then there's of course exceptions like Jewel and U2 who don't fit into any of those categories.

You have great taste. Death Cab and The Shins are 2 of my favorites. Dylan is great too, I am a little late getting into his music but I have an excuse, I wasn't born when he was really popular... but I just bought his Greatest Hits Vol 2 on vinyl the other day and I've been playing it out. Dylan is just great. While I give Hendrix tons of musical talent credit, I just never got into it for some reason.. but it's been some years since I've listened to his stuff and my musical taste has evolved some, so I will have to give him another listen.

Right now the album I'm listening to most is Plans. I'm just blown away by how vivid the lyrics are. For example: "I once knew a girl in the years of my youth with eyes like the summer of beauty and truth." I don't know what it is... just awesome, clever, and original lyrics. And a great voice too. Thats how I feel about the Shins as well. Do you have their new album? I haven't gotten it yet but its at the top of my list!!!

Wincing the Night Away is their best album yet! Hurry up and get it! And Plans is definately the best by Death Cab. I love every song on the album and the track "Jealousy Rides with Me" is from I believe the Japanese release of Plans, and it's an awesome track. Have you seen the Directions dvd? Some of the videos people shot for the songs are really really awesome. You can find them on youtube too, at least I found Summer Skin and Crooked Teeth which are the best videos from the dvd IMO.

Motoslam, rap isn't really my thing but I try to give credit where it's do and some rappers do have actual talent. I heard this acoustic song tupac did once and I thought it was great. But honestly as far as rappers, I can stand some of Jay-Z's stuff but that's about it really. I like Nelly but I think that's more hip-hop..

Hey, anybody into big hair bands?? I ask because Skid Row's 18 and Life just popped up on my Itunes... Skid Row, Motley Crue, Poison... they all bring me back to my youth... ahhhh sweet sweet nostalgia.

I love the Jealousy Rides w/ Me video. I have the Directions dvd. The only video I don't like is the video that girl shot for "Soul meets Body"... I just thought it was terrible. I absolutely LOVE Crooked teeth, Summer Skin, and Your Heart is an Empty Room. I will follow you into the dark (the song not the video) makes me tear up almost every time I hear it.

I was just thinking how I wish more bands would do what Death Cab did w/ Directions and hire aspiring video directors and such to shoot videos for their albums... Wouldn't it be awesome if Jewel did that? I would LOVE to make a video for a Jewel song.

Oh! I didnt know you had it, just thought you watched them on youtube!
Lets see.... my fav video would prolly be...well i cant decide! its too hard...but the ones I dont like are Soul Meets Body, and Brothers on a hotel bed (i thought a better concept could have been done with that) all the rest are pretty a pretty interesting take on the songs. DCFC had nothing to do with the videos so it was all the way the directors visualised the songs themselves..

Jewel should do something like that and let it be a contest or something so people could send in their videos and she could pick!

Ok I also don't like the Different Names for the Same thing video. I guess the idea was ok, but I just don't like the way that little girl is lip-syncing to it.... it looks bad.
Jess you said Death Cab had nothing to do with it, but did they not give the directors instructions? Or at least an outline of what they expected?

they are awesome, it's hard to pin-point the genre of the postal service.. but they use a lot of I guess you would say synth type sounds, like pacman sounds or something haha but I mean the lyrics are very much like Death Cab's, there's only one cd, but it's awesome.

I dont really care for the postal service. i havent heard too many songs but i love the cover Iron & Wine did of their song "Such Great Heights" cos it was whack before...the techno sound didnt fit the lyrics like the new music does..

My hubby LOVES Slayer! Some of those I haven't heard before.

I'm kinda weird when it comes to music. I find someone I like, then I listen them to death until I find the next best thing. I don't listen to like 10 bands at any given time. I guess I feel like I need to really dive in and get the meanings of the songs. I have a 6 CD-changer in my car, and that's about as varied as I get. I just recently changed it all out. I've got these in:

Tim McGraw - Let It Go
Martina McBride - Wake Up Laughing
Sugarland - Enjoy The Ride
Jewel - mix CD, with rare live recordings
Taylor Swift - Taylor Swift
Carrie Underwood

Gee, think I like country???????

GAELIC STORM! They're an awesome blend of rock n' roll and traditional Irish folk. I'm on a Celtic trip lately. I mean I've liked Irish music for a long time but I've been especially into it since I went to Irishfest (which is on the Summerfest Grounds by Lake Michigan). I loved it and I've been pursuing music from every band I saw there like Gaelic Storm, Gan Bua and Enter The Haggis.

lol OMG that must have been painful. I question kid's tastes- do they listen to this stuff because they truly like the music or because the media tells them they're supposed to listen to it? When I was 13-16 I had the worst taste in music and would consume hip-hop and top 40 like I didn't have any other options. Then when I was 17, I woke up and realized rap is degrading crap that has no soul. Then I pursued a bigger variety of music, particularily 30s-70s music of different genres that I like because it's good music, not because I felt the need to get it because of the media hype surrounding it.

Right now I'm listening to the Faith Hill Greatest Hits album that came out Oct.2. There's an amazing live version of 'Stronger' that I keep listening to over and over! The song was never even released from the CRY album in '02, but became a fan favorite performed live. Faith said she got a huge response from the song during the Soul 2 Soul tours (5+ minute standing ovations at every concert stop!), so she decided to put it on the album. I'm glad she did.

I'm also listening to Sara Evans' Greatest Hits too. It came out this month too. There are 4 new songs on it! I'm listening to them a lot. I esp. like the song 'Pray For You', she wrote it about going back home to mama when things in your life are rough. She was indirectly referring to the nasty, public divorce she's been going through.

Reba McIntyre's 'Duets' album is phenomenal as well!!! What might surprise people is that she has artists from different genres sing with her, like Justin Timberlake and Kelly Clarkson. It's an amazing album! Reba sure outdid herself on this one!
